During the Rohit Sharma Stand inauguration ceremony, Rohit said, 'Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who has come here to make this event so special. What is going to happen today, I never dreamt of it. As a kid growing up, wanting to play for Mumbai, for India, no one thinks about things like these. For me, it's like any other sportsman who wants to give their best. Serve the nation, the country, as much as possible. While doing that, you try and achieve a lot of things. A lot of milestones are created, but something like this is really special. Wankhede is such an iconic stadium; there are so many memories here."
'For me to have my name amongst the greats of the game and the world's top political leaders, I cannot express what the feelings are. For that I am really, really grateful, honoured and very thankful to all MCA members and not to forget the Apex Council Member. For me to be honoured while I am playing makes it special. I have retired from two formats, but I am still playing one format. It'll be a surreal feeling when I come here and play on the 21st against the Delhi Capitals, representing Mumbai Indians. It'll be a very special feeling.'
'It will even be more special when India plays whichever team here; that'll make it even more special. To get this honour in front of my mom, dad, my brother and his wife and my wife. I am so, so grateful for all the people in my life, for all that they have sacrificed. Of course my team Mumbai Indians, are here, who are waiting for my speech to get over so they can start training."

'I still don't get it': Rohit Sharma's cryptic post keeps fans guessing

Rohit Sharma (PTI Photo) NEW DELHI: India's ODI captain Rohit Sharma sparked curiosity among fans on Wednesday with a cryptic Instagram story. He shared a picture featuring some toys and captioned it: "My girls tried explaining these to me, I still don't get it. The 38-year-old had a highly impactful second half of his Test career, amassing 4,301 runs in 67 matches, including 12 centuries and 18 fifties, at an average of 40.57. Rohit had led India to the World Test Championship final against Australia and had been at the helm during several key series — barring the recent inconsistent outings against New Zealand at home and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Despite stepping away from the Test format, Rohit will continue to represent India in ODIs. 'It's been an absolute honor to represent my country in whites,' he shared in an emotional Instagram post. 'Thank you for all the love and support over the years.' Rohit's form had dipped during the 2024–25 season, where he managed an average of just 10.93 in 11 innings across eight Tests. Overall, he concluded his Test career with 4,301 runs in 67 matches, maintaining an average of 40.57 and notching up 12 hundreds. He took over the Test captaincy from Virat Kohli in March 2022 and during his tenure led India to 12 wins, nine losses, and three draws. As skipper, he also scored 1,254 runs. 'Sad' By Kohli's Retirement, Shastri Makes Bold Captaincy Claim: 'I Would Have...'

Last Updated: Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 12. During his 14-year-long career, he made 9230 runs in 123 Tests. Former Indian men's cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri is sad about Virat Kohli's retirement from Test cricket. The former India captain, after playing 123 Tests in the last 14 years, announced his retirement from the five-day format of the game on May 12. He took to Instagram to share a post via which he confirmed the news of his exit from the traditional format of the game. Shastri, who shares a close bond with Kohli, said he feels sad that Kohli is gone and also about the manner of his departure. According to the former India all-rounder, Kohli's retirement could have been handled better, and in a video shared by Sony Liv on X, he said that if it was in his hands, he would have handed the Test captaincy to him. 'It's when you go; that's when people will realise how big a player he was. I feel sad that he's gone, the way he's gone. I think it could have been handled better, or there should have been more communication. If I had anything to do with it, I would have made him captain straight away after Australia." During his 14-year-long Test career, Kohli played 123 Tests for India and, with the help of 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries, amassed a total of 9230 runs. He finished his career as the fourth leading run getter for India. Kohli captained India in 68 Tests and won 40 matches, which is the most by any skipper. It was reported last month that Kohli was keen to become India's Test captain again, but his request was not considered by the top management, following which he decided to retire. Kohli's retirement came five days after Rohit Sharma's retirement from Test cricket. Like Kohli, Rohit also announced his retirement from Tests via an Instagram post. After Rohit and Kohli's retirement, Shubman Gill was appointed as India's new Test captain on May 24. The 25-year-old right-handed batter from Punjab will make his Test captaincy debut against England at Headingley in Leeds on June 20. India will face England in a five-match Test series under Gill's leadership. After the series opener in Leeds, the next four matches will be played in Birmingham, Lord's, Manchester, and The Oval.
