Sneaky trick to find buried treasure in Bedrock that Minecraft doesn't tell you

Daily Mirrora day ago
When it comes to finding buried treasure in Minecraft, one game player and forum fan has a key piece of advice for Bedrock players - read on for the full lowdown
Minecraft is a simple, block-based world that offers never-ending play. A staggering 204 million people reportedly play the addictive game every month, with obsessed youngsters and grown-ups alike gaining skills in problem-solving, creativity even team work.

Minecraft 's virtual landscape sees people dig holes to collect blocks from which they can create anything from a simple hut to a complex city. And while the game, which is available on every mobile device and video game console, is easy to pick up, it's full of secrets.

Thankfully, there are loads of handy tips and tricks online to help gamers in their individual quests. One Redditor posted a PSA or Public Service Announcement for Bedrock players, meaning those who have a multi-platform version of Minecraft rather than the original Java Edition, who are struggling to find buried treasure...

"As you may have heard from Java players or the Wiki, buried treasure always spawns at 'chunk coordinate 9 on both the X and Z axes'," the forum user explained. "For those of us who play Bedrock and therefore don't have access to all that handy debug info, that basically means an odd multiple of 8 (chunks are 16 blocks wide, and chunk coordinates start at 1 instead of 0).
"Stated in mathematical language, {X,Z} mod 16 = {8,8}. You can calculate this easily in a web browser by typing X % 16 or Z % 16, where % is the modulo operator; e.g. 152 % 16 = 8, -56 % 16 = 8, etc."

The helpful Redditor explained it was also possible for the chest to spawn underneath stone-type blocks, urging Bedrock players to trust the coordinates. "Go to the X on the map, do the modulo math, and dig straight down, and you'll find the chest every time," they said.
And the Minecraft advice-giver had one final note for people looking to enhance their game. "ALWAYS BREAK THE CHEST," they said. "Bedrock tends to have issues with multiple maps pointing to the same chest, even if there's another one closer to where the map was found."

Earlier this year, with the help of thegamer.com, the Mirror revealed 18 secrets Minecraft doesn't tell you. They included:
Llamas can be handy to have around if you find you keep running out of inventory space. If you click on a llama while holding a chest, that chest becomes the animal's inventory space.
When you break a block, the breaking pattern always appears on its north side. This can come in handy if you need to quickly orientate yourself.
In earlier versions of Minecraft, diamonds were most likely to appear between five and 12 levels down. Now, they appear between 15 and 63 levels down - and the deeper you dig, the more likely you are to find them.

Naga Munchetty 'looking for new job and set to quit' BBC Breakfast after bullying row

BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty is reportedly in talks to join another station amid the programme's bullying row BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty has reportedly 'renewed talks' with a radio station away from the corporation amid a bullying row that has plagued the morning programme. Last month, it was revealed show boss Richard Frediani was on extended leave on the flagship show after complaints about his behaviour. ‌ Host Munchetty was also said to not get on with him. However, many staff members came out in defence of the editor. One even told the Mirror that some staff were disappointed with Munchetty who it's claimed raised concerns about Frediani's management style with BBC managers. ‌ And now, a source has claimed that the presenter 'loves the BBC' but is looking for a new job. ‌ Speaking to The Sun, they said: "Her team last week renewed talks with LBC. The Global Radio station would suit her as there's far less of the fluffy nonsense that's involved in working at the BBC.' The Mirror have reached out to Munchetty's reps for comment. Meanwhile, the BBC's annual salary was recently published and Munchetty was revealed to be earning almost double her co-host Charlie Stayt's pay. ‌ Stayt and Munchetty present BBC Breakfast from Thursday to Saturday morning, while Jon Kay and Sally Nugent take the helm from Monday to Wednesday. Stayt, aged 63, has stayed within the £190,000 salary band, whereas Munchetty, aged 50, has enjoyed a £10,000 increase to her earnings, moving from £345,000 to £355,000. ‌ Munchetty, who has presented on the flagship news programme since 2014, has always been paid more than Stayt. Her pay packet accounts for 180 days of presenting on BBC Breakfast, as well as her Radio 5 Live programme and election coverage. The BBC pay comes amid a bullying row concerning the BBC Breakfast editor. Some current and former staff of the programme jumped to his defence. One source told the Mirror: 'He is not a bully at all and the truth will come out. He's a great boss and was - and is still - overwhelmingly loved by the team, who respect his drive, expertise, and journalistic ambition. He has delivered great audiences and the first ever Bafta for breakfast TV. ‌ 'He can be brash and opinionated but works so hard for his team and allows people to flourish.' A second source said: 'Yes, he is old-school and can rub people up the wrong way but it's always in the pursuit of great television. It's the best-rating breakfast show in the country - it's not supposed to be a walk in the park. Some - Naga included - need to understand this. It feels like it's a case of presenter power turfing out a brilliant journalist.' Co-host Stayt is also said to have a strained relationship with Frediani.

