Inter Milan chose Cristian Chivu as their new coach over Patrick Vieira due to tactical continuity.
This according to today's print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter Milan are on the verge of appointing Cristian Chivu as their new coach.
Reportedly, the 44-year-old former Nerazzurri defender and youth team coach will leave Parma and sign a two-year deal.
Chivu was not necessarily Inter's Plan A after the departure of Simone Inzaghi. Rather, the Nerazzurri had worked to try and appoint Como coach Cesc Fabregas.
However, the Spaniard will instead be staying at the Lariani next season.

Reports suggest that Inter Milan would have been willing to make significant changes in order to hand the keys to the team over to Cesc Fabregas.

The 38-year-old former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder prefers a back four system to a back three.
However, once it became apparent that Inter weren't getting Fabregas, they had a couple options.
One was Genoa coach Patrick Vieira. However, the Nerazzurri did not go with the Frenchman, preferring Chivu.
And according to the Gazzetta, the primary reason for this is that Inter believe that Chivu will not disrupt the team too much.
Moreover, there is the fact that Chivu spent several seasons coaching the Nerazzurri's youth teams. He was the Primavera or Under-19 coach for three years, while Inzaghi was the senior coach.

Therefore, Chivu was able to closely observe the former coach. And this group of players.
Accordingly, Inter believe that the Romanian will keep the existing balance, and is therefore a less risky appointment.

Carlos Alcaraz returned to the French Open final after Lorenzo Musetti retired injured, sending the defending champion through to play against either Novak Djokovic or Jannik Sinner on Sunday. Musetti, the Italian eighth seed, struggled with a left leg injury and quit the match after losing his eighth consecutive game, with Alcaraz progressing 4-6 7-6 (3) 6-0 2-0. 'Sad and disappointed on how it ended,' said Musetti, who was bidding to reach his first grand slam final. 'But still a great match. I felt at the beginning of the third when I was serving, I started losing a little bit of strength on the left leg behind, and [it was] definitely was going worse and worse, so I decided to stop. I think it was the right decision to make, even if it was not what I wanted.' I'm a big tennis fan, it'll be a great match.' At one stage, it looked as if Alcaraz and Musetti were heading the distance, potentially delaying the later battle between the 24-time grand slam champion and the World No 1. 'The first two sets were really tough. I had chances to break his serve in the match and I couldn't make the most of it,' Alcaraz said. 'He was playing great tennis. When I won the second set there was relief.' It was hardly a violent explosion of anger, but Alcaraz seemed to wake up after kicking his bench in frustration when Musetti won an entertaining net exchange to lead 4-3 in the second. Musetti had resisted Alcaraz and was there to guide a volley down the line after the Spaniard had opened his legs for the tweener. It's the sort of fun point that Alcaraz plays for, but Musetti was winning too many of them. In the tiebreak, however, Alcaraz stepped it up, winning the first three points and then pushing Musetti deep into his backhand corner before landing a drop shot that tickled the net-cord on the way over. Alcaraz held up his racket in a gesture of apology but was ruthless in closing out the tiebreak and then instantly stamped his authority over Musetti in the third. Diamondbacks RHP Corbin Burnes will undergo Tommy John surgery
Arizona Diamondbacks ace Corbin Burnes is officially set to undergo Tommy John surgery and miss at least the remainder of the 2025 season. This news comes three days after Burnes sought a second opinion on the inflammation in his right elbow from Los Angeles-based doctor Neal El Attrache. Burnes originally sustained the elbow injury on June 1 during a start against the Washington Nationals. Arizona led 3-0 in the top of the fifth inning when Burnes allowed a single by CJ Abrams with two outs. The right-hander then gestured toward the dugout with his glove and yelled in frustration. Burnes allowed a run and four hits in 4 2/3 innings, with a walk and six strikeouts. Following the shortened start, he was placed on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation. Now, he'll receive Tommy John surgery and miss an extended period of time. He is 3-2 with a 2.66 ERA in 11 starts this season. Arizona signed Burnes to a $210 million, six-year contract before the season, and the 30-year-old has been very durable over the past several years. He's made at least 28 starts in every season since he won the 2021 National League Cy Young Award for the Milwaukee Brewers. Burnes' injury is yet another problem in a season that has already seen the D-backs go just 31-31 with a negative run differential, putting them in fourth place, 6.5 games back in a competitive NL West and 3.5 back of a wild card spot. Arizona missed the 2024 postseason due to losing the tiebreaker for the final wild card spot to the Mets. The D-backs called up left-hander Tommy Henry to take Burnes' spot on the roster.
