ASHA worker's body found, rape suspected
Budaun: A 40-year-old ASHA worker was found dead in a maize field in Alapur area here, with police suspecting sexual assault.
The body of the ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) worker was found on Monday night in a semi-naked condition. Officials said the exact cause of the death would be confirmed after autopsy.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Brijesh Singh said the deceased, identified as Rajkumari, wife of Raghvendra Jatav and resident of Hayatnagar village had gone to Kundan Nagla village for a vaccination drive on Monday.
She was last seen in the evening returning on a scooty with a known ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) to her village, after which she went missing, he said.
Police received information about the body through the UP 112 emergency service. The body was found in a maize field in Kharkholi village under Alapur police station limits, he said.
A forensic team was called to the scene, and the body was sent for autopsy after completing necessary legal formalities, he said.
SSP Singh added that Rajkumari had two sons and a daughter from her marriage with Raghvendra, whom she married in 2003 after the death of his first wife. Raghvendra also has a son from his first marriage. The deceased was involved in an ongoing land dispute in a civil court in Budaun against two men from the same village.

The gang's operations were not limited to Sambhal district alone. Cases have also been identified in nearby districts, such as Amroha, Badaun and Moradabad, according to officials. Police said they believe the total fraud amount has already exceeded Rs 100 crore and the figure may rise further as the investigation progresses. Sharma said police have sought detailed data from various insurance companies and are scrutinising records currently to identify other suspicious claims. The suspected data will be shared with the insurance companies for further verification and follow-up action, she said. According to Sharma, initial findings point to the involvement of ASHA workers, individuals working in the health sector and employees of insurance firms. She said the investigation is going on swiftly and more arrests are likely. Responding to a question about the ED's involvement in the case, Sharma confirmed that the federal agency has sought specific information, including FIR copies, which have been provided by police.

Police patils to assist in Ranjangaon triple murder probe
The Pune Rural Police have sought the assistance of Police patils from villages across Maharashtra in the ongoing investigation of the alleged gruesome triple murder case in Ranjangaon. The discovery of three unidentified bodies — a woman and two children — has raised suspicion of targeted killing. A senior officer from Pune rural police department said, 'We have conducted online meetings with more than 500 Police patils from various villages and Asha workers working at rural level to identify the bodies.' The presence of workforce from across the country in the industrial belt Ranjangaon has made authorities difficult to identify the deceased. Pune rural police have also sought assistance from the Crime Investigation Department (CID) to gather data of missing persons from other states, besides appointing a special investigation team to monitor the triple murder case. Police believe that the network of Police patils will help crack the case. The half-burnt bodies of a woman and two children were discovered at a field behind a private company in Ranjangaon-Khandale along the Pune–Ahilyanagar Road on May 25. According to the police, the woman, estimated to be aged between 25 and 30, had tattoo of a heart shape and heartbeat sign on the right hand, besides words mom and dad in English. The right hand also has the words 'Jai Bhim' and 'Rajratan'. A floral design is tattooed on her left arm. The police patils share crucial inputs and intelligence from their villages with the authorities.

Three convicted to life imprisonment in 2022 gangrape and murder case in Palnadu
The 5th Additional District Judge of Guntur K. Neelima on Tuesday sentenced three men to life imprisonment in the sensational 2022 gangrape and murder case involving a tribal woman from Macharla mandal in Palnadu district, according to Superintendent of Police Kanchi Srinivasa Rao. In a statement, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said that Seelam Anji (22), Saviti Chinna Anji (22), and Seelam Baiswami (31), all residents of Bellamkonda Vari Palem Chenchu Colony, were convicted under IPC Sections 376D, 376A, 302, and 201 read with Section 34. Each was sentenced for 20 years for gangrape, 20 years for sexual assault causing death, life imprisonment for murder, and 7 years for destruction of evidence, along with fines totaling ₹70,000. The victim, aged about 46 was an ASHA worker. She was raped and murdered on September 16, 2022, while searching for her lost mobile phone. Mr. Srinivasa Rao commended the police for the meticulous investigation. APP Pallapu Krishna played a key role in securing conviction. The SP emphasised the success of the district's 'Special Trial Case Monitoring' initiative in ensuring justice.
