Bizman arrested for Rs34cr GST Scam
Nagpur: The investigation branch of the Maharashtra State GST Department in Nagpur arrested one Mahesh Keshwani, proprietor of M/s K&K Brothers, for allegedly availing and passing fraudulent Input Tax Credit (ITC) worth Rs33.93 crore. The firm, registered under the MGST Act 2017, was found claiming ITC without actual procurement or movement of goods, sourcing credits from registration-cancelled suppliers. A recent investigation at the firm's Jaripatka office uncovered incriminating evidence, including system reports, indicating involvement in a larger network issuing fake invoices to facilitate tax evasion. Following his arrest, Keshwani was remanded to judicial custody until August 14 by the magistrate. The operation, part of a special drive against fake invoicing, was led by assistant commissioner Ramesh Dalvi under the guidance of senior officials, including additional commissioner Tejrao Pacharne. Tariff resilience: India's domestic demand shields economy from tariff shocks, says BoB chief economist
India's limited dependence on exports and strong domestic demand will help it weather the impact of recently imposed US tariffs, said Madan Sabnavis, Chief Economist at Bank of Baroda . Speaking at a webinar, Sabnavis argued that India's non-export-oriented growth model provides resilience amid rising global protectionism. 'Since we are not an export-oriented economy, it is becoming advantageous for us because we are more dependent on domestic consumption,' he said, quoted ANI. The comments come days after US President Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff on Indian goods along with an unspecified penalty, despite earlier expectations of a bilateral trade deal. The move is part of Trump's broader tariff push under his April 2, 2025 executive order, which imposes reciprocal tariffs ranging from 10% to 50% across trade partners. Bank of Baroda has projected GDP growth of 6.4% to 6.6% for FY26, a forecast that already factors in potential export disruptions. According to BoB estimates, a 10% drop in exports would shave about 0.2 percentage points off GDP. India's exports account for 21% of GDP, with services contributing nearly half of that — a composition that makes the country less vulnerable to goods tariffs. 'India's significant reliance on service exports cushions the economy in this volatile tariff environment,' Sabnavis added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brain tumor has left my son feeling miserable, please help! While about 10% of the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) basket could see imported inflation, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) is not expected to rise in the near term. Trade data presented during the webinar showed that India's export exposure to the US is relatively high at 19.8%, while imports from the US account for just 6.3%. Sectors such as electronics, marine products, readymade garments, gems and jewellery, chemicals and poultry are among the most vulnerable. BoB analysts noted that clarity is awaited on potential exemptions, which could mitigate some of the impact. 'Some industries may face higher input costs, which could impact profit margins,' the bank said in its presentation. Mahindra acquires controlling stake in SML Isuzu, rebrands it as SML Mahindra
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has officially completed the acquisition of a 58.96 per cent controlling stake in SML Isuzu Ltd. from Sumitomo Corporation and Isuzu Motors, marking a significant move to strengthen its presence in the commercial vehicle (CV) segment. Following this acquisition, M&M will initiate a mandatory open offer to acquire up to 26 per cent from public shareholders, as per SEBI regulations. The deal was struck at ₹650 per share, with M&M investing ₹555 crore in total. Consequent to the deal, SML Isuzu's Board has been reconstituted. Vinod Sahay, President – Aerospace & Defence, Trucks, Buses & Construction Equipment at Mahindra Group , has been appointed Executive Chairman of SML Isuzu. Dr. Venkat Srinivas has taken over as Executive Director and CEO of the company, effective August 1, 2025. Rebranding and future plans The Board has also approved a proposal to rename the company to SML Mahindra Limited , pending regulatory approvals. M&M aims to more than double its market share in the medium and heavy CV segment—from the current 3 per cent to 6 per cent post-acquisition, and further to 10-12 per cent by FY31 and over 20 per cent by FY36. This aligns with its strategy to complement its strong 54.2 per cent share in the sub-3.5T LCV market. SML Isuzu, established in 1983, holds a strong position in the intermediate and light commercial vehicle (ILCV) bus market, commanding around 16 per cent share. The partnership with Mahindra is expected to unlock new synergies, leveraging Mahindra's scale and SML's strong dealer network and legacy. The leadership team brings deep expertise to steer the company through this transition. Sahay, a veteran of the Mahindra Group and formerly with Tata Motors, has held multiple leadership roles in commercial vehicles and defence. Dr. Srinivas, a seasoned R&D leader, has been instrumental in developing Mahindra's key CV platforms like Blazo, Furio, and Zeo EV.
