Selangor keeps water tariff at RM6.50 for domestic users
Amirudin explained that the revision supports efforts to enhance water reserves and replace aging asbestos pipes. 'This adjustment allows Air Selangor to replace over 1,600 kilometres of pipes, some over 40 years old, at a rate of 300 kilometres annually,' he said.
For households using 20–35 cubic metres monthly, the rate will rise by RM0.30 to RM1.62 per cubic metre. Those exceeding 35 cubic metres will pay RM3.51 per cubic metre, an RM0.88 increase. Condominiums and government quarters will see a RM0.41 hike to RM2.09 per cubic metre.
Low-cost housing residents face the smallest increase—RM0.10 per cubic metre—bringing the rate to RM1.18. Commercial users will pay RM3.51 per cubic metre, up RM0.57, while places of worship and welfare institutions enjoy a minimal RM0.10 rise to RM0.76.
The shipping industry's rate will increase to RM8.01 per cubic metre, and data centres will pay RM5.31. The new tariffs take effect on September 1.
Amirudin added that Air Selangor is constructing new treatment plants in Rasau and Labohan Dagang 2, costing RM7.671 billion and RM479.52 million, respectively. These projects will boost daily treated water capacity by 2,730 million litres.
The state will also expand the Skim Air Darul Ehsan (SADE) eligibility, raising the household income threshold from RM5,000 to RM6,000 monthly. Additionally, the government will absorb RM100,000 annually for places of worship and welfare institutions, totalling RM52.7 million in subsidies. - Bernama

Carey Island port development discussed at Selangor JBI meeting
SHAH ALAM: The development of a third port on Carey Island was among the key topics discussed during the Selangor Joint Committee for Industrial Coordination (JBI) meeting today. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari stated that the proposal is still in early stages and requires further evaluation by the Economy and Finance Ministries. Amirudin said, '(The development of Carey Island) is part of the discussion scope (in the JBI meeting). A proposal was brought up, but we are just beginning and it's still too early. If it proceeds well, (the project) could serve as a significant leap and may be included in the review of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) or the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2), which is expected to be tabled in June 2026.' The meeting, co-chaired by Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz, also focused on investment commitments and development agendas. Three Selangor government proposals were tabled: industrial park development, waste-to-energy projects, and an aerospace hub. MITI presented papers on rare earth elements (REE) downstream and midstream development, as well as robotic mechanisation in cleaning operations. S'gor MB: Pulau Carey port development in preliminary stages
SHAH ALAM: Plans for a third port in Pulau Carey, Kuala Langat, are still in the preliminary stages, according to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. The topic was among matters discussed during a joint committee meeting on industry coordination between the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) and the Selangor government on Monday (Aug 4). Amirudin noted that discussions about the port's development are in their infancy and require further analysis. "We need to forward this to the Finance Ministry and the Economy Ministry for additional input and study," he explained. "If the project progresses well, it could be incorporated into the 13th Malaysia Plan 2026 to 2030 or the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2), which is set to be tabled in June 2026," he added, following a three-hour meeting at Dewan Jubli Perak in Bangunan Sultan Abdul Aziz, Shah Alam. The concept of a third port for Port Klang was initially suggested in 2010 as part of the Port Klang Master Plan, envisioning a mega port on Carey Island, Selangor. The proposed facility is expected to handle an annual container throughput of 30 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) and aims for completion by 2060. Amirudin co-chaired the Joint Committee Meeting with Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Zafrul Abdul Aziz. The meeting also covered topics such as the development of waste-to-energy projects, industrial advancements, and an aero park in Selangor. Rebuilding Putra Heights homes only 24pc complete, MB says Selangor to review progress
SHAH ALAM, Aug 4 — Issues regarding the provision of aid to victims of the gas pipe explosion in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, including the extension of house rental financing, will be discussed at the Selangor Economic Action Meeting (MTES) on Friday (Aug 8). Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government will also review the progress of the reconstruction and repair of the victims' homes to ensure work is going on smoothly. 'As I said at the recent Selangor State Legislative Assembly, the process will be completed in October. Yes, it will take some time because it depends on the severity of the damage, but if the (construction) work is slow, we will review it. 'I also mentioned at the assembly sitting the other day that the work is currently at 22 to 24 per cent progress, and carried out by Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB), while rebuilding work in Kampung Kuala Sungai Baharu is progressing much faster,' he said. He said this at a media conference after the Selangor Joint Committee for Industrial Coordination (JBI) meeting that he co-chaired with the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz, at Dewan Jubli Perak here today. Amirudin also denied that there is a difference in the assistance received between victims in Kampung Kuala Sungai Baharu and Taman Putra Heights, adding that it instead depended on the damage suffered based on the stipulated ceiling payment. 'The houses (of the victims) in Putra Heights were completely damaged. We have several categories: houses that are recorded as total loss (will get) up to RM300,000, and those with minor damage up to RM60,000.
