PTx Trimble upgrades auto-guidance system with more accuracy
There is something of an arms race going on between the major names in the business and while we might reasonably assume that it is all for the benefit of an efficient agricultural system, it can be difficult to keep up at times.
PTx Trimble, 85% owned by AGCO, is the latest to add to the mix with news of a significant upgrade to its premier auto-guidance system, which is now the NAV-960, having displaced its predecessor, the NAV-900.
Brazilian launch for Nav-960
The news was released at the Agrishow in San Paulo, Brazil and it is shown fitted to a Brazilian-made Valtra tractor.
PTx Trimble claims that the new technology improves positioning accuracy and delivers greater computing power to handle present and future field operations.
The NAV-960 comes in a newly designed casing with anti-vibration mounting
It is said to offer both internal and external enhancements to improve positioning and accuracy for a variety of tasks across any size farming operation.
It has a new cast aluminium base which is built to withstand the tough farming environments, including excessive heat, freezing cold, driving rain, persistent dust and vibration.
The additional processing power of the upgraded CPU ensures compatibility and readiness for fieldwork today, and into the future.
Reading the heavens
Other new features in this latest receiver include an enhanced GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) engine to track more satellites than ever before, and with over 100 satnav satellites plus regional and augmentation satellites up there, it has a wide choice.
Within the firmware there are Trimple ProPoint and IonoGuard which are said to improve accuracy and protect against signal disturbance within the Ionosphere caused by solar events and scintillation.
Extra processing power allows for quicker and more responsive operation in the field
At the heart of the receiver lies a quad core processor providing faster calculations and improved data delivery speeds which, when coupled with onboard Wi-Fi and bluetooth, will make the NAV-960 easier to support for service teams.
As part of the company's commitment to its retrofit-first, mixed-fleet strategy, the NAV-960 is fully compatible with all GFX series displays including the GFX-350, -1060 and -1260 models.

The midfielder is being represented by Belgian lawyer Jean-Louis Dupont, who won the 1995 case involving Jean-Marc Bosman - the Bosman ruling - and is representing Diarra. Should the likes of Fabio Vieira, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Leandro Trossard, Jakub Kiwior, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Reiss Nelson exit for their market value, it could take their outgoings to well over £100m. Trossard has just signed an improved contract with the club - but the fact it wasn't an extension to his current terms show he isn't considered a long-term solution. In arguing why their sales have not been as big as their rivals, boss Mikel Arteta can point to several factors. When he first took over in December 2019, he inherited a bloated squad full of ageing stars on big wages, forcing the club to take action by accepting the financial hit, ripping up contracts for free transfers to welcome younger, hungrier, more cost-effective players in their bold and risky recruitment strategy in a desperate attempt to fix the culture at the club. In an ideal world, they would have earned some money back on the departures of big hitters Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil, David Luiz and Alexandre Lacazette, instead of allowing them to leave for nothing. And as a result of this, young academy stars like Saka, Smith Rowe, Nelson, Nketiah and Balogun were relied on and trusted in the first team far more than the likes of Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea – who have made a habit of selling their homegrown talents for big profits, able to do so because of the size and quality of their squads. Advertisement 7 City collected £42.5m from Chelsea for Cole Palmer in 2023, while the Blues let go of Mason Mount, Ian Maatsen, Conor Gallagher, Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori and Lewis Hall for a combined total of around £230m. This summer alone, Reds teenager Ben Doak has joined Bournemouth in a deal worth up to £25m and Jarell Quansah left for Bayer Leverkusen in a move worth £35m including add-ons, and who can forget Raheem Sterling leaving for City in 2015 for around £50m. Arteta's squad now looks complete with an impressively impactful bench to match the starting XI, yet that was not always the case, hence why ineffective squad players have previously been held on to instead of sold. Arsenal currently have big names in their squad that could be sold for big profits. William Saliba is wanted by Real Madrid. Gabriel was approached by the Saudi giants. Advertisement Teenage starlets Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly were monitored before signing new bumper deals, while Max Dowman's worth is only rising despite being just 15. In their bid to finally end their 21-year wait for a Prem title, Arteta and Arsenal are in no position to cash in on their most prized assets just yet. RODRYGO Real Madrid star Rodrygo has been linked with Arsenal for most of the window. However, he has been short on minutes in the Spanish capital and actually scored less league goals that Martinelli last term. That said, Arsenal have picked up players hiding in the shadows of La Liga's superteams before and had great success. Gordon has become a crucial part of Newcastle's rebuild under manager Eddie Howe but could be ready to take the next step in his career. The England international hasn't been in the greatest patch of form recently and new surroundings could be exactly what he needs. Advertisement However, the chances of Newcastle letting Gordon go are very low given the likelihood that they will already be waving goodbye to star man Alexander Isak before the window closes. 8 ADEMOLA LOOKMAN Arsenal were first linked with Ademola Lookman last summer and the winger has been exceptional for Atlanta since. His exit from the Serie A club looks likely, with the 27-year-old submitting a transfer request earlier in the window to try and force through a move to Inter Milan. Reports now claim that Inter have walked away from the deal after Atalanta rejected their £38m bid, potentially opening the door for Arsenal to swoop in. Advertisement Lookman has previous Premier League appearances from his brief spells with Leicester City, Fulham and Everton. 8 RAFAEL LEAO Rafael Leao has become one of the most consistent top performers in Serie A over the past five years. His versatility would mean that he could play anywhere across the front three for Arsenal and would offer even more depth to Arteta's side. He's still tied down to a contract with AC Milan until 2028 and so won't be a cheap option if the Gunners try to make a move. Advertisement But with Milan out of Europe altogether this season, the temptation of Champions League football could potentially turn Leao's head. 8 BRADLEY BARCOLA Admittedly this one seems unlikely, but if Arsenal can raise over £100m from player sales then it could tee them up for a marquee signing. Barcola, 22, is one of the most highly-rated wingers in Europe at the moment, having a hand in seven of PSG's goals on their journey to Champions League glory last season. And while a switch to Arsenal may not seem realistic, Barcola would be given the chance to be one of the stars in North London, rather than staying in the shadows of Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia in Paris. But if Arsenal could get their hands on one of Europe's best gems it would go a long way in finally getting them over the line for a league title. 8