John Torode to take legal action against BBC after MasterChef dismissal over alleged racist comment

John Torode is apparently preparing to sue the BBC after he was sacked from MasterChef over a racism allegation. John Torode is apparently gearing up to pursue legal proceedings against the BBC following his dismissal from MasterChef. The chef was axed from the cookery programme after accusations of using "an extremely offensive racist term" were substantiated. ‌ Torode claimed he had "no recollection" of the incident - and revealed in a public statement that he'd only discovered his contract had been terminated when the BBC and production company Banijay released the announcement. Sources close to the television personality now reveal he's consulting employment solicitors as he battles to "clear his name". ‌ "John is gearing up to file the legal challenge against the BBC," an insider reveals. "He wants to pursue them for wrongful dismissal. He's telling associates there's no evidence of his alleged remark. ‌ "It wasn't during working hours, it was merely gossip. John is determined to restore his reputation." The 59-year-old Torode departed the BBC alongside his MasterChef presenting partner Gregg Wallace amid claims of racist language. The Australian television personality maintains he was unaware of the "offensive" remark he stands accused of making, despite solicitors Lewis Silkin supporting the complaint - reportedly dating back to 2018 - in their independent inquiry into the programme, reports the Mirror. This followed the firm supporting 45 out of 83 allegations against Wallace, 60, including "unwanted physical contact", "being in a state of undress", harassment and inappropriate humour. Torode himself acknowledged he faced an accusation, stating: "I do not believe that it happened." ‌ The source indicated the decision caught the Corporation off guard. "John is a tough talking Aussie and does not stand to ceremony. The BBC were not expecting John Torode to jump the gun about the comment and make a statement." MasterChef's production company Banijay UK confirmed that after discussions with Torode and the BBC, they "are agreed that we will not renew his contract on MasterChef". ‌ However, in a statement released on Tuesday night, Torode remarked: "Although I haven't heard from anyone at the BBC or Banijay, I am seeing and reading I've been 'sacked' from MasterChef. "I repeat that I have no recollection of what I'm accused of. The enquiry could not even state the date or year of when I am meant to have said something wrong." He announced that Celebrity MasterChef, which he recently filmed with food critic Grace Dent, along with two Christmas specials, would be his final appearances. ‌ "Personally, I have loved every minute working on MasterChef, but it's time to pass the cutlery to someone else." BBC Director General Davie, speaking to BBC News on Tuesday afternoon, described the allegation against Torode as involving "a serious racist term which does not get to be acceptable in any way shape or form. It's really important we are taking this seriously," he added. "We've drawn a line in the sand." ‌ The Mirror has learned that ITV is poised to back John Torode and throw his television career a lifeline. Insiders at the broadcaster have indicated that there are "no current changes to scheduling" for the upcoming weekend, ensuring that the third instalment of 'John and Lisa's Weekend Kitchen' will air as planned at 11.40am on Saturday. The show, which Torode co-hosts with his wife Lisa Faulkner, celebrates its 10th anniversary series. An ITV insider remarked: "I think we will keep going with the show. We don't know the details of the BBC issue and have never had any trouble with him ourselves. We obviously have our own complaints handling procedure and a code of conduct for talent at ITV. There have been no issues raised with John so the series is set to continue to air." Another source commented on the situation's impact on Lisa, noting she is "conscious of their ITV show and doesn't want to jeopardise that." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
