MNF alleges infra funds misuse in Mizoram

Aizawl:
Mizo National Front
(MNF) on Friday raised serious concerns over the utilisation of funds sanctioned for key infrastructure projects in Mizoram, questioning whether the money was misused or misappropriated by the Mizoram govt.
The alleged fund embezzlement was brought to light during a meeting of the DONER Consultative Committee held on Thursday afternoon at the Parliament Annex Committee Room. The meeting was attended by several MPs from the northeastern states and key officials, MNF said in a statement.
According to the statement, during the meeting, Mizoram's lone Rajya Sabha member, K Vanlalvena, representing MNF, pointed out that funds allocated under the ministry of DONER for the repair of the Keitum-N Mualcheng-Zawlsei road in central Mizoram's Serchhip district, under the 2023-2024 budget, were yet to be utilised.
Despite approval for the repair works, the projects did not commence, and Vanlalvena suggested that the allocated money might have been diverted to other purposes by the present state govt.
The meeting decided that the matter should be addressed in the next meeting for further investigation.
The MP told TOI that around Rs 200 crore was sanctioned by the ministry of DoNER for the repair of the road.
In addition, the director of fisheries and animal husbandry from Mizoram raised concerns about the SNA SPARSH Scheme, for which the central govt sanctioned Rs 1,000 lakh in April 2025.

Central officials pointed out that the Mizoram govt had not utilised the funds, and this non-utilisation might affect further sanctions amounting to Rs 700 lakh.
MNF also demanded a white paper on the use of funds sanctioned in April 2025, stressing the need for accountability and transparency in the spending process. They called for the central govt to step in and ensure that the funds are utilised effectively for the benefit of the people of Mizoram.

Janmashtami to be celebrated at every police station: Yogi

1 2 Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said Janmashtami would be celebrated at every police station and police training institute in the state on Aug 16. "The occasion would provide trainees with an opportunity to showcase their cultural and artistic talents, making the festival a symbol of cultural unity," Yogi made this announcement during his visit to Moradabad where he inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 87 development projects worth Rs 1,172 crore. Accusing the Samajwadi Party of having tried to restrict Janmashtami celebrations when it was in power, Yogi said his govt would ensure grand celebrations across the state. Referring to the result of the Kundarki bypoll held in Nov 2024, where BJP trumped the SP candidate in a Muslim majority area, the CM called it Moradabad's rejection of SP's and Congress' divisive politics. "The public chose satisfaction over appeasement, leading to the forfeiture of SP-Congress deposits," he said. Highlighting the global recognition which Moradabad's handicraft are getting, the CM said "It was the commitment of BJP's double-engine government to elevate the city and its products on the world stage. Once known for chaos and hooliganism, Moradabad is now renowned for its excellent handicrafts and brass items under the ODOP scheme, exporting products worth Rs 11,000 to Rs 15,000 crore." He added that Moradabad's artists, including one who received a Padma award, are working tirelessly to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a self-reliant India. Kadoor panchayat brings governance to citizens' doorsteps

Udupi: In a move that redefines grassroots governance, the Kadoor gram panchayat in Brahmavar taluk is taking administration directly to the people right at their doorsteps. Under the innovative 'Janavasati Kade Namma Nade' initiative, the panchayat has moved beyond traditional practices where citizens must visit the office for services. Instead, every 15-20 days, a special public meeting is held in residential clusters, often at a local home, anganwadi centre, or another central location, making governance more accessible, inclusive, and responsive. What sets these meetings apart is their action-oriented approach, said panchayat development officer Mahesh K. He said they are not mere information-sharing sessions. Govt officials and elected representatives from departments like health, women and child development, revenue, and panchayat attend these gatherings, offering services such as accepting grievances and scheme applications, conducting on-the-spot health checkups, inspecting local infrastructure, collecting house and sanitation taxes, and resolving issues immediately whenever possible. The meetings are strategically held after 4pm to ensure that working citizens, particularly daily wage labourers, can attend. This timing has led to higher participation and greater impact. "Several health issues were identified and addressed during these sessions. A colony in Kalrashi is now seen as a problem-free zone thanks to timely interventions," said Jalandhar Shetty, president, Kadoor GP. Meetings are held with a minimum of five houses, and hence we can focus on development, health of individuals, and implementation of MGNREGA. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like She Was The Dream Girl In The 1980s, Here She Is Now. While many local-level meetings are limited to collecting grievances, these 'Janavasati Kade Namma Nade' meetings go further; they identify and solve problems right at the source, he added. The PDO said that with all department officials available near citizens' homes, even routine tasks like house tax collection become easier and more efficient. "The initiative has been widely appreciated for setting a new benchmark in participatory governance," the PDO added. Zilla panchayat CEO Prateek Bayal said, "Mandatory gram sabhas and ward meetings are crucial at the local level. But this is an excellent concept as they lay a strong foundation for better planning and effective scheme implementation. " So far, eight meetings have been held, and it is seen as a win-win situation for the public as well as for the panchayat.
