Sam Kerr's fiancée Kristie Mewis looks strained as she steps out with Matildas superstar in Perth after getting some awful news

Daily Mail5 hours ago
Football star Kristie Mewis wore a strained expression while stepping out in Perth with fiancée Sam Kerr and new son Jagger, just days after confirming her shock departure from West Ham.
The new family of three, who recently returned from a beachside holiday in Spain, made a rare public appearance together in Kerr's home town on Sunday morning.
The sporting power couple, dressed casually with their two-month-old son in a carrier, enjoyed brunch with Kerr's parents before later catching up with Matildas star Emily van Egmond.
Kerr is back in Perth for the Matildas' matches in Western Australia, with their last outing against Panama coming on Tuesday.
The Matildas skipper is not part of the Aussie squad for the four friendlies as she continues to recover from the serious knee injury she sustained in January last year.
Last week, West Ham announced that Mewis's time with the club has come to an end.
The 34-year-old joined the Hammers in 2023, but only managed four appearances during her spell with the Women's Super League club.
She had just got back into training in preparation for a return to the field before the sad news about her career became public.
Club manager Rehanne Skinner said: 'On behalf of everyone at the Club, I would like to thank Kristie for her contributions to West Ham United during her time in east London.
'Kristie has been unlucky with injuries since she joined us so probably hasn't played in the famous Claret and Blue as many times as she would have liked, but it's still been a total pleasure having someone of her calibre and experience within our team environment.
'As Kristie starts to navigate her new norm of motherhood, we fully appreciate that her priorities have changed and so, whatever the future has in store for her and her family, I would like to wish them all the very best.'
Mewis confirmed the news later with a heartfelt message on Instagram, expressing gratitude to the Hammers for the support they provided.
'Even though my time at West Ham was not what I envisioned, I still learned so much and met so many amazing people,' she said.
'Everyone, but especially my teammates were incredibly supportive through my injury and pregnancy and I can't thank them enough for it. Nothing has been more important to me than football… but having my son has changed that.
Mewis (pictured left with Kerr and van Egmond) revealed her shock at her exit from West Ham, writing that her time with the club was 'not what I envisioned'
'Thank you @westhamwomen and thank you for helping me become a mom.'
Kerr and Mewis' relationship began around 2020, gaining public attention during the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 when they shared a heartfelt moment on the field.
They officially confirmed their relationship in August 2021 through an Instagram post.
In September 2023, they got engaged, announcing it publicly in November of the same year.
Their engagement was followed by the news in November 2024 that they were expecting their first child.
They are expected to marry in December this year.

Disaster strikes for Aussie pool queen Bronte Campbell as she plans her wedding

Bronte Campbell has revealed she broke the unusual diamond engagement ring she received from fiancé Benfield Lainchbury, joking that she 'might need some help wedding planning' after the distressing incident. The winner of four Olympic gold medals in the pool, Campbell said 'the easiest yes of my life' when Lainchbury popped the question as they enjoyed a boat trip in Venice last August. She got a stunning east-west set, emerald-cut diamond on a gold band - but the ring broke recently, forcing her to get it not just repaired, but redesigned to guard against another jewellery malfunction. Campbell revealed the episode to her followers in an Instagram video in which she saw the lighter side of the disruption to her wedding planning. 'So how's the wedding planning going?' she wrote over vision of her celebrating straight after the engagement in Venice. 'Step 1: get engaged. Step 2: be completely in love with your ring. 'Step 3: break your ring. 'Step 4: get Rhys to redesign your ring based on your active lifestyle. 'Step 4: fall in love with new ring. 'To recap: 2 x rings made. O x wedding decisions made. 1 x hair colour change. 7 x months later.' The happy couple holidayed in Europe after the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, where Bronte brought home a gold medal in the women's 4 x 100m relay final for Australia. That gave her four of the priceless gold medals, but it was the new diamond that had everyone talking after her big announcement. 'What a week celebrating all that's happened and all the exciting things to come. Love you @ieldbenf. Easiest yes of my life,' Bronte captioned the post, which featured a carousel of cute couples pics, including a close-up of the ring and the moment straight after the proposal. The other two photos show her in a yellow sundress planting a kiss on her boyfriend's cheek and a beautiful garden table setting for a meal the couple enjoyed on their travels. The four-time Olympic gold medallist (pictured) said her cherished engagement band had to be re-done based on her 'active lifestyle' The engagement news was met with an outpouring of love from friends, family, and fellow athletes. 'YEAHHHHH THE POST WE ALL WANTED,' fellow Olympic swimmer Lani Pallister commented, punctuating her sentence with a crying emoji. Swimmer Shayna Jack added: 'Congratulations to you both.' Bronte and her fiancé have known each other since childhood and Benfield has been by the swimmer's side since they began dating in 2016. He played a pivotal part in the swimmer's decision to return to the pool after an 18-month break following the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Clocking up on average 19,000 strokes a week in the water was physically and mentally damaging — and her paltry $30,000 a year as a full-time athlete didn't help either. After Bronte landed a role as a senior consultant at leading accounting and professional services firm Ernst & Young just over two years ago, she felt her pool days were finally over. But after 18 months away from the sport — which allowed a 'broken' Bronte to rest her severe shoulder, neck, back and hip injuries — the lure of a fourth Games has proven to be irresistible. With the support of her partner, she began swimming again and heading down the rigorous path that has now resulted in her fourth gold medal.

Buddy Franklin makes a shock sporting comeback in one of Australia's toughest events alongside another footy legend

AFL legend Lance 'Buddy' Franklin has completed his first ever half-marathon in Queensland alongside fellow Indigenous superstar Johnathan Thurston. The former Swans forward, 38, and Cowboys playmaker, 42, competed in the Gold Coast Marathon on Saturday with thousands of other runners. The pair are part of the Indigenous Marathon Foundation (IMF) and are planning to run the iconic New York City Marathon later this year. They are hoping to raise $1million for the IMF, which supports programs that use running to drive physical and mental wellbeing, leadership, and resilience in First Nations communities. Franklin, who retired in 2023, took to Instagram following the race to post a shot of himself and Thurston holding up the Aboriginal flag. 'Bring on NY,' he wrote. Thurston said that the final stretch of the race was particularly difficult. 'There were some voices in the head in the last 3km, the body's aching - it's tough but very enjoyable,' he told News Corp. 'The knees, hamstrings, the lower back aching, the voices going just stop, but you look around and see the people running beside you, people in the street cheering you on. 'We've all got a purpose here with the Indigenous Marathon Project, so thinking about my family and the other squad members.' Franklin is excited by the challenge of running later this year in New York. 'I've done a lot of work for this, obviously playing football for 19 years and then retiring, I think it's really been great for me,' he said. 'It's been really structured and I've set aside a few hours every day to make sure I'm fit enough to get through. 'Literally every six to seven weeks there's a progression which is really good … I think with all the other guys and women doing it with the foundation it's going to be pretty cool to see the progression.' The sports stars are still very competitive, but Franklin says Thurston is the better long-distance runner. 'We've been on the WhatsApp group together and he's been updating me, and I've been pretty impressed with his running,' he said. 'He'll have me covered, there's no doubt about that.' Last month it was revealed that Franklin and his wife Jesinta are expecting their third child together. In a candid video, Jesinta shared a silhouette of herself cradling her growing baby bump while her two children, daughter Tullulah, five, and son Rocky, four, played around her. One segment showed Rocky kissing his mum's pregnant belly. 'Tullulah & Rocky are getting a baby brother or sister for Christmas. The most beautiful surprise of all,' the model captioned her post.
