Brian Wilson: Beach Boys star who surfed the waves to success
Born in California in 1942, he showed early musical talent, teaching harmonies to his younger brothers Dennis and Carl and obsessively studying piano.
In 1961, Wilson, his brothers, cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine recorded Surfin', a local hit that marked the birth of The Beach Boys.
Signed to Capitol Records a year later, the band shaped 1960s American pop with hits such as Surfin' USA, I Get Around and California Girls.
The 1966 album Pet Sounds, which included the track God Only Knows, remains a landmark in modern music, influencing generations of artists including Sir Paul McCartney, who called it his favourite record.
Sir Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Smokey Robinson and Carole King were also fans, while The Who's drummer, Keith Moon, fantasised about joining the Beach Boys.
The band ranks among the most popular groups of the rock era, with more than 30 singles in the Top 40 and worldwide sales of more than 100 million and they were voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.
Originally unfinished in the 1960s, he finally completed and released Smile in 2004 to critical acclaim.
Wilson struggled with mental illness and drug addiction, but in later years he toured globally.

Brian Wilson and the bliss of bubble-gum pop
CLEAN-CUT, SMILING, wholesome—the Beach Boys ruled the American airwaves in the early 1960s. Their music was as sunny as a Southern California morning: easy to sing along to, but underlaid by complex harmonies and instrumentation that reward relistening. Brian Wilson—who died on June 11th, aged 82—was one of three brothers in the group and wrote most of their songs. Bob Dylan joked that he should 'will [his ear] to the Smithsonian' and Paul McCartney called 'Pet Sounds', the band's baroque masterpiece, his favourite album. Here are five essential tracks. 'Surfer Girl' The pining ('Do you love me? Do you, surfer girl'), extravagant promises ('I will make your dreams come true') and gently modulated harmonies make the Beach Boys sound like the coolest doo-wop group on the quad. Anyone who listens closely to the spiky guitar in the middle section and the wailing vocals at the end will hear a group that both embraced and winked at convention.

Love Island confirms new pairings as four couples swap in chaotic twist
Love Island's girls were given a chance to choose their partners for the first time tonight, and the results were chaotic after two stars snuck out to the Hideaway Love Island 's first recoupling ceremony of season 12 aired tonight (June 12), and things got a little spicy around the firepit after not one but four women ended up swapping partners. The girls in the villa were given the opportunity to choose what men they wanted to be with this time around, after the power was left in the boys' hands during the last recoupling incident when Toni came in as a bombshell and Shakira had to get her graft on. Surprisingly, a lot has changed in the past two days, and the women are feeling attracted to very different men than they were when they arrived on the scene in Mallorca. After sneaky link-ups in the Hideaway and cheeky games around the firepit, here is who this year's Islanders have recoupled with: Toni and Conor Toni gave Ben 'the ick' after she jokingly said that he was making this recoupling ceremony all about him, which led to him storming off from the group conversation they were in. He wasted little time in making his feelings known, telling other people in the villa that ever since that remark, he felt annoyed by everything Toni did. She later confronted him, and he claimed there was "nothing there" romantically between them, adding that she was "p*****g him off". After this outburst the American bombshell wasn't finding him too hot either, and decided to couple up with Conor instead. Alima and Remell Alima hinted at wanting to recouple with Remell shortly after he came into the villa as a bombshell, telling the smooth-talker from Essex that she was 'just friends' with her original partner Blu and even giving him a kiss during a game where she was asked to express who she was most interested in. She later admitted that she felt that "initial attraction" towards him, and he responded similarly, saying he was "feeling a vibe". However, things appeared to go downhill when he was asked to share a juicy secret with the group, and revealed that he had once slept with five women in one night. At the time Alima seemed shocked, and in a confessional said: "This is the first time that he's walking into a villa like with new people. You then go and say that you've slept with five people in a night. I'm like why would you say that?" Despite this bump in the road, it seems she's decided to give him a second chance. Helena and Harry Harry has had a wild ride in the villa, going from being paired up with Sophie Lee to being snatched up by Shakira, to now recoupling with Helena. Although Harry tried to reassure Shakira that he only had eyes for her 'til the cows came home, his actions spoke louder than words, and he ended up getting some grief from his partner for stroking Helena's leg while they sat by the firepit last night (June 11). He promised Shakira he meant nothing by it, but he also gave Helena a lap dance during the group's game of dare or dare last night and asked if she would be keen to go to the Hideaway later. Once he saw Shakira was not all in on him either, he snuck off for some shenanigans with Helena in the middle of the night. Harry did his best to try and schmooze Shakira back in the cold light of day, apologising for not telling her about his overnight Hideaway plans, but the damage was done. Now he is free to fall asleep in the arms of Helena every night - if his wandering eye doesn't come out again. Shakira and Ben Perhaps the most controversial coupling in the villa tonight, Shakira and Ben were originally paired up on the very first day of Love Island but got split up by Toni who came in as a bombshell right away. Ben seemed overly pleased about this, and went on to tell the Vegas waitress that he was glad she picked him because Shakira "needed to be humbled". Shakira and Ben even appeared to be rowing before the bombshell twist, as Maya noticed that they were "bickering" already when she first came to check up on the couples. Ben also described their bond as a "love hate relationship" on day one, leaving viewers wondering if there were any unaired scenes that could explain why there was so much animosity between them. Despite all of the drama, it seems the old adage of 'treat them mean keep them keen' somehow worked on Shakira, as she ended up going back to Ben tonight. Meanwhile, the only couples who have been going strong since episode one and decided to stay together were Meg and Dejon, and Megan and Tommy. Dejon has frequently reassured Meg that he is serious about her, particularly after Shakira tried to make moves on him when she was single, and she seems more than ready to take him into the next chapter of her Love Island journey.

One happy customers said: "Love this dress - took to Malaga and was perfect for slightly sunny days. Lovely print and usual Boden quality." While another shopper said: "I normally wear a size 6 in items but anytime I order from Boden I size up. Beautiful dress and the color is stunning!" Another reviewer remarked: "I absolutely love this dress—thank you, Boden, for another great summer staple! The linen is light and breathable, perfect for warm days, and the cut is effortlessly flattering. "It's one of those dresses you can throw on and instantly feel put together. The blue is vibrant and fresh, and I know I'll be reaching for this one all season long." But not everyone was happy with their purchase. One shopper said: "The combination of poofy sleeves with a lack of waist definition joined together to make me look at least twice as wide as I actually am. "I looked like I was wearing American football pads on my shoulders. As other reviewers have mentioned, the dress was much too tight in the chest, and I worry that sizing up will only add to the width issue. "As much as I wanted to like this dress, and as great as it looks in the model photos, this one sadly had to go back."
