Giuseppe Ambrosino moves Celtic transfer goalposts as Louis Munteanu mystery cleared up
Celtic-linked Giuseppe Ambrosino has made a U-turn on his future at Napoli.
The Italy Under-21 youth star is one of many strikers thought to be on the radar of Parkhead scouts.
However, Celts aren't the only club keeping tabs on the youngster, who is out of contract next summer.
Serie A rivals Cremonese have been leading the chase to prize Ambrosino away from the Scudetto winners.
The 21-year-old has been training on his own in Naples after being left out of Antonio Conte's pre-season training camp.
But Italian outlet Corriere del Mezzogiorno reports that Ambrosino is determined to stay put and fight for his future in Naples.
It's said that academy graduate is willing to stick around and compete with Romelu Lukaku and Lorenzo Lucca for the centre forward spot.
Cremonese were confident of securing a loan deal with an option to buy but Ambrosino has now moved the goalposts.
The in-demand attacker spent last season with Frosinone in Serie B where he chipped in with five goals and four assists.
Meanwhile another forward Celtic have been linked with has dropped out of CFR Cluj's Europa League squad.
Romanian hitman Louis Munteanu netted 25 goals last term and was reportedly the subject of a Hoops bid in January.
French sides Nice and Lille have also been monitoring the goal machine - who previously insisted that he's happy in Romania.
However, it emerged tonight that the 23-year-old has not travelled to Portugal for Thursday's Europa League showdown with Braga.
That prompted rumours that Munteanu could be edging towards an exit.
But Cluj president Cristi Balaj quelled the speculation by revealing Munteanu had been ruled out through injury.
He told DigiSport: "Louis Munteanu has a minor muscle problem. It's a contracture. When you have a contracture and you don't follow the treatment for a few days, you risk a muscle tear."

Man Utd contact former star about transfer return after private 'tip-off'
Manchester United have contacted David de Gea about a sensational return to Old Trafford, according to reports. Ruben Amorim is not wholly convinced about his current goalkeeping options, with neither Andre Onana or Altay Bayindir inspiring confidence. The unconvincing performances of Onana and Bayindir has led the club to consider moves for Emiliano Martinez and Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer. United's priority has been on attacking reinforcements, however, and the club have spent almost £200m on Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. As a result Onana looks set to start for Manchester United in their Premier League opener against Arsenal on Sunday, although Amorim has refused to confirm the Cameroon international will be between the sticks. Metro's new weekly football newsletter: In The Mixer. Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every Friday – sign up, it's an open goal. 'It's like the other players,' Amorim said when asked if Onana would start against Arsenal. 'Everyone has to win the place. 'So I'm not going to say if one player is number one. He's ready to go to the game. Let's wait. You will know Sunday.' Onana missed the entirety of United's pre-season tour through injury but has regained his fitness in time for United's opening Premier League fixture. While moves for Martinez or Donnarumma appear unlikely, Manchester United are still considering bringing in a new goalkeeper and have made 'discreet background calls' about a return for De Gea. According to The Sun, United have been 'tipped off' that their former No. 1 has a clause in his Fiorentina contract allowing him to leave for a 'relatively small sum'. De Gea spent the 2023-24 campaign as a free agent after being released by Manchester United but joined Serie A side Fiorentina this time last year. During his 12-year spell at Old Trafford, De Gea established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Manchester United's history. The Spanish veteran made over 500 appearances for the Red Devils and won the club's Player of the Year award four times. De Gea made an emotional return to his former club last weekend in a pre-season friendly and later posted on social media that 'out paths may cross again'. 'A magical moment for me and my family to come back to Old Trafford – my home,' he said. 'From the bottom of my heart – I want to say thank you for the reception – for all the love you showed me. More Trending 'To the supporters that never stopped being with me throughout my time at this club. Our paths may cross again.' Speaking last season as Onana continued to struggle in the Manchester United goal, Old Trafford hero Paul Parker said it was a 'massive' mistake to let De Gea leave the club. 'Look at the goalkeeper, I think they made a massive mistake letting David de Gea go so quickly,' he said. 'They could have kept him there, built a team and then discussed bringing in a new goalkeeper. For me, it's more important for a goalkeeper to use his hands rather than his feet.' Marcus Rashford makes Barcelona debut and Harry Kane lifts silverware in Germany
