People across the country are celebrating Eid-al-Adha. Earlier today, people flocked in large numbers to the Ajmer Sharif Dargah to offer prayers on the occasion.
Scores of devotees thronged the historic Jama Masjid this morning to offer prayers and celebrate Eid al-Adha. Dressed in traditional attire, worshippers came together in a spirit of devotion, unity, and celebration, marking one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar.
In Mumbai, people offered Namaz at the Jama Masjid Mahim Dargah.
People also offered Namaz in several other cities, including Sambhal, Gorakhpur, Thiruvananthapuram, and Bhopal.
Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. The day is marked by prayers, charitable acts, and the ritual sacrifice of animals, with a message of sharing and empathy at its core.
Eid al-Adha is called Id-ul-Adha in Arabic and Bakr-Id in the Indian subcontinent, because of the tradition of sacrificing a goat or 'bakri'. It is a festival that is celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety in India. (ANI)

About 27,447 acres belonging to 11,785 tribal farmers in Khammam district will be developed under the Indira Solar Girijana Vikasam Scheme in the coming three years, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said. Addressing the Independence Day main function, after unfurling the national flag in Khammam on Friday, he outlined a string of initiatives to optimally harness solar power in pursuit of clean energy future. He said that 22 villages in Bonakal mandal have been selected under the Model Solar Village scheme. Plans are afoot to run solar power plants under the aegis of women self-help groups at Rajulapalem village in Yerrupalem mandal and Chinakorukondi in Kallur mandal for generating 2 MW solar energy under the Indira Mahila Shakti scheme. Works on the construction of a cable bridge across the Munneru river were under way at an estimated ₹180 crore, and medical college building works are in progress at ₹130 crore, he added. Besides, ₹2.50 crore has been sanctioned for the development of Buddhist monuments at Nelakondapalli. Proposals have been submitted by the departments concerned for sanction of ₹29 crore for the ropeway project at Khammam Fort and development of related tourist facilities. Mr. Vikramarka highlighted some of the key initiatives of the Congress government in irrigation, agriculture, road and infrastructure development spheres, besides a string of welfare schemes. Khammam MP R. Raghuram Reddy and Collector Anudeep Durishetty were also present.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for praising the RSS in his Independence Day speech, stating that the organisation doesn't have any history. Shivakumar mentioned that the Congress party has a longer history and claimed that the RSS didn't hoist the national flag for a long period. The Karnataka Deputy CM refused to comment on the issue, mentioning that the Congress party has always protected the Constitution and the country. "RSS doesn't have any history. The Congress party has a longer history in this country. We all know that they (RSS) did not hoist the national flag for a long time, and Vajpayee ji took an initiative on this issue. It is their party's agenda and I don't want to comment on it party has always protected the Constitution and the country," DK Shivakumar told ANI. In his 79th Independence Day speech from the Red Fort on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for completing 100 years of service to the nation, describing it as the "biggest NGO in the world" and praising its century-long contribution to nation-building. "Today, I would like to proudly mention that 100 years ago, an organisation was born - Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). 100 years of service to the nation is a proud, golden chapter. With the resolve of 'vyakti nirman se rashtra nirman', with the aim of the welfare of Maa Bharati, swayamsevaks dedicated their lives to the welfare of our motherland. The photograph sparked widespread outrage among Sikh groups and political critics, with Sirsa using it as a powerful symbol of Congress's unresolved past. 'For Congress, the killing of thousands of Sikhs in 1984 is not a blot it's a badge they wear with pride. Rahul Gandhi standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Jagdish Tytler is like Hitler posing with Heinrich Himmler the mastermind of the Holocaust. Just as Hitler stood by his mass murderers to send a message that they were his own, Rahul Gandhi standing alongside Jagdish Tytler sends the same message: no matter the past, they remain his own,' Sirsa wrote on X. Sirsa's statement comes amid ongoing legal proceedings against Jagdish Tytler, who is accused of leading a mob during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots that resulted in the brutal killing and burning of three Sikh men. The case is currently being heard in a Delhi court, where a crucial piece of evidence — a sting operation video — was recently submitted. Senior Advocate H.S. Phoolka, representing the victims, stated in a previous hearing that the video, recorded in 2012, allegedly features Tytler boasting about having killed 100 Sikhs. The CD was reportedly handed over to the CBI by former Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) President Manjit Singh GK. The 1984 anti-Sikh riots, which happened after the assassination of Indira Gandhi, then prime minister, led to the deaths of over 3,000 Sikhs across the country. The worst violence had been reported in Delhi at that time. Tytler has long been in the eye of storm due to the case. Demands had been raised for accountability and justice from the Sikh community. Sirsa's strong reaction has underlined the emotional and political weight the 1984 riots continue to carry, especially for the Sikh community.
