Hindus were targeted: Pawan Kalyan
Visakhapatnam: It is very clear that the Hindus are being targeted as Kashmiri Pandits and there is a need to take stringent action against the heinous attack that occurred at Pahalgam, emphasised Deputy Chief Minister Paway Kalyan.
After paying tributes to the mortal remains of JS Chandra Mouli, who died in the horrific terror attack, in Visakhapatnam on Thursday, Pawan Kalyan expressed deep sadness over the incident. 'The issue has been brewing in Kashmir for long. Back then, we did several film shootings in the picturesque region. Those were challenging times. Kashmir Pandits used to confess that it was difficult to be a Hindu in Kashmir,' the Deputy CM recalled.
Both the family members of S Madhusudhan from Kavali and Chandra Mouli from Visakhapatnam stated that the attackers asked the men whether they were Muslims or not before attacking them, the Deputy CM shared.
About the tourists, Pawan Kalyan said, those who went for a vacation were pushed to a helpless situation. 'The killings unfolded before the children's eyes. It was an extremely disturbing incident to listen to the family members of the terror victims. There is a need to put an end to the terrorism,' Pawan Kalyan underlined.
Calling for a united battle against terror attack, the Deputy Chief Minister said that it was very clear that the Hindus were targeted in the Pahalgam attack. The terror attack was so horrific that some lost part of their skull, he said, underlining that the onus to fight terrorism rests on all the citizens of the nation. 'For certain, the terrorists who did the heinous crime would be traced by the Centre and punishment would be accorded to them.
Apparently, it is a targeted Hindu killing and there is nothing to sugar-coat it. Earlier, the killings were against Kashmiri Pandits and now it is against the Hindus,' Pawan Kalyan expressed concern.
Any anti-national statements, or any hurtful comments made against the country's integrity and sovereignty needs to be treated seriously on social media platforms, the Deputy CM said and instructed the Home Minister V. Anitha to keep a tight cap on it. 'The Centre will take all the measures to ensure such heinous attacks do not repeat in future. Accompanied by Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha and District in-charge Minister Dola Sree Bala Veeranjineya Swamy, Visakhapatnam MP M Sribharat, MLA Vamsi Krishna Srinivas Yadav, the Deputy CM empathised with the bereaved family members of Mouli, a retired bank employee, and consoled them at their residence located at Pandurangapuram.

Phina Singh irrigation project gets ₹55.5 crore from Centre
The long-awaited Phina Singh irrigation project in Kangra district has received a sanction of Rs. 55.51 crore from the Central Government under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP) of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) for States annual plan 2025-26. The project has been stalled for over a decade and the state government in several rounds of talks and deliberations with the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, has taken up this matter since the work on the project was being affected due to insufficient funding. The Phina Singh project in Nurpur in Kangra district was started at an initial cost of ₹204 crore in 2011, which has now escalated to ₹646 crore. The project aims to interlink Kalam Nallah and Chaki River — two tributaries of the Beas river flowing through Nurpur. It also involves constructing a concrete gravity dam across the Chaki river. Water from the dam is to be transported through a 4,307-m tunnel to irrigate 4,025 hectares across 60 villages in Nurpur. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, said, 'I personally also advocated for the release of funds so that the project could be completed well in time and also took up several other key issues related to this project before the Centre. This project had been stalled for over a decade, but it has now emerged as a ray of hope for the farmers. Upon completion, the scheme will provide irrigation facilities to thousands of hectares of land, significantly boosting agricultural productivity.' In 2023, Himachal deputy CM had sought assistance from the Centre for the completion of the project. After repeated appeals by the state government, the project was finally included under PMKSY in July 2024, paving the way for financial assistance. The Central Government will cover 50% of the total construction cost. The work of the project was started in 2011 and still is under active construction, more than 50% physical progress of minor works has been achieved so far. An expenditure of around ₹300 crore has been incurred by the state government. The cost of the project has been escalated due to enhancement in labour and material rates and modification from Medium Irrigation to Multipurpose project with power generation and road connectivity in addition to the irrigation components.

Assam govt orders shoot-on-sight order to quell communal tension in Dhubri
1 2 Guwahati: Faced with communal tension in border town Dhubri and provocative posters on integration of Dhubri district with Bangladesh appearing, the Assam govt on Friday issued shoot-at- sight orders. The govt is also rushing in Rapid Action Force (RAF) and CRPF personnel in the district after mob clashes ensued over objectionable objects being found near a place of worship. Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who visited the district on Friday said that at least three posters were retrieved by police at Dhubri which were pasted at various locations by one organization "Nabin Bangla." "Since last one week the law and order at Dhubri has been challenging. A communal group is trying to create disturbances which the government will not tolerate," Sarma said. Sarma later posted on X, "I visited Dhubri and directed law enforcement officers to follow zero tolerance against elements who desecrate….." places of worship. "In Dhubri, a particular group has become active with the intent to damage our temples. We have issued SHOOT AT SIGHT ORDERS," Himanta wrote. A day after Bakrid on June 7, an animal part was found in front of a place of worship, following which both Hindus and Muslims appealed for peace and harmony. The next day again the incident was repeated, and stones were thrown at night, Sarma added. Sarma said that for Bakrid, thousands of cattle were brought from West Bengal by a 'new beef mafia' in Dhubri. "I have ordered an inquiry into this. I have directed the authorities to arrest who has started this cattle trade,' Sarma said. He said that next year, he will be present at Dhubri on the day of Eid and stay the next day as well. "We are fully committed to ensure enforcement of law and order in the district and defeat all communal forces," he added. Dhubri district has the highest Muslim population in the entire state constituting 90 percent of the district's total population, majority of whom are believed to be of Bangladeshi origin.
