On Tuesday, gold and silver settled on a weaker note in the domestic and international markets. Gold August futures contract settled at Rs 97,211 per 10 grams with a loss of 0.58% and silver September futures contract settled at Rs 1,11,486 per kilogram with a loss of 1.28%.
Gold and silver extended their fall in a highly volatile session after hotter U.S. inflation data and strength in the dollar index.
The U.S. CPI rose 0.3% in June against 0.1% in May, and CPI on a yearly basis came up at 2.7% against 2.4% in May. Annual core inflation rose to 2.9% in June month up from 2.8% in May. Hotter U.S. inflation data fades chances for early interest rate cuts by the U.S. Fed and intensifies selling in precious metals.
Live Events
Following the data, US President Donald Trump said that consumer prices were low and the U.S. Fed should bring down interest rates now. U.S. central bank will probably need to leave interest rates where they are for a while longer to ensure inflation stays low in the face of upward pressure from the Trump administration's tariffs, Dallas Fed Bank President Logan said.
'The dollar index hit a 3-week high and crossed 98 levels once again, and also pushed gold and
silver prices
lower. However, uncertainty in the global financial markets due to higher trade tariffs could support prices at lower levels,' said Manoj Kumar Jain of Prithvifinmart Commodity Research.
Today, the US Dollar Index, DXY, was hovering near the 98.57 mark, falling 0.05 or 0.05%.
'We expect gold and silver prices to remain volatile this week amid volatility in the global financial markets and U.S. trade tariff uncertainty, and gold prices could hold their support level of $3,280 per troy ounce and silver prices could also hold $36.40 per troy ounce levels on a weekly closing basis,' he added.
How to trade gold?
Manoj Kumar Jain suggested the following ranges for gold and silver on MCX:
Gold
has support at Rs 96,950-96,600 and resistance at Rs 97,440-97,770
Silver
has support at Rs 1,10,500-1,09,700 and resistance at Rs 1,12,200-1,13,000
Jain suggests traders avoid long positions in gold and silver in today's session ahead of the U.S. PPI and core PPI data, but investors can accumulate in the dips.

Andhra Pradesh government to issue zero fare bus tickets for women from August 15
Vijayawada: The state govt decided to issue 'zero fare tickets' to women starting from August 15. In a review meeting with the officials of the Public Transport Department (PTD) and Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday directed that the tickets issued must include the details of the route they are travelling, distance covered, the amount of money saved with the free bus travel scheme, and the subsidy given by the state govt. Naidu said that the women passengers should be provided with the details of the benefits they are receiving. He asked the officials to develop software for this purpose. Naidu also discussed the financial implications of the scheme on APSRTC and instructed the officials to look for alternative revenue generation sources as well as the reduction of maintenance costs. He told the officials to be ready to handle any kind of issues that may arise after the launch of the scheme. He instructed them to study the issues that arose in other states when a similar scheme was launched. The chief minister suggested the officials to prepare advanced estimates on cost implications because of the scheme and ensure that the free bus service to women does not become a burden for the APSRTC. He said that all the new buses to be inducted into the fleet should be air-conditioned electric buses and directed the APSRTC officials to develop the necessary infrastructure for the maintenance and charging of electric buses. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo He told them to generate power through solar and other renewable sources to become self-sufficient, which would largely reduce operating costs. Naidu suggested developing charging infrastructure across the state in APSRTC properties not only for in-house usage but also as a revenue-generating model. Free bus travel for women is one of the promises made by the NDA in the run-up to the elections. After coming to power, the NDA govt took a cautious approach in launching the scheme in view of the experiences in other states and the financial situation of the APSRTC and the state at large.

Chandigarh MC accelerates bioremediation to clear legacy waste
Chandigarh: The municipal corporation, Chandigarh, nears the completion of bioremediation of the third and final legacy waste dump at the Dadumajra dumpsite, as the civic body on Monday claimed to have processed 70-75% of the waste. The MC stated that, despite challenges, the project was accelerated with a 15 to 20-fold increase in deployed machinery and manpower. Since Chandigarh failed to achieve the 7-star ranking even after applying in this specific category for Swachh Survekshan and received just a 3-star rating under the Garbage Free City (GFC) category, the piled-up final or third legacy waste at the Daddumajra dump site was found to be the prime culprit for this. Although the MC is working to remove this garbage dump and work is ongoing at the site, there was a consistent delay in the work and multiple breaches of the deadlines were witnessed in the past. While justifying its efforts in this regard, the MC on Monday said that this final or third waste mound, comprising approximately 2.40 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of legacy waste, is being cleared with support from two major public sector undertakings (PSUs) and the existing agency, operating in two dedicated shifts to ensure rapid progress. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The completion of this bioremediation effort marks the end of landfill dependency for Chandigarh, a transformative step towards sustainable urban living. "As per the report of July 21 (Monday) till 5 pm, only 59,000 metric tonnes of legacy waste remain to be processed in the final dump," the MC claimed through an official release. Box: There were a total of three major dumps of legacy waste, piled up over many decades at the Daddumajra dumping site due to the non-processing of the waste earlier. This entire exercise of removal of legacy waste started around seven years ago, and the first work to remove the first dump of the legacy waste was inaugurated by the then governor of Punjab and Chandigarh administrator, V P Singh Badnore, in Dec 2019. Telangana records impressive PCI growth of over 80% in a decade
Hyderabad: A reply to a question in Parliament on Monday revealed that Telangana is one of only three states in India to record over 80% growth in per capita income (PCI) for two consecutive years in span of over a decade at constant prices, using the base years of 2013 and 2014. Compared to 2013, Telangana achieved an impressive 84% growth in PCI by 2024 and an even higher increase of 85% by 2025 when compared to 2014. These figures indicate impressive rise in people's purchasing power in the state during the said period. Constant prices refers to value of goods and services adjusted for changes in price level over time, providing a clearer picture of real income growth as opposed to nominal increases. This adjustment allows for meaningful comparisons of income over different years without the distortion that inflation can introduce. The data provided in the reply indicates that, at constant prices, the PCI increased from 96,039 in 2013 to 1,77,000, and from 1,01,424 in 2014 to 1,87,912 in 2025. Rise in avg real incomes According to experts, when income is analysed at constant prices, any reported increase signifies a true enhancement in people's purchasing power, rather than an elevation solely driven by inflationary pressures. For instance, an impressive 85% increase over a decade indicates not just growth, but a substantial rise in average real incomes, reflecting a strengthening economy. PR Madhusoodanan, a distinguished professor and director at the Centre for Economics and Finance at the Administrative College of India (ASCI), emphasised on the importance of analysing per capita income at constant prices. "A reasonable and consistent growth rate in per capita income from a defined base year clearly indicates that the economy is thriving, supported by a rising Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP)," he said. "In dynamic states such as Telangana, this GSDP growth is predominantly fuelled by the booming service sector, with Hyderabad standing out as a key contributor, driving economic activities and opportunities."
