Will Robert Woods start opposite DK Metcalf — what can Steelers fans expect in 2025?
Days after the Steelers completed a run-defense-oriented 2025 NFL Draft, Pittsburgh added former Super Bowl champion Robert Woods. With 12 years of NFL experience — and several concerns surrounding the current state of the Steelers' offense — what can fans expect from the veteran wideout in 2025?
Mike Williams re-run?
At 33 years old, Woods is at the tail end of what has been a great career — but the Steelers proved last season how much they value veteran receivers on offense. Mike Williams, a 30-year-old veteran WR whom Pittsburgh acquired ahead of the 2024 trade deadline from the Jets, shined bright in his Steelers debut — catching a game-winning TD from Russell Wilson. But after that, he sparingly saw snaps and targets — catching just nine balls total for Pittsburgh all season. Clearly, the Steelers undervalued and underappreciated Williams' presence on offense — but Woods' situation could be different, even though he's three years older.
Career resurgence in the Steel City
Back in 2024, Woods was buried behind talented receivers on the Houston Texans roster — including Nico Collins, Stefon Diggs, Tank Dell, and John Metchie. He played just 37% of snaps — despite 2023 being a solid year for the veteran. Aside from Diggs, Woods was with the same receivers two years ago — but had a more active role in the offense. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Woods averaged 2.6 yards of separation in 2023 — tied with Davante Adams, and ahead of DK Metcalf's, Garrett Wilson's, George Pickens's, and A.J. Brown's 2.5-yard averages. Even at 31 years old, Woods was getting open and proved he could be a viable addition to any offense — he just needed a chance.
Putting it all together
While it would be silly to compare Woods' 2025 potential to that of a top-20 WR in the league, he should still contribute more than Williams did last season. Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson are likely competing for slot receiver snaps — leaving the door open for Woods to go almost unchallenged for the other outside WR role opposite Metcalf.
His veteran presence will speak volumes for a Steelers organization trying to move past its tendency to draft and trade for diva-esque receivers — but the overall ceiling of his production will likely depend on who's under center in 2025. If Aaron Rodgers truly signs on to play with the Steelers, Woods could finish out his career on a high note — a last-ditch career resurgence for the 12-year NFL vet.

New York Liberty Remain Undefeated With Historic Win Against Washington Mystics
New York Liberty Remain Undefeated With Historic Win Against Washington Mystics originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The defending WNBA champion, New York Liberty continue to pace the league. After taking down the Washington Mystics 86-78 on Thursday night, the Liberty remain undefeated. They now sit at 8-0 on the season, tied for the best record in the WNBA with the Minnesota Lynx. Advertisement The Liberty seek to become just the fourth team in WNBA history to win back-to-back championships. While their roster consists of multiple MVP candidates, they win with a balanced attack. Their franchise's recent accomplishments also rival the best New York has to offer in the sports world. With a city that dons multiple professional teams in nearly every sport, the Liberty are the most recent to win a championship. As deep as New York sports history runs, the Liberty stand as the only team to hoist a championship trophy in more than a decade. The New York Giants are a distant second, last winning a Super Bowl in 2012. With that in mind, the Liberty's 8-0 start to this season is not only impressive, it's down right historic. As per @statmuse on X, the Liberty are the first professional New York basketball team to start a season 8-0. In the history of professional basketball (NBA, ABA, and WNBA), no team has ever gotten off to a start like the Liberty. Advertisement Statistically speaking, the Liberty are the best team in the WNBA this season on both sides of the ball. The Liberty's offense leads the league in points per game (91.1). Their defense leads the league in points allowed (72.1). And they also lead the league in field goal percentage (48.6) as well as blocks per game (5.7). Chargers returning to San Diego for pair of training camp practices
The Los Angeles Chargers will be back in San Diego for two training camp practices this summer, the team announced Thursday. The Chargers will hold the pair of practices at Torero Stadium on the University of San Diego's campus on July 22-23. Before moving to Los Angeles in 2017, the Chargers spent 56 years in San Diego, beginning in the AFL in 1961. This tenure included an AFL championship in 1963, a Super Bowl appearance in the 1994-95 season and 11 playoff wins. The team played in Los Angeles for its inaugural season in 1960. Owner Dean Spanos and the city of San Diego failed to reach an agreement on a new stadium in the city, causing Spanos to uproot the franchise and move north. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved

Steelers' Super Bowl odds improve with Aaron Rodgers coming
The Pittsburgh Steelers' futures were adjusted by many sportsbooks with Thursday's news that quarterback Aaron Rodgers has agreed to a one-year contract. While speculation has been rampant throughout the offseason that the four-time league MVP would ultimately play a 21st NFL season with the Steelers, there was still a chance Rodgers would sign elsewhere or retire. Circa Sports told Field Level Media that Pittsburgh's Super Bowl odds at the book shortened from +600 to +500 following Thursday's news, while the Steelers' odds of winning the AFC shifted from +2600 to +1800. At DraftKings, the Steelers are now being offered at +4000 to win the Super Bowl, +2000 to win the AFC and +550 to win the AFC North. Their over/under win total is 8.5 games Rodgers, 41, reportedly plans to fly to Pittsburgh to sign the contract and intends to participate in the Steelers' mandatory minicamp next week. The Steelers were the NFL team in greatest need of a quarterback and open the 2025 season against Rodgers' former team at the New York Jets on Sept. 7. Rodgers will likely start opposite Pittsburgh's Week 1 starter last season, Justin Fields, who joined the Jets in free agency. Before Rodgers' long-expected agreement, Mason Rudolph was the presumed starter for the Steelers. Rudolph returned to the Steelers after one season with the Tennessee Titans. Pittsburgh moved on from Russell Wilson, who replaced Fields seven games into the 2024 regular season, who is also projected to start in New York as a member of the Giants. Rodgers comes to Pittsburgh after two disappointing seasons with the Jets. He suffered a season-ending torn Achilles on the fourth play of the 2023 season, his first with Gang Green; the Jets then went 5-12 behind Rodgers in 2024, causing the franchise to clean house. The 10-time Pro Bowler who won a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers in 2011 had also been linked to Green Bay's division rival, the Minnesota Vikings, who instead will move forward with J.J. McCarthy under center. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved
