Orlando Pirates want a European coach as they battle for his signature.
The Bucs are wasting no time in shaping their future as head coach Jose Riveiro prepares to exit at the end of the season. The Soweto-based powerhouse has already kickstarted the search for a new leader, and the global football community is taking notice.
According to a source, the Buccaneers have been 'inundated with CVs' from coaches around the world since confirming Riveiro's departure last month. Among the front-runners generating serious buzz is French tactician Bruno Ferry, whose name is making waves both locally and internationally.
Ferry's growing influence in African football has captured the attention of multiple top-tier clubs. Currently at the helm of AS Vita Club, the former Azam FC assistant coach is making headlines for his tactical acumen and forward-thinking leadership style.
'Bruno Ferry, the former Azam FC assistant coach, is making an impressive impact as head coach of AS Vita Club. After guiding his side to victory in Stream B of the DRC league, they now await the Stream A winners for the championship clash. With CAF Champions League football also on the horizon, Ferry's success hasn't gone unnoticed – he has been offered to Orlando Pirates,' the source confirmed.
Ferry's name has also surfaced in connection with Egyptian giants Al Ahly, who are actively seeking a replacement for Marcel Koller. While Carlos Queiroz initially led the list of candidates, recent reports suggest Ferry has become a serious contender for the Cairo-based club as well.
This dual interest underlines the Frenchman's rising stock. Both Pirates and Al Ahly appear drawn to Ferry's modern coaching methods and success on the African stage.
For Pirates, this next coaching appointment will be more than just a replacement. It's a pivotal move to solidify their status as a dominant force in South African and continental football. Ferry's coaching philosophy reportedly aligns well with the club's ambitions for sustained success.
Whether he ends up at Orlando Pirates, Al Ahly, or another top African club, one thing is certain: Bruno Ferry is one of the hottest coaching prospects on the continent right now.
Stay tuned with The South African as Orlando Pirates want a European head coach.
Do you think Ferry will choose Pirates over Al Ahly?

Sundowns' Maema tight-lipped on future after making CWC squad
'I'm not going to mention anything about my future at the club because I'm still a Sundowns player,' said Maema. Neo Maema of Mamelodi Sundowns during the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 departure at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, on 08 June 2025 ©Phakamisa Lensman/BackpagePix Neo Maema has remained tight-lipped about his future after being named in Mamelodi Sundowns' final squad for the Fifa Club World Cup. The skilful midfielder endured a tough 2024/25 season, struggling for regular game time, with strong speculation suggesting he could be on his way out of the Chloorkop-based outfit. The former Bloemfontein Celtic star is believed to have just one year left on his current deal, having joined the Brazilians on a five-year contract in 2021. Maema featured in only seven Betway Premiership matches during the campaign after falling down the pecking order in the star-studded squad. Notably, Thapelo Maseko and Terrence Mashego are the two most high-profile absentees from the travelling party heading to the United States for the global showpiece. Sundowns have been drawn in Group F alongside Ulsan HD, Borussia Dortmund, and Fluminense. 'I always knew that I would make the squad and it's not about being arrogant but I feel that this is the work of the players that have been here two years ago when we qualified for the Club World Cup' Maema said. 'When you're still at the team, you just have to eat the fruits of the work that you put in. I'm happy that I made the squad and obviously it's disappointing for the ones that didn't make it but there's competition. 'This is a big club but I feel for them because they are my brothers but I'm also looking forward to the experience of the club world cup. I'm not going to mention anything about my future at the club because I'm still a Sundowns player.' Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has already laid down the challenge for the side to reach the last 16 of the expanded 32-team tournament. Maema is also eager to make an impression on the world stage and prove his worth in a tournament that could shape the next chapter of many of the Sundowns players. 'We had a couple of days off to recuperate to make sure that we gather our thoughts and just look forward because this is another adventure,' Maema concluded. ALSO READ: Williams targeting a place in the knockout phase at club world cup 'It's a new experience and we're playing against the best clubs around the world so we are looking forward to it. Kaizer Chiefs R20m short of signing Nabi's dream striker!
