TMBU under fire over fake Admit cards; Controller of examination served show cause, assistant suspended
Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU) in Bihar is under fire after a number of students lodged complaints with the University alleging the staff in the examination department extorted money from them for issuing admit cards and mark sheets which later turned out to be fake.
Taking strong note of the incident, the vice chancellor (VC) Prof Jawahar Lal has constituted a team to probe the allegations. The controller of examination (CE) Prof Krishna Kumar has been served show cause.
'On the basis of preliminary investigation, the assistant Sanjay Kumar has been suspended and three clerical staff Mohammad Taslim, Shashi Kumar and Manik Chand have been transferred,' public relation officer (PRO) of VC, Prof Deepak Kumar Dinkar told HT over phone on Friday. He said, '17 mobile phones of all the staff under suspicion have been seized for further investigation and strict legal action will be taken against all those involved in it.'
He said, 'The controller of examination Prof Krishna Kumar has been served show cause notice today (Friday) and he has been asked to submit his explanation within 24 hours.' He said that one contractual staff Avineet Kumar has been stopped from visiting the examination department till investigation concludes.
Notably a number of students of the TMBU were debarred from appearing at the ongoing examination of the final year of graduation (Old course) after their admit cards were found to be fake. Later these students approached the CE and lodged complaints alleging that they had paid ₹3000 to 8000 to Sanjay Kumar for the admit cards.
Even one student who appeared with his mark sheet accused the same staff of demanding ₹8000 from him for issuing a mark sheet with increased marks. 'When I asked for CLC (College leaving certificate) much to my chagrin, they declared my mark sheet fake,' Manish Kumar of Marwari College said, prompting him to reach the staff. 'But I found the staff absent and his phone was found switched off,' he told HT.
As many as 30 students were debarred from appearing at the examination as their admit cards were found to be fake.
Reliable sources within university told HT, 'Corruption in the examination department is not new, this has been going on for a long time, however, fortunately or unfortunately the matter has come into light now.'

19 Brahmos, Crystal Maze missiles: Details of how India brought Pak to its knees during Operation Sindoor
Even as national security planners and military chiefs celebrated one month of Operation Sindoor on Saturday evening, HT has learned that the Defence Ministry has given the green signal to the three services to replenish their inventory with longer-range loitering ammunition, artillery shells, kamikaze drones, and beyond-visual-range air-to-air missiles that out-range the Chinese missiles used by Pakistan during the four-day high-intensity skirmish. According to people familiar with the matter - and based on action taken reports and damage assessments undertaken by the three services - there is digital evidence to conclude that the Indian Air Force (IAF) fighters, surface-to-air missile batteries, and S-400 air defence system downed four Pakistani Chinese-made fighter jets and two large aircraft (possibly one C-130J and one SAAB 2000 airborne early warning system) during Operation Sindoor. There are also indications, the sources added, that two F-16 fighter aircraft may have been partly damaged during the IAF's missile assault on 11 airbases, including those at Sargodha, Rafiqui, Jacobabad, and Nur Khan (Chaklala, Rawalpindi). The reports indicate that India's Rafale fighters, S-400 missile systems, and M777 howitzers acquitted themselves well during the four-day conflict, with the Russian air defence system taking down three enemy aircraft. They also show that India destroyed one Chinese LY-80 fire radar, two AN/TPQ-43 US-made automatic tracking radars, and one fire unit of the Chinese HQ-9 radar at Chaklala during the retaliatory strike on May 10. Intelligence inputs now suggest that Pakistan has four HQ-9 (the Chinese equivalent of the Russian S-300 air defence radar systems), instead of the two originally estimated by national security planners. There are also inputs that the Pakistanis, by mixing two fire units of the 250 km-range HQ-9 air defence system with two other 150 km-range systems at Chaklala and Malir Cantonment near Karachi, respectively, may have tried to catch the Indian Air Force by surprise. The action taken reports also show that the IAF fired 19 BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles at Pakistani airbases, along with nearly an equal number of French SCALP subsonic cruise missiles. In turn, the Pakistanis fired CM-400 AKG air-launched supersonic missiles at Indian airbases using Chinese JF-17 fighters, but these failed to cause any damage. The Turkish-built YIHA loitering ammunition, which Pakistan fired in large numbers, was either jammed by the Indian electronic warfare suite, missed its targets, or was taken down by India's robust air defence system. Even the FATAH-1 rockets fired by Pakistan were either off the mark or intercepted by Indian air defence systems. HT has learned that there is now adequate evidence that India's first counter-terror strike on May 7 was a success. Markaz-e-Taiba (the LeT headquarters at Muridke) was hit by four to five Crystal Maze missiles, which leave a small entry point but inflict heavy internal damage. The Jaish-e-Mohammed facility at Markaz-e-Subhan Allah was hit by six SCALP missiles launched from Rafale fighters and was totally destroyed through a pinpoint strike using bunker-busting techniques. The Indian Air Force and Indian Navy used Israeli loitering ammunition to destroy terror camps in Occupied Kashmir on May 7. Between the launch of the operation in the early hours of May 7 and the ceasefire on the evening of May 10, Indian forces bombed nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoK and killed at least 100 terrorists. The Indian Air Force also struck targets at 13 Pakistani airbases and military installations. On Tuesday, it emerged that India's targeting of locations within Pakistan during the May 7–10 clash was more extensive than previously known, with a Pakistani document acknowledging that Indian drones had struck locations ranging from Peshawar in the northwest to Hyderabad in the south. Pakistan's Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, which was mounted in response to Operation Sindoor, 'folded in eight hours' on May 10, belying Islamabad's ambitious target of bringing India to its knees in 48 hours, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan said on Tuesday. Actor-politician G Krishnakumar and family face kidnapping and extortion allegations
Thiruvananthapuram police have registered a kidnapping and extortion case against actor-cum-politician G Krishnakumar and his family. A female staff of Krishnakumar's daughter Diya's firm filed a complaint, alleging that the actor and Diya kidnapped her and extorted money, police confirmed on Saturday. Simultaneously, the police registered an embezzlement case against the female staff. Krishnakumar and Diya filed this complaint, accusing the employee of financial misconduct. "We have registered both cases," stated an officer from the Museum police station, where authorities filed the First Information Reports (FIRs). "We are currently reviewing all evidence submitted with the complaints. Further action will follow this review." Meanwhile, Krishnakumar told a television channel that three female employees embezzled approximately 69 lakh from the firm while his pregnant daughter, Diya, could not look after the business. The actor also claimed that after they discovered the embezzlement and threatened law enforcement action, the women met with them, alongside their husbands, and confessed to the crime. "They initially paid about 8 lakh and promised to return the remaining money, asking us not to file a complaint," Krishnakumar asserted. "However, one of them later called and threatened my daughter, prompting us to file a police complaint on May 30 or 31." He further claimed the employee's complaint against his family was a counter-complaint, filed just one day after their own. "Now I have learnt that police have registered a case under non-bailable provisions against all six members of my family, including my son-in-law," he stated. Krishnakumar also confirmed sending an electronic mail to the CM's Office that explains the situation, to which he received a response. He claims to possess electronic evidence of the staff committing the said crime and subsequently admitting their guilt. "We have provided all this evidence to the police," he concluded.
