UK to invest 163 million euros in Eutelsat, Bharti Space ups stake
The British government will invest 90.1 million Euros through an RCI and a rights issue (RI) of 73.2 million Euros, through the office of the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation, and Technology of the United Kingdom. 'As our adversaries increasingly use space technologies to harm us, resilient satellite connectivity has become essential to our continent's national security. This investment reflects our commitment to support the development of these critical technologies and maintain an important stake in the global satellite communications sector,' said Peter Kyle, Secretary of State for Science, Innovation, and Technology.
The entry of another key reference shareholder comes weeks after the French government had announced a similar investment of 551 million Euros in the RCI and subscribed to a rights issue of 199.3 million Euros. The Agence des Participations de l'État (APE), or State Participations Agency, responsible for managing the French state's shareholdings in companies of strategic importance, will now have a total investment of 750 million Euros.
In 2023, Bharti Enterprises-backed satellite communications company OneWeb merged with Eutelsat to become the second-largest satellite operator globally, with 669 satellites in orbit. The total RCI would amount to 828 million Euros, and a subsequent RI would amount to 672 million Euros.
Eutelsat's capital raise is part of a plan to refinance debt and expand its upcoming constellation of satellites. Apart from moving forward with a dedicated debt refinancing plan, this capital increase will reinforce the company's financial flexibility by accelerating its deleveraging and supporting investment in its existing Low Earth Orbit (LEO) capabilities and the future IRIS² constellation.
'Today, governments require secure and reliable sovereign connectivity solutions, and Eutelsat is uniquely positioned to meet this need. I echo President Macron's words at the Paris Air Show last month, where he urged France's major strategic partners in the Gulf, India, Canada, and Brazil to join the coalition backing Eutelsat Group as the global Space Champion,' said Sunil Bharti Mittal, Co-Chairman of Eutelsat Group.
Both the RCI and the RI are expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Following the two transactions, and subject to participation from investors, the French State would hold a stake of 29.65 per cent of the capital and voting rights, while Bharti Space Limited and the UK government would hold 17.88 per cent and 10.89 per cent, respectively. Shipping giant CMA CGM, and Le Fonds Stratégique de Participations (FSP), an investment fund owned by seven France-based insurance firms, would hold 7.46 per cent and 4.99 per cent of the share capital and voting rights. The rules of the agreement state that investors will not be in a position to launch a public takeover.

Russia has 'special mechanisms' to supply oil to India
Russia will continue supplying oil to India and the country's President Vladimir Putin will meet India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi by the end of year, a Russian embassy official in India said on Wednesday. Russia has a "very, very special mechanism" to continue oil supplies to India, Roman Babushkin, the charge d'affaires at the Russian embassy in India, told reporters at a press briefing, adding that India's crude oil imports from Russia will remain at the same level. No dates had been finalised for the Putin-Modi meeting yet, he said. The U.S. is set to impose an additional 25% tariff on Indian exports on August 28, citing their imports of Russian oil, which expanded after Western nations sanction Russian supply after its invasion of Ukraine. However, the U.S. has stopped short of imposing similar tariffs on China over its purchases of Russian oil. Last month, the European Union sanctioned Russian-backed Indian refinery Nayara Energy, leading the refiner to cut back processing and companies to curtail their trading with them. Trade between Indian and Russia was expected to grow 10% annually, Evgeniy Griva, Deputy Trade Representative of Russia to India said at the briefing.