Kaizer Chiefs were reportedly feeling confident that a deal can be struck to sign Fiston Mayele for next season. Mayele has been the top target for coach Nasreddine Nabi, who's made it no secret that he wants him at Chiefs. The two have a long standing working relationship together, having formed a bond while Yanga SC. It was therefore, no surprise they were linked with a reunion at Chiefs last season. While at the Tanzanian giants, Nabi relied on Mayele as his top striker and the DRC international duly obliged. Furthermore, they went on to win a double treble together, also reaching the CAF Confederation Cup final. After the 2022/23 season, both parties left Timu Ya Wananchi and went their separate ways. Despite both being linked with Chiefs, Nabi ended up at Moroccan side AS FAR while Mayele signed for Pyramids FC. While the Tunisian eventually joined the Amakhosi set up the next season, the goal poacher stayed put in Egypt. He did so to good effect too, having won the CAF Champions League for the first time in his career. It was also the first time the young Egyptian side had won the crown. But on Nabi's side, despite winning the Nedbank Cup, his Chiefs side finished outside the top eight. He then further emphasised the lack of fire power upfront. It is no secret that Mayele is the target but according to Soccer-Laduma , he may be too expensive. 'The only way Mayele can join Kaizer Chiefs is if the player himself wants to reunite with coach Nasreddine Nabi. It won't be because of money. Pyramids FC are offering him enough money to stay at the club or sell him to a club that can offer more money than Kaizer Chiefs. Chiefs are believed to be offering around a R5 million signing on fee to be spread in three seasons and a monthly salary of between R1 million and up to R1.5 million. So it's kind of difficult for Chiefs to sign him if it's all about money only. Unless the player himself loves to come and play for the club,' said the source. That would would add up to about R53 million. Still R21 million short of the reported R74 million Pyramids are reportedly offering to extend Mayele's deal for two-years. Should Chiefs throw in the towel? Or keep pushing Nabi to convince the striker to take a pay cut for the project? Let us know by clicking on the comment tab. Underworld plots a Durban July heist
A big race final log has been unveiled amid a scramble for places. Bowlers take great delight in hurling surprise bouncers at batters who appear settled at the crease. Jolt them out of a comfort zone is the idea. Racehorse trainer Justin Snaith did something of the sort this week when he made four-year-old Underworld a supplementary entry for the Hollywoodbets Durban July, to be run at Greyville next month. Underworld wasn't among the 61 first nominations, or a late addition at the first supplementary stage of South Africa's premier horse race. Indeed, Snaith watchers had more than enough to keep them busy with a dozen or so of his July aspirants, including a clutch of them near the top of the betting boards. Then Underworld ran in the Grade 3 1800m Dolphins Cup Trial at Greyville this past weekend and did fairly well – as he should have as a 3-1 favourite. He finished a close runner up to 40-1 roughie Madison Valley, with 14-1 chance On My Honour just behind in third place. Here's the thing: Madison Valley and On My Honour were both Durban July entrants and the surprise Cup Trial result, along with a slew of scratchings at second declaration stage, saw them catapulted into the final July log announced on Tuesday. Neither had featured among the 20 'most favoured' entries of a few weeks earlier. Underworld gave 2kg and 1.5kg respectively to his adversaries in the Cup Trial, but the distance and venue were a good pre-July test and indicated that Snaith's charge might not be wildly outclassed in the big race. Shaking things up The bottom rungs of the Durban July ladder are always hotly contested spaces but connections of horses that make it into 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th on the final log can generally start planning their outfits for the parade ring at Greyville on the first Saturday of the seventh month. Comfort zone; but here comes the bouncer. Based on his merit rating of 108, Underworld has no chance of trumping Madison Valley (115) and On My Honour (116) in the minds of the July selection panel. But Snaith is fond of a mischievous argument and a dig at the official handicappers. One of the horses on those lower rungs of the new July log is My Best Shot in 17th spot. No-one can remember when last there was an Eastern Cape-based runner in the July and many would be delighted to see Alan Greeff saddle up his star three-year-old for the big race – and Snaith wouldn't be a popular chap if his Underworld nixed the country cousin. Merit rating adjustments following the weekend's hectic pre-July action saw Oriental Charm and Gladatorian both hiked to 127, which means they will share the July's top burden of 60kg with See It Again – when weights are concluded next week. Cape Town Met champion Eight On Eighteen – who wasn't in action at the weekend – still tops the final log with his MR of 129. The race conditions stipulate that, as a three-year-old, he cannot carry more than 57kg. The log indicates that there is unlikely to be a female horse in the 2025 July. Three fillies are on the 'next best' list, but they will only come into contention for a place in the field if there are scratchings aplenty in the coming week.
