Nagpur: The Maharashtra government on Monday approved a new Rs500 crore plan 'MahaAgri-AI Policy 2025–2029' to help farmers use artificial intelligence (AI) and new technologies for better farming.
The policy was approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by CM Devendra Fadnavis.
Over the next five years, AI will be used for tasks like crop monitoring, weather updates, farm advice, market trends, and pest control. The goal is to make farming more accurate, efficient, and profitable for farmers. Technologies like drones, smart sensors, and mobile apps will help collect and share information with farmers in real time.
The policy will begin with Rs500 crore funding for the first three years. A special team, technical experts, and a new Centre for AgriTech and AI Innovation will help run the programme. This centre will also support startups and train people in using new tools.
Many existing digital platforms like MahaVedh, AgriStack, CropSAP, and Mahadbt will be integrated together into a single system called agricultural data exchange (A-DeX).
It will help farmers get data about land, soil, weather, and markets through easy-to-use mobile and online services.
A smart system using satellite images, drones, and internet-connected devices will help government departments make better decisions. It will work along with national platforms like ISRO's Bhuvan and the central government's Fasal project.
The state will also start an AI-powered service called Vistaar, which will advise farmers in Marathi using chatbots and voice assistants on topics like crops, prices, pests, and government schemes.
To help farmers sell their crops in global markets, a blockchain system will track every step from the farm to the market. It will record the use of fertilizers, farming methods, and quality checks with QR codes, starting with export-quality crops.
Four AI training centres will be set up in state agricultural universities. Scientists, officials, and farmer producer groups will be trained in using AI. A helpdesk will also be created for technical support.
The government will also host a yearly "AI in Agriculture" event to bring together farmers, experts, companies, and investors. This event will be held in different districts each year.
The government in a statement said the entire programme is designed to directly benefit farmers and make farming more modern, secure, and successful in Maharashtra.

Axiom-4 mission delayed again: ISRO confirms Subhanshu Shukla's ISS spaceflight won't launch before 22 June 2025

The Axiom-4 mission, which was announced in May and would carry Subhanshu Shukla and three others to the International Space Station, has been postponed for the third time. According to the newswire PTI, Shukla will not be able to go to space before 22 June 2025, further delaying his shot at achieving a major milestone. ISRO confirms the delay ISRO confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that the teams from ISRO, Poland, and Hungary have engaged in a detailed discussion with Axiom Space regarding the probable launch timeline of Axiom Mission 4. Following the discussion, Axiom Space also held consultations with NASA and SpaceX to assess multiple parameters to ensure that the spacecraft is ready to take off. Axiom Space has informed that the next probable launch date is 22 June 2025. This date is given by considering the readiness status of the SpaceX Falcon 9 launch vehicle and the Dragon spacecraft. Other factors, such as repairs in the Zvezda module of the International Space Station, ascent corridor weather conditions, and the health and preparedness of the crew in quarantine, also play a role in assessing whether the team is prepared to leave for its mission. What caused the earlier delay? The mission was originally scheduled for launch on 11 June from NASA's Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, but the mission was postponed after the aircraft, which was supposed to carry the four astronauts to space, could not pass the quality test. The SpaceX team detected a liquid oxygen (LOX) leak during booster inspection. ISRO confirmed the delay, stating: 'It has been decided to clear the leak and carry out necessary validation tests before clearing for the launch.' Axiom-4 mission details Former NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson will command the Axiom-4 mission, which will be piloted by Subhanshu Shukla. The other two astronauts joining the mission are ESA's Slawosz Uznanski from Poland and Hungary's Tibor Kapu. Also Read | Axiom-4 Mission launch gets postponed to 11 June due to bad weather

Maharashtra To Double Honorarium Amount For Emergency Prisoners

Mumbai: The Maharashtra cabinet has decided to double the honorarium provided by the state government to those imprisoned during the Emergency in 1975. The cabinet also decided to provide the honorarium to the spouses of the imprisoned persons, which means that the surviving spouses would be the beneficiaries of the pension benefits. These decisions have been approved under the revised "Gaurav Yojana," which aims to honour the contributions of individuals from Maharashtra. Currently, an honorarium ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 is provided as a pension benefit to people imprisoned during the Emergency. As per the cabinet, the honorarium amount will be twofold. The cabinet meeting chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also approved MahaKrishi-AI policy 2025-2029, which pushed for the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in agricultural activities with a view that transformation can be achieved by using such emerging technologies in the agriculture sector. Using AI, generative AI, drones, computer vision, robotics, and predictive analytics would help further projects in the state, such as Agri Stack, Mahaveda, CROPSAP, and Agmarknet. Moreover, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) will get 29 hectares 52 R land at Mauje Jambutke in Nashik district for the tribal industrial cluster. Emerging entrepreneurs from the tribal community will be encouraged, promoting employment generation and economic growth. The cabinet decision, taken under the revenue department's ambit, approved the waiver of stamp duty on land required for the joint project of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and M/s Raigad Pen Growth Centre Ltd. This is the first significant project in the state through public-private partnership (PPP), which is expected to attract foreign investment. Stamp duty will be waived on the transfer of land required for Maharashtra National Law University at Pahadi Goregaon in Mumbai. The university will have its building with academic facilities for thousands of students. The cabinet also decided to waive stamp duty on the lease agreement between a special purpose vehicle (SPV) and other agencies in the Dharavi redevelopment project. Since it is a major project in the public interest, the rehabilitation and redevelopment plan will gain momentum, and it will facilitate its implementation. Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) will be set up at the Gram Panchayat level under the central government's WINDS (Weather Information Network Data System) project. To this end, the cabinet has decided to extend the deadline for the Mahaveda project. This project aims to provide accurate weather information to all the villages of the state. It is important for farmers to get weather-based agricultural advice and guidance. The other cabinet decision includes the extension of loans from the Asian Development Bank and the New Development Bank for Mumbai Metro Route 2A, which connects Dahisar East to D N Nagar, and Route 2B, which connects DN Nagar to Mandale. The Virar-Alibaug Multipurpose Transport Corridor project has been approved and will be taken up on a "Build, Operate and Transfer" (BOP) basis. The cabinet also approved a change in the definition of non-resident Indian (NRI) for admission in courses in non-aided private professional educational institutions. This means that children and dependents of NRIs will be admitted to professional courses. This decision prompts an amendment to the Admission and Fee Regulation Act of 2015.
