Urgent appeal issued to EuroMillions players after punter bags life-changing sum
Irish EuroMillions players are being urged to check their tickets this morning after one lucky punter landed a life-changing six-figure prize in Tuesday night's draw.
In total over 59,000 players in Ireland won prizes in last night's EuroMillions and Plus games, including one lucky punter who won a whopping €255,000 after claiming Ireland's eighth EuroMillions Ireland Only Raffle top prize.
The Drogheda player was one of 10 winners of the Ireland-Only Raffle in Tuesday's draw. And while that prize is usually worth €5,000, the National Lottery has added an additional prize of €250,000 for one winner of the Ireland-Only Raffle for all nine EuroMillions draws during the month of May.
The National Lottery has confirmed that the winning Quick Pick ticket was purchased on the day of the draw from Applegreen on Newfoundwell Road in Greenbatter, Drogheda, Co. Louth. The all-important winning raffle number is I-SDL-14299.
Lotto bosses are urging all players in the Drogheda area to check their tickets carefully and if you're holding the winning ticket, be sure to contact the National Lottery prize claims team on 1800 666 222 or email claims@lottery.ie to arrange the collection of your prize.
Emma Monaghan, National Lottery spokesperson, said: 'While there was no winner of last night's EuroMillions jackpot worth €198,011,279, over 59,000 players in Ireland won prizes in the EuroMillions and EuroMillions plus games.
"This includes one Raffle Ticket winner: I-SDL-14299 from Drogheda, Co. Louth, who's just scooped a life-enhancing €255,000 in our EuroMillions 'Ireland Only Raffle' special draw."
Throughout May, EuroMillions players in Ireland have the chance to win an additional €250,000. This series of special EuroMillions Ireland Only Raffles guarantees players a top up in the prize fund for all nine draws, every Tuesday and Friday, throughout the month.
Typically, every EuroMillions draw produces ten winners of the €5,000 Ireland-Only Raffle prize. But this month, one winner in each draw is in line to win a dazzling €250,000 on top of the usual €5,000 Raffle prize.
With past winners from Dublin (4), Meath, Limerick, Wicklow, and now Louth, excitement is building head of the final special draw on Friday which will see one more player land the mega €250,000 prize.

Irish inflation remains steady in May at 1.4%
Irish inflation remained steady in May and was unchanged compared to the previous month. New figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) on Friday found that the EU Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) rose by 1.4% in the 12 months to May 2025. This compares with an inflation figure of 2% in the 12 months to April and an annual increase of 2.2% in the HICP for the Eurozone in the same period. Looking at the components of the flash HICP for Ireland in May 2025, energy prices are estimated to have fallen by 1.3% in the month and decreased by 2.6% over the 12 months to May 2025. Meanwhile, food prices are estimated to have increased by 1% in the last month and by 4.1% in the previous 12 months. The HICP excluding energy and unprocessed food is estimated to have risen by 1.8% since May 2024. The consumer price index (CPI) is the official measure of inflation in Ireland, while the HICP is an index of consumer prices that has been harmonised to allow for comparisons across euro area countries. While the CPI includes mortgage rates in its basket of goods, the HICP does not. Eurostat will publish flash estimates of inflation from the EU HICP for the Eurozone for May 2025 on 03 June 2025. It comes as economists warn the ECB to avoid delays in its easing of monetary policy. The bank will lower interest rates twice more, according to a Bloomberg survey, but respondents warned it shouldn't wait too long between those moves or investors will conclude that its easing campaign is already over. Respondents predict quarter-point reductions on June 5 and at September's meeting, when new quarterly forecasts should shed more light on the effects of US President Donald Trump's reordering of global trade. That would bring the deposit rate to 1.75%, where the poll sees it settling through the end of 2026.

20pc increase in power cuts in Wicklow with defective equipment and bird strikes causing some of the outages
Figures provided to MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú show significant year on year increases in power cuts across Ireland between 2021 and 2024, with ESB's Arklow region power supply showing 1,725 power cuts in the wider Wicklow area in 2024, up from 1,433 in 2023 and 1,256 in 2021. There were 64,754 power cuts across Ireland in 2024, both planned and unplanned outages, representing a 22pc increase on 2023, where we had 53,067 power cuts. Between 2021 and 2024, we have seen a 40pc increase in the number of power cuts, both planned and unplanned, across Ireland. ESB Networks also provided MEP Ní Mhurchú with a breakdown of the reasons for the power cuts which included bird strikes, weather issues, lightening, overhead refurbishment, overloading, and corrosion. Of more concern was the large increase in power cuts which were attributed to 'defective equipment'. Raising significant concerns about ESB Networks performance in relation to power cuts faced by domestic and business customers across Ireland, MEP Ní Mhurchú has called on ESB Networks to clarify why there is a 22pc jump, for a new system of compensation for householders and small businesses for outages lasting more than 12 hours and said that customers should not be charged for standing charges and levies when the power it out. 'The CRU, our regulator, has raised significant concerns about ESBN's performance in relation to unplanned outages and customer interruptions fining the utility millions for missing clearly set down targets,' Ní Mhurchú said. 'The ESB is a profitable company that should be prioritising increased investment in our electricity grid. 'My worry is that ESB Networks may be trying to cut costs by not investing in our electricity infrastructure to the extent that they should be. Power cuts have an enormous impact on families, in particular as many homes are now passive homes that depend on heat pumps and don't have open fires or stoves. 'Customers deserve an explanation as to why they are facing more power cuts when they are paying the second highest electricity prices in Europe.
