Atlanta rapper Ca$h Out sentenced to life for trafficking, rape, and rico conviction

Atlanta rapper Ca$h Out, whose real name is John-Michael Gibson, has been sentenced to life in prison, plus 70 additional years, after being convicted on multiple charges, including rape and racketeering. According to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office, Gibson was found guilty on July 18, 2025, of leading a prostitution ring and violating Georgia's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. The charges against Gibson also included aggravated sodomy, two counts of trafficking persons for sexual servitude, pimping, pandering, battery, possession of a firearm during a felony, and maintaining a place of prostitution. He was acquitted on a single count of felony aggravated assault, his defense attorney Careton R. Matthews confirmed. The rapper, known for his early 2010s hits 'Cashin' Out' and 'She Twerkin,' had been on trial since June 2 in Fulton County Superior Court before Judge Melynee Leftridge. During the proceedings, Matthews argued that the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence and claimed the testimony of several accusers was inconsistent and unreliable. Gibson's co-defendants included his mother, Linda Smith, and associate Tyrone Taylor, both of whom were also convicted. Smith received a 30-year sentence, while Taylor was sentenced to life plus 70 years. Prosecutors told the jury that the group operated a criminal enterprise using deception and coercion to recruit and exploit women. Judge Leftridge, before handing down the sentences, stated that the evidence showed 'the very worst of human behavior toward other human beings,' according to WXIA-TV. Matthews said his client continues to maintain his innocence and may pursue an appeal or request a new trial. Gibson rose to fame in 2011 after signing with Epic Records and reaching No. 36 on the Billboard Hot 100 with 'Cashin' Out.'

Former child star Sophie Nyweide's death certificate adds to devastation amid ongoing investigation

Sophie Nyweide, the 24-year-old former child actress known for her roles in Mammoth and An Invisible Sign, passed away on April 14 in Bennington, Vermont, under tragic and mysterious circumstances. While an autopsy has been conducted, the exact cause of her death remains uncertain, though authorities are investigating the possibility of an accidental drug overdose. A recent development has added another layer of heartbreak to the already devastating story. According to the death certificate obtained by TMZ, Nyweide was pregnant at the time of her passing. This revelation has shocked her family and fans alike, as they process the tragic loss of the young actress who had struggled with personal challenges in recent years. Nyweide's mother, Shelly Gibson, discussed her daughter's battles with addiction and past trauma. She revealed in interviews that Sophie had been using drugs for some time and had attended multiple treatment centers during her youth. Gibson speculates that an accidental overdose may have contributed to Nyweide's untimely death, but she had no confirmation until toxicology reports are complete. 'I am aware she was using drugs. She had been for quite a while,' Gibson shared. Police in Bennington have not ruled out foul play, and the investigation continues. Nyweide's body was found near a high school, and authorities revealed that a man was present at the time of her death. The man is cooperating with the investigation, though he is not considered a suspect. The news of Nyweide's pregnancy, along with the ongoing investigation, has left her family in mourning. Shelly Gibson fondly recalled her daughter as an adventurous spirit, a talented young actress, and a kind-hearted person who faced her struggles privately. "Her life was a lot more than just those few years of doing movies," Gibson said. Despite the challenges, Nyweide's family continues to honor her memory, encouraging donations to RAINN, a charity dedicated to supporting survivors of sexual violence, which Nyweide's mother has supported for years.
