Encounter in Kishtwar after security forces intensify search operations in Jammu
In a post on X, Army's White Knight Corps said: 'OP CHERJI. Based on specific inputs an operation was launched by #IndianArmy in the Hadal Gal area of #Kishtwar Sector. Contact has been established with #terrorists. The #operation is currently in progress'.
This comes amid searches in Jammu in the aftermath of the April 22 terror attack at Pahalgam in Kashmir where 26 people – mostly tourists but also one local pony operator – were shot dead. Searches have especially intensified in the areas south of the Pir Panjal range.
Although there are no details yet, sources said there were intelligence reports that '2-3 terrorists' were reportedly hiding in Hadal Gal and that security forces equipped with night vision devices are conducting searches even during night.
This comes nearly a month after a topmost commander of the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad was killed in a joint operation by security forces and the police in the adjoining Dudu-Basantgarh area of Udhampur district. According to officials, the terrorist, identified as Haider and codenamed Maulvi, was from Pakistan and was part of a four-member group that is suspected to have entered Basantgarh from the adjoining Kathua district.
The police and security forces said thy had been tracking the group since last year after a village defense guard (VDG) and an Army soldier were killed in separate encounters.
While Haider was killed on June 26, his accomplices managed to escape into the thick forests.

Mangaluru: RoshanSaldanha, a Mangaluru-based man accused of defrauding businessmen across several states of several crore rupees, has been remanded to judicial custody. The accused, who was arrested earlier this week, is facing multiple FIRs related to financial frauds, police said. Police produced Saldanha before a court on Saturday night, which ordered a judicial custody for him. Mangaluru South (CEN) police, who are already investigating two earlier cases involving Rs 11 crore and Rs 2 crore, have now received fresh complaints. A Maharashtra-based businessman alleged that Rs 5 crore was transferred to Saldanha's account on July 16. Similarly, a businessman from Assam claimed a loss of Rs 20 lakh on July 17. Police have since directed banks to freeze the accused's accounts. Chitradurga police may also seek his custody in connection with a separate case involving a Rs 40 crore fraud filed by an Andhra Pradesh businessman. Mangaluru Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said the accused will likely be taken into police custody again for further interrogation. Authorities have urged other victims to file complaints either locally or with the South CEN police station. Meanwhile, a Malaysian woman found at Saldanha's residence at the time of arrest is being processed for repatriation. Police said she has no role in the fraud. Her documents are being verified in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs.

Both Houses of the Parliament witnessed a massive ruckus as the opposition demanded a discussion on Operation Sindoor. The government said it was willing to hold discussions. Parliament Monsoon Session: The Monsoon Session of the Parliament saw a tumultuous commencement on Monday as Operation Sindoor dominated discussions in both Houses. The opposition parties claimed that they were not allowed to speak, while the government reaffirmed its willingness for a discussion on the operation and accused the opposition of disrupting proceedings. The opposition raised slogans, demanding an immediate discussion on the Pahalgam terror attack and the Operation Sindoor, instead of the question hour. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said in the Rajya Sabha that the opposition only wanted a discussion into the details of the operation and did not intend to politicise the issue. However, slogans continued in both Houses, disrupting parliamentary proceedings. 'Not Allowed To Speak' 'The government wants to answer on every issue. The House should function. You have not come here to raise slogans. The House functions as per the rules and regulations. All the issues raised according to the rules will be discussed," said Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Speaking to reporters outside the House, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the Defence Minister was allowed to speak, but opposition members are not being allowed to speak. 'This is a new approach. The convention states that if people from the government side can speak, then we should also be given space to speak. We wanted to say two words, but we were not allowed to do so," he added. The Parliament is set to witness heated debates as the Opposition parties look to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack, demanding accountability from the government, and to bring up the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Bihar ahead of the upcoming assembly polls. PM Modi Sets The Tone Before the Monsoon Session commenced, Prime Minister Narendra Modi set the tone for the parliamentary procedures with a brief address to the media, where he highlighted that the Indian military achieved all its objectives in neutralising terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. 'The entire world has witnessed the strength of India's armed forces," he added. 'During the 'Operation Sindoor' against Pakistan, the Indian military achieved 100 per cent of its objectives." The operation was carried out after the devastating April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, mostly tourists. The Opposition is expected to demand a detailed explanation from the Prime Minister on the military action and its broader implications.
