Islamic military coalition addresses extremism prevention at Riyadh forum
The event was attended by the coalition's assistant military commander, Air Force Maj. Gen. Abdullah Al-Qurashi, as well as member state representatives and coalition personnel, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Chaired by Abdullah Al-Dawah, director of monitoring and analysis at the Intellectual Affairs Department, the symposium emphasized the day's role in enhancing global efforts to combat terrorism and extremist ideology while fostering peace and tolerance.
Al-Dawah explained that the symposium serves to address the complex drivers of extremism, explore preventive measures, and highlight the crucial roles of community awareness and global cooperation.
In the first session, Yahya Abu Maghayed, director of preventive programs at the Intellectual Affairs Department, examined extremism's dynamic nature and stressed the need for increased public awareness.
He discussed factors driving its spread and indicators of violent radicalization, such as violence justification, conspiracy theory adoption, and participation in social unrest.
The second session featured Col. Malik Al-Farrayeh, Jordan's representative to the Islamic coalition, who highlighted the importance of public education on extremist ideology risks.
He emphasized that prevention begins with promoting moderate religious values while rejecting hardline ideas. Al-Farrayeh also noted the critical role of educational and media institutions in promoting tolerance and moderation.
He stressed the need for regional and international cooperation to prevent extremism from evolving into a security threat.
The event concluded with recommendations to strengthen community oversight, reinforce moderate values, and address extremism's root causes.
Participants underscored the need for coordinated international action to combat this phenomenon and protect communities from its impact.

The Kurdish YPG militia, which spearheads the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), should stop 'playing for time' and abide by its integration agreement with the Syrian government, Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Wednesday. NATO-member Turkey has been one of Syria's main foreign allies after the ousting of Bashar al-Assad last year. The SDF, which controls much of northeast Syria, signed an agreement with Damascus in March to integrate into the Syrian state apparatus. Ankara considers both the SDF and YPG as terrorist organizations. 'Turkey will not be comfortable unless its security concerns in Syria are addressed,' Fidan told a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart Asaad al-Shibani in Ankara. 'Our sole concern is that all ethnic and religious groups in Syria continue their existence without posing a threat to any country, without having armed, terrorist elements on their territory, within the unity and integrity of Syria,' Fidan said. 'A new era has begun in the region and there's a new process in Turkey. They should benefit from those positive developments,' Fidan said, referring to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militant group's decision to disband and disarm. Turkey views the YPG as a PKK extension but the YPG has previously said Ocalan's call did not apply to it, contradicting Ankara's view. The SDF has been in conflict with Turkey-backed Syrian armed groups in northern Syria for years.

Militants kill nine Pakistani soldiers in Balochistan: Govt officials
At least nine Pakistani soldiers were killed when dozens of militants staged an attack in the country's restive southwestern Balochistan province, government officials said Tuesday. The attack on Monday happened the same day the US State Department listed the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) as a foreign terrorist organization after a string of deadly assaults claimed by the group. A senior government official of Washuk district, where the assault took place, said dozens of militants attacked a police station and a border force compound. 'The army was attacked by terrorists on their way to respond. The terrorists killed nine soldiers,' he told AFP on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to the media. 'There were around 40 to 50 terrorists on motorbikes who attacked government buildings and ransacked them,' said a senior official from the province's interior department who asked not to be named, confirming to AFP that nine soldiers were killed. The officials said that six other soldiers were also wounded in the attack. A senior official from the province's interior department said the militants hurled hand grenades at the Frontier Corps compound in Basima city of Washuk district. No group has claimed the attack, but the BLA is the most active in the region. Washington had already listed the BLA under the less severe label of specially designated global terrorists, which targets financial resources, before toughening the ban on Monday. The new step comes as US President Donald Trump increases contact with Pakistan, which was kept at arm's length by his predecessor Joe Biden, whose administration resented Islamabad's role in the two-decade war in Afghanistan. Baloch separatists and rights groups say the military's heavy-handed response to the insurgency has included widespread enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings.

Saudi Arabia strongly condemns Israeli decision to fully occupy Gaza
Saudi Gazette report NEOM — The Saudi Cabinet session, chaired by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman in NEOM on Tuesday, strongly condemned the decision of the Israeli occupation authorities to fully occupy the Gaza Strip. The session also slammed Israel's continued perpetration of crimes of starvation, brutal practices, and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people. The Council of Ministers stressed that the ongoing failure of the international community and the UN Security Council to halt these attacks and violations undermines the foundations of international order and legitimacy, threatens regional and global peace and security, and portends grave consequences that could encourage genocide and forced displacement. In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency following the session, Minister of Media Salman Al-Dossary said that the Crown Prince briefed the Cabinet on his meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan. During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed the fraternal relations between their countries and discussed ways to enhance and develop them across various fields, as well as several key issues on the Arab and Islamic fronts, with particular focus on recent developments in Palestine. The Crown Prince also briefed the Cabinet on the content of his phone call with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. During the call, Abbas praised the Kingdom's steadfast support for the Palestinian people and their just cause and its efforts and honorable stances under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, saying that this has contributed to the commitment of many countries to recognize the State of Palestine. It also endorsed MoU for cooperation in social development between the governments of Saudi Arabia and Malaysia; MoU for cooperation in the logistics sector between the Saudi Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services and the Singaporean Ministry of Trade and Industry, and MoU on the development of trade relations between the Saudi General Authority of Foreign Trade and the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce. The Council approved a joint customs cooperation agreement for the mutual recognition of the Authorized Economic Operator program between the Saudi Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority and the Moroccan Administration of Customs and Indirect Taxes. It endorsed a MoU on developing non-oil exports between the Saudi Export Development Authority and the Export Agency under the Government of Tajikistan, and another MoU for cooperation in the peaceful use of outer space between the Saudi Space Agency and the Korea Aerospace Administration. Regarding amicable settlement of labor disputes, the Cabinet approved extending the working period for one year, starting from Thursday, Safar 20, 1447 AH, corresponding to August 14, 2025. This is pursuant to Paragraph A of Clause First of a previous royal decree, which stipulates that "in a labor lawsuit, it must be submitted to the Labor Office before it is filed before the Labor Court, to take the necessary measures to settle the dispute amicably."The Council also amended certain articles of the organization of the Saudi Bar Association, as stated in the decision.
