Bhasker condemns latest Gaza attack

Express Tribune21-03-2025
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) recently, Indian actor Swara Bhasker condemned Israel for breaking the ceasefire agreement set under the Biden administration and resuming the airstrikes on the Gaza Strip in Palestine.
"We live in a world where it's apparently acceptable to slaughter 400 children in one day because they are Palestinian. What an utterly despicable act of terrorism. I will say it again and again: Israel is the terrorist," Bhasker wrote.
This isn't the first time that the Veere Di Wedding actor has expressed empathy for Palestine. In February last year, she quoted a clip of a father holding her daughter after surviving bombardment.
"Everyday, I hug my baby girl a little tighter and pray I never experience the helplessness of Palestinian parents," she wrote.
Back in October 2023, she pointed out the hypocrisy of social media users denouncing Hamas and overlooking the atrocities committed by Israel over decades.
"If you have not felt shock and horror at Israel's unending atrocities on Palestinians, the forcible occupation of Palestinian homes, the forced evictions, the bigotry and violence of settler Israelis, the murder of Palestinian children and teenagers, the decades long blockade and bombing of Gaza and civilians in Gaza, including bombing of schools and hospitals (not to mention the apartheid and occupation), then I'm afraid your shock and horror at Hamas' attacks on Israel seem a bit hypocritical."
Bhasker's stance has remained consistent in the past, even before the Hamas-led attack in October 2023. Back in 2021, she wrote, "Israel is an apartheid state. Israel is a terrorist state. Enough said. Free Palestine."
In another tweet around the same time, she wrote, "The cause of Palestine and justice for Palestinians isn't an Islamic cause, at least it shouldn't solely be that. It is first and foremost an anti-imperialist, anti-colonial and, anti-apartheid cause and that's why it should concern us all, even non-Muslims."

Need to resolve all disputes for peace in SA: Tarar

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has said Hindutva ideology propagated by the Indian leadership poses the greatest threat to peace in South Asia. Speaking at a policy dialogue titled 'Peace in South Asia' hosted by the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) on Thursday, the minister said the India is also sponsoring terrorism inside Pakistan. As regards Indus Water Treaty, the minister said it is a legally binding document and it cannot be held in abeyance unilaterally. He said Pakistan has made it clear that water is our lifeline and no compromise will be made on it. He said any attempt to hinder the flow of water will be responded to decisively. The minister also emphasised the need for the resolution of all disputes including that of Jammu and Kashmir. He pointed out that President Trump has at various occasions, directly mentioned the Kashmir dispute. He said India cannot usurp the rights of innocent Kashmiri people, emphasising that there must be respect for the United Nations (UN) Security Council resolutions. The information minister said Pakistan has consistently played its role for peace in the region and it will continue to do so in future as well. He, however, said Pakistan's desire for peace should not be construed as weakness. He said Pakistan has demonstrated to the world its capability to effectively respond to any unprovoked aggression. KP CM's remarks cited: India seeks Pakistan's return to FATF ‘grey list'

KARACHI: The Indian government has submitted the recent remarks of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) as evidence against Pakistan, officials of the global watchdog confirmed. According to FATF officials, New Delhi has presented the statement as formal proof in support of its stance that Islamabad provides support to terrorist elements. The Indian submission specifically references Gandapur's recent comment in which he said: 'We arrest the Taliban, but our own institutions get them released, claiming they are their people.' The remarks, which drew criticism at home, are now being used by India to request Pakistan's re-listing on the FATF's 'increased monitoring' list, commonly known as the grey list. Indian authorities have argued that this public admission by a provincial chief minister shows that Pakistan's institutions continue to aid and protect terrorist elements. The FATF officials said India framed the statement as a formal 'charge sheet' against Pakistan, particularly highlighting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a region gravely affected by terrorism and militancy. Pakistan was taken off the FATF grey list in 2022, giving it a clean bill of health on terrorist financing and boosting its reputation among lenders — essential for Pakistan's crisis-hit economy. The FATF's grey list — in which Pakistan was placed from 2018-2022 —places a country under increased monitoring until it has rectified identified flaws in its financial system.
