Mayor Bhagyalakshmi informed that on President Droupadi Murmu will be presenting the award at a programme in New Delhi's Vigyan Bhavan on July 17. She thanked citizens, sanitation workers, and staff—the key contributors to this success. Commissioner Dhayanachandra HM emphasised that it is a matter of great pride that Vijayawada was selected for Super Swachhata League in the very first year of its introduction under Swachh Survekshan 2024. He expressed deep pride in Vijayawada joining the league alongside Indore, Navi Mumbai, and Surat. He stated that the award belongs to every citizen, sanitation worker, and participant of the Swachh Survekshan initiative in the city.
Despite facing the severe Budameru floods in 2024, Vijayawada not only sustained its standings among top-performing cities but also secured this position in Swachh Survekshan—a truly remarkable achievement. During the disaster, with the support of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, MA&UD Minister P Narayana, principal secretary S Suresh Kumar, DMA P Sampath Kumar, MD Swachh Andhra Corporation as well as over 10,000 sanitation workers, 200+ officials, and more than 32 IAS officers, the city effectively managed flood-related waste and sanitation issues. This concerted effort not only saved Vijayawada from major setbacks but also led to national recognition.

PM Modi's praise for Bhopal's sanitation efforts boosted morale: CM Yadav

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for appreciating Bhopal's sanitation measures during his monthly Mann Ki Baat' radio broadcast and said the praise has upped the state's morale. In the recently released Swachh Survekshan 2024', Bhopal was ranked the second-cleanest city in India, with MP's financial capital Indore bagging the top position for the eighth consecutive time. The PM's words have boosted the state's morale, said Yadav, who listened to Mann Ki Baat at an event in the city's Gulmohar Colony in Ward No. 50. He also planted a banyan sapling on the occasion. Prime Minister Modi ji inspires the power of every citizen for nation-building, Yadav said. Addressing the gathering, the CM said Modi's radio programme has become an effective platform for direct communication with the people of the country. It brings inspiring stories from across India that play a key role in nation-building, he added. Earlier, PM Modi lauded Sakaratmak Soch', a Bhopal-based organisation comprising 200 women, which works in the field of sanitation. They don't just clean, they also change mindsets. Cleaning 17 parks in the city together, distributing cloth bags, every step of theirs is a message. Owing to such efforts, Bhopal has now come a long way in the Swachh Survey, Modi said in Mann Ki Baat. Yadav said Bhopal residents deserve congratulations for the city's stellar performance in the cleanliness rankings. During his address, PM Modi also spoke about 12 Maratha forts listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and said there are such amazing forts in other parts of the country too, which have faced attacks, faced the vagaries of weather, but never let their self-respect bow down. He said that MP's Bundelkhand region also is home to several forts that were cultural symbols. ... Gwalior, Jhansi, Datia, Ajaygarh, Garhkundar and Chanderi. These forts are not just bricks and stones; they are symbols of our heritage. Sanskar and self-respect still peep from the high walls of these forts, said Modi. The PM also urged citizens to visit these forts, know their history, feel proud.

India should take a cue from Vietnam, Japan and insist written statement before announcing US trade deal: GTRI

New Delhi [India], July 27 (ANI): Referring to purported differences in understanding of US trade agreements and their clauses with Vietnam and Japan, think tank Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) suggested that India tread carefully as it negotiates its trade agreement with the US. GTRI, in a report released on Sunday, called for India to take a cue from the experiences of countries like Vietnam and Japan and insisted that India should ask for a jointly issued, written statement before acknowledging any agreement. There appears to be a contradiction in the understanding of the recently agreed-upon trade deals between the US and Vietnam, as well as the US and Japan. Citing a Japanese government document released on July 25, GTRI asserted that it revealed significant discrepancies between Japan's understanding of a new trade deal with the US and how President Donald Trump had portrayed it. "To avoid similar misrepresentation, India must insist on a jointly issued, written statement before acknowledging any agreement," GTRI suggested. Trump claimed on July 22 that the agreement secures massive Japanese investments, strong tariff protections, and guaranteed access for U.S. farm exports, including rice. However, Japan's official summary, published by its Cabinet Secretariat, describes a far more limited framework--still under negotiation and lacking binding commitments, according to GTRI analysis. Trump stated that Japan would invest USD 550 billion in the U.S., with 90 per cent of the profits remaining in America. But Japan's version tells a different story. It says the USD 550 billion includes a mix of equity, loans, and guarantees from state-backed institutions, not a lump-sum investment. Trump announced that Japan would significantly open its markets to US agricultural exports, including rice. However, according to a Japanese government document cited by GTRI, this limitation is restricted to procurement under its existing Minimum Access (MA) scheme, and only applies "depending on domestic demand and supply conditions." In effect, Japan reserves the right not to import US rice if there is no market need. Another area of divergence is found in automotive exports, as noted by GTRI. Trump claimed Japan would remove additional safety testing for US-made vehicles. Japan's document, according to GTRI, confirms that it will allow imports of American cars without additional testing, provided they meet Japanese road safety standards. "In other words, this is not a blanket exemption; US manufacturers must still comply with Japanese technical norms," GTRI inferred. (ANI)
