Gold prices continue to fall

KARACHI: Gold prices continued to fall on Saturday, as world market declined below $3,250 per ounce, traders said.
The precious metal lost further Rs2, 300 to Rs242,200 per tola and Rs1,972 to Rs293,381 per 10 grams, according to All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewelers Association.
Domestic silver prices also dropped by Rs45 and Rs39, settling for Rs3,382 per tola and Rs2,899 per 10 grams, respectively, the association added.
It is worth noting that the open market may trade gold and silver at different prices as compared to those fixed by the association.
World market offered gold bullion at $3,240 per ounce, plunging by $23 while silver was selling at $32 per ounce, the association said.

In this connection, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is reviewing the budget proposal to amend the Eighth Schedule of the Sales Tax Act 1990. Presently, 12.5 percent sales tax is applicable on locally manufactured or assembled motorcars of cylinder capacity up to 850cc. In case FBR's proposal is approved, the FBR will delete entry number 72 of the Eighth Schedule of the Sales Tax Act 1990. FBR may allow import of 5-year-old used vehicles It is a revenue generation measure for 2025-26 as the FBR is reviewing all sales tax exemptions and lower rates to bring them at part with the standard rate of sales tax from 2025-26, officials added. The goods specified in the Eighth schedule shall be charged to tax at such rates and subject to such conditions and limitations as specified therein, Sales Tax Act 1990 added. KARACHI: The futures spread declined by 679 basis points, closing at 5.19 percent on the final trading day of the week ending May 30, 2025, compared to 11.98 percent in the previous week. Average daily volumes at future counter increased by 272 percent to 367.22 million shares, up from 98.71 million shares a week earlier.
