Bun Noodle With Peanut Sauce, A Delicious Draw In Tapah Road

TAPAH, April 23 (Bernama) -- Despite the price hike, a food stall in Kampung Haji Hassan, Tapah Road here, is selling peanut sauce bun noodles for only RM1.50 a plate.
Maintaining a recipe that has been passed down from generation to generation for over 80 years, the 'Yeop Din' stall has become a popular destination for residents around the Tapah parliamentary constituency in Perak, who want to taste the delicious food at an affordable price.
Stall owner Suriati Shairi, 41, said she has been selling peanut sauce bun noodles for RM1 since 2003, but raised the price by 50 sen in the past two weeks.
'Many are surprised by this price and question whether I can make a profit? Alhamdulillah, my sustenance is always sufficient. I can also send my eldest son to Universiti Malaysia Terengganu,' she told Bernama.
According to Suriati, the preparation of the ingredients to make the bun noodles is not complicated because it only uses noodles, peanuts, oil and soy sauce, but the uniqueness of the menu lies in the two main ingredients, namely bun noodles and peanut sauce.
She said that the bun noodles were specially ordered from Teluk Intan, blended using a traditional method that produces a chewy and smooth texture.
"We used to make this bun noodles ourselves, but due to time and labour constraints, we bought it even though it tasted a little different, but the main secret of this dish is our special peanut sauce. When (peanut sauce) is mixed with the boiled and fried bun noodles, the taste is extraordinary," she said.
Suriati said the bun noodles recipe came from her husband's grandmother, the late Ramlah Hassan, who was also the daughter of one of the early settlers of Kampung Haji Hassan.
According to her, around the 1940s, Ramlah sold the food, which was considered fast food because it was quick to prepare and easy to enjoy.

Lin was speaking after US President Donald Trump said that a trade agreement that would include Chinese supplies of magnets and critical rare earth minerals had almost been finalised. Lin said China hoped that the two sides could work together to implement the consensus agreed in London. Trump announced an agreement on Wednesday on his Truth Social platform. "Our deal with China is done, subject to final approval with President Xi and me," Trump posted after US and Chinese negotiating teams wrapped up two days of talks in London. "Full magnets, and any necessary rare earths, will be supplied, up front, by China. Likewise, we will provide to China what was agreed to, including Chinese students using our colleges and universities (which has always been good with me!)," he posted. Trump also said there had been a deal on tariffs, with US tariffs on imports from China at 55 per cent and Chinese reciprocal tariffs at 10 per cent. Following talks in London on Monday and Tuesday, delegates said they planned to implement the consensus agreed in Geneva in mid-May, where agreement was reached to cut import tariffs by 115 percentage points on both sides for a period of 90 days. GEORGE TOWN: The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has received 328 million e-invoices from taxpayers as of yesterday, since the system was launched in August 2024. LHDN tax operations department director (e-Invoice division) Dr Rasyidah Che Rosli said nearly 35,000 taxpayers had submitted e-invoices, including many who had adopted the system voluntarily ahead of their respective mandatory phases. "This is a positive response from taxpayers under the first phase, as well as those in the second and third phases who have implemented e-invoicing voluntarily. "The digital records via the e-Invoice system help prevent the loss or misplacement of documentation and will, in future, be integrated directly into taxpayers' return forms for greater efficiency and accuracy," she told reporters at the CTOS SME Biz Day 2025 Penang, held at the Setia Spice Convention Centre here today. The event was officiated by Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo, and was attended by more than 1,300 participants, including government representatives, industry experts and corporate leaders. Meanwhile, Rasyidah said LHDN had granted an interim six-month relaxation period for each implementation phase involving taxpayers who are issuing consolidated e-invoices. She said the board was also supporting taxpayers during the transition by providing guidelines and frequently asked questions on its e-Invoice microsite. "LHDN also provides a transmission mechanism through an application programming interface (API) integrated with MyInvois, which allows taxpayers to either develop their own system or use the services of technology providers," she added. Taxpayers may also submit their e-invoices via the MyInvois portal free of charge, and are encouraged to refer to the LHDN e-Invoice microsite for further guidance. The e-Invoice system was implemented on Aug 1, 2024, for companies with annual sales exceeding RM100 million. The second phase began on Jan 1, 2025, for companies with annual sales between RM25 million and RM100 million. On June 5, LHDN announced that taxpayers with income or annual sales below RM500,000 would be exempted from the e-Invoice requirement for now. Implementation has been postponed to Jan 1, 2026, for those with earnings between RM1 million and RM5 million, while those with income up to RM1 million will begin on July 1, 2026.

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit continued to strengthen against the US dollar on Thursday, buoyed by a softer US Dollar Index (DXY), which declined by 0.25 per cent to 98.386 points. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said the drop followed news that US President Donald Trump's administration plans to issue letters regarding its tariff decisions within the next two weeks. At 6pm, the local unit advanced to 4.2155/2245 against the greenback, from Wednesday's close of 4.2345/2370. He said the announcement has fuelled further uncertainty over the outcome of the ongoing trade negotiations. "Whatever the case may be, the 10 per cent universal tariff is likely to exert pressure on the US economy and risks of retaliation from other nations across the globe would accentuate the downside risks to global growth," he told Bernama. Emerging market currencies, including the ringgit, are benefiting from the current trend. Next week's Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting on June 17-18 will be closely monitored by the market participants, he said. At the close, the ringgit traded lower against a basket of major currencies. It fell against the Japanese yen to 2.9329/9394 from 2.9187/9207, weakened versus the British pound to 5.7213/7335 from 5.7166/7200 and fell vis-à-vis the euro to 4.8765/8869 from 4.8426/8454 previously. At the same time, the local currency traded mixed against its Asean peers, rising vis-à-vis the Philippine peso to 7.55/7.57 from 7.57/7.59 and rising against the Indonesian rupiah to 259.5/260.2 from 260.4/260.6. However, the ringgit fell versus the Singapore dollar to 3.2934/3006 from 3.2925/2947 at yesterday's close and declined against the Thai baht to 12.9828/13.0173 from 12.9729/9870 yesterday.