Raphinha's early header and Torres' effort midway through the first half put Hansi Flick's side in control before Mallorca midfielder Manu Morlanes was sent off for his second yellow card. Here it is. Just like you wanted. — FC Barcelona (@FCBarcelona) August 16, 2025 Mallorca were reduced to nine men before half-time when VAR upgraded Vedat Muriqi's yellow card to a red following his foul on Joan Garcia. Raphinha and Dani Olmo both hit the woodwork and Lamine Yamal added a third goal in stoppage time. Elsewhere in Spain, Nahuel Tenaglia's stoppage-time winner clinched Alaves a 2-1 win at Levante and Valencia were held 1-1 at home in their opening match by Real Sociedad. Harry Kane lifted silverware in Germany after he and former Liverpool winger Luis Diaz scored in Bayern Munich's 2-1 Franz Beckenbauer Supercup win over Stuttgart. Harry Kane lifts the trophy (Tom Weller/AP) Kane struck in the 18th minute, marking his first Supercup appearance with a goal and his seventh in five games against Stuttgart. Debutant Diaz, having been quiet for much of the night, then made sure when he ran on to Serge Gnabry's cross to head home from close range in the 77th minute, with Jamie Leweling's stoppage-time header merely consolation for Stuttgart. In Ligue 1, former Tottenham defender Eric Dier scored on his debut for Monaco as they made a winning start by beating Le Havre 3-1 at home. Dier, who joined Monaco as a free agent this summer after his contract at Bayern Munich had expired, headed home in the 61st minute after Gautier Lloris' own goal had given the visitors a half-time lead. Rassoul Ndiaye pulled one back for Le Havre before Maghnes Akliouche sealed the points for the visitors by adding their third. Nice exited the Champions League this week after a 4-0 aggregate defeat to Benfica and they slipped up in their Ligue 1 opener, losing 1-0 at home to Toulouse thanks to Djibril Sidibe's late winner. Lyon forward Georges Mikautadze struck the only goal in their opening game at Lens to secure his side a 1-0 win.

Ruben Amorim hands Man Utd star warning ahead of first game of Premier League season
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim knows his side must be much improved this season after last term's dismal campaign and one man who could have left in the summer but who remains is Andre Onana Andre Onana has been warned by Ruben Amorim that his place as Manchester United's No.1 is under threat. Onana had a nightmare campaign at Old Trafford following his £47.2million arrival from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023 and the Reds would have sold the Cameroon international if they had found a buyer to pay £35million. United have been forced to put their hunt for a new shot-stopper on hold - and 29-year-old Onana will start United's opening game against Arsenal after recovering from a hamstring injury. But boss Amorim said: 'Andre is like the other players. They all have to win their place, so I'm not going to say if one player is No.1. He's ready to go to the game, so let's wait. Me as a coach and the players can do better than last year - and I have full confidence in that.' It comes as the United boss was told only ONE player from his side would get into an Arsenal starting lineup. Onana has conceded a staggering 148 goals in his two seasons in Manchester. In 72 Premier League appearances he has been beaten 102 times. Amorim had hoped United's board would sanction a move for a new keeper this summer after dropping Onana during a dodgy spell in April that culminated in a horror show in the Europa League draw at Lyon. But it was decided that other areas of Amorim's team needed improving first - and the club have lavished £210million on forwards Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo. Turkish international Altay Bayindir has also failed to impress, prompting United to hand 39-year-old veteran Tom Heaton a one-year contract extension.