UK businessman Sukhpal Ahluwalia buys Rs 100 cr flat in DLF Camellias
British businessman Sukhpal Ahluwalia has purchased an 11,416 sq ft apartment at DLF's luxury project The Camellias in Gurugram for Rs 100 crore, underscoring demand for high-end homes Sanket Koul New Delhi British businessman Sukhpal Ahluwalia has bought an 11,416 sq ft apartment at DLF's ultra-luxury project, The Camellias, in Gurugram for Rs 100 crore, people aware of the matter said. Ahluwalia, who sold his company Euro Car Parts, currently runs London-based real estate, hospitality and asset management company Dominvs Group. 'I was initially thinking of buying a farmhouse but later decided to buy in a gated condominium as we often come to India. We have a house in Kautilya Marg also but will prefer to stay in Gurugram,' Ahluwalia said, confirming the transaction. This transaction marks the third Rs 100-crore deal at the residential complex, which is home to several wealthy individuals. It also highlights sustained post-pandemic demand for luxury homes in India. Earlier, Info-X Software Technology's director Rishi Parti bought a 16,000 sq ft penthouse at The Camellias for Rs 190 crore in one of the country's costliest apartment transactions. Similarly, in October 2023, Smiti Agarwal, a director at Wesbok Lifestyle, purchased an apartment in the project in another Rs 100-crore deal. The deal comes at a time when DLF has been witnessing strong traction among non-resident Indians (NRIs) and high net-worth individuals (HNIs) for its luxury housing projects. Recently, the NCR-based realty major announced securing sales worth Rs 11,000 crore in its Privana North luxury project in Gurugram. 'About 25 per cent of the purchases have come from NRIs and overseas buyers from Canada, Australia and Jakarta,' Aaksh Ohri, joint managing director and chief business officer, DLF Homes, told Business Standard in June this year. Real estate experts say that post-Covid, ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNIs) increasingly prefer gated condominiums over standalone bungalows, as these provide access to a wide range of facilities within the premises. A recent report by CBRE and Assocham noted that sales of luxury houses priced at Rs 4 crore and above rose 85 per cent year-on-year to over 7,000 units in the top seven cities during the first half of 2025 (H1 2025). Of this, Delhi NCR accounted for around 57 per cent of total sales. 'This rise was fuelled by demand from HNIs and NRIs seeking asset stability in times of global uncertainty,' the report stated. People familiar with the matter added that The Camellias, located on Gurugram's Golf Course Road, is currently trading at Rs 87,800 per sq ft and leasing at Rs 12 lakh to Rs 16 lakh per month, as of April 2025. Most buyers at The Camellias are from Delhi NCR, with prominent homeowners including BoAt founder Aman Gupta, Aakash Educational Services founder JC Chaudhry and real estate firm Elan Group. Several startup founders have also reportedly purchased apartments in the same complex.

All Lavasa suitors raise offers in third round; Valor Estates leads
Mumbai: All three bidders have increased their financial offers for the debt-laden Lavasa Corp in the third round of bidding, intensifying competition for what was initially billed as the first hill town to be built in Independent India. Valor Estates has substantially upped its bid to ₹946 crore on a net present value (NPV) basis, putting it ahead of the other two bidders. The Welspun-Ashdan combine has increased also its bid to ₹845 crore from ₹776 crore on a NPV basis earlier which has put the Mumbai based Yogayatan Group at number three on a NPV basis with a total NPV of ₹830 crore, people familiar with the development said. Meanwhile, based on the evaluation matrix, Welspun consortium has scored higher than both the other bidders. "All three bidders substantially increased their bids after they were given another chance. By the looks of it this battle will now continue because bankers will have to thoroughly go through the bids," said a person familiar with the details. Creditors to the debt-laden Lavasa Corp had extended the timeline for the resolution process, giving bidders another chance to increase their bids for the real estate venture, ET had reported in its August 7 edition. The extension was forced after one of the bidders, Valor Estates, submitted an improved revised plan. Live Events Last week, Mumbai based Yogayatan Group filed a petition in the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) opposing creditors' move to allow revised resolution plans for taking over the debt-laden Lavasa Corp. Yogayatan was opposed to calling for another round of bids because it had emerged as the highest bidder, with its offer of ₹795 crore on a NPV basis. "This time, despite its opposition, Yogayatan submitted a revised bid. It remains to be seen whether it acts on its NCLT plea or prefers to improve its bid further because it does not look like we have seen the last of this story," said another person aware of the details. Any litigation at this stage is likely to delay the process. EY-backed resolution professional Udayraj Patwardhan and process advisor BoB Capital Markets did not reply to an email seeking comment.
