Tirupati: The Ramakrishna Mission Ashram in Tirupati was filled with spiritual fervour on Sunday as it hosted the 'Vidyarthi Vrata Homa' as part of the ongoing 'Samskara Sibiram 2025'. The event aimed to instill discipline, moral values, and academic excellence among participating students.
Students performed the Homa ritual with sacred chants and offerings of 'Bilva' leaves into the holy fire, invoking blessings for educational success, physical well-being, truthfulness, and disciplined living. In a symbolic gesture of commitment, the students took five solemn pledges focusing on honesty, good conduct, and self-discipline. They also participated in concluding oaths that emphasised the development of character and civic responsibility.
Swami Sukritananda, the secretary of the Ashram, addressed the gathering, highlighting the Ashram's mission to nurture students into responsible citizens. 'We conduct this homa to promote values such as truthful speech, good education, and physical fitness,' he said. He further added that students are being introduced to disciplines such as yoga, devotion, martial arts (karra samu), and archery. 'These training sessions will empower students to make wise choices for a better future,' he noted with optimism.
The event was organised under the guidance of Samskara Sibiram coordinator Swami Satyasthananda. Other contributors included Swami Hari Krupananda, Swami Vishwarajananda, and volunteers Geeta, Himabindu, and Sudhakar among others.

Followers, numismatists hail Govt of India's decision to issue a coin on Ramana Maharishi

Sri Ramana Maharishi was a great Indian sage known for his profound teachings on self-inquiry and inner realisation through the simple question, 'Who am I?',' writes S Navaneethan Ramanujam in his blog on Numismatics collections. Published on May 15, this blog details the Government of India's move to issue a `100 commemorative coin marking the centenary year of his ashram — Sri Ramanasramam in Tiruvannamalai. Navaneethan says, 'The Ashram has applied for the coin under the currency division, Department of Economics of the Ministry of Finance. But it got delayed for two years — maybe the approval process took time, or the proponent might have made the payment late.' Ramana Maharishi was well known for his spiritual journey and preached that individuals turn their attention inwards and find the true self, beyond one's body and mind. 'Maharishi was a pure soul. A coin in his remembrance is actually a proud moment for Tamilians as the Government of India is honouring a Tamilian's sage life and the spiritual path he followed,' shares IAS aspirant, Nandhini Siva, a follower of this philosopher.

Traditional values take centre stage at Ramakrishna Mission camp

Tirupati: SVIMS Director cum Vice Chancellor Dr RV Kumar praised the services of Ramakrishna Mission Ashram saying that at a time when joint families and temple traditions are gradually fading, it has taken up the responsibility of nurturing those values. He was speaking as the chief guest at the valedictory session of the 'Samskara Shibiram 2025' conducted by the ashram on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kumar noted that the COVID-19 pandemic had brought humanity to a point of uncertainty, with many fearing for the future of a country with limited infrastructure. However, he emphasized that it was India's ancient practices and Sanatana Dharma that helped the country withstand the crisis. The world is now recognising and following the age-old Indian values. 'It is the responsibility of parents to raise children as responsible citizens who contribute to the nation's progress,' he said, Guest of honour Dr P Murali Krishna, retired principal of SV Ayurvedic College, quoted Swami Vivekananda, stating, 'The history of the world is the history of men who had faith in themselves.' He stressed the need for education that nurtures character rather than merely producing money-making machines. In his presidential address, Swami Sukritananda, Secretary of the Ashram, said that parents and teachers are embodiments of the Divine. He encouraged students to grow independently and strive towards their goals, saying that the camp was a small step towards that larger aim. Students who showcased their talents during the camp were felicitated with prizes. Swami Satvasthananda, Assistant Secretary of the Ashram, Sudhakar Reddy and others took part. In a moving gesture prior to the meeting, students washed the feet of their parents, chanted Vedic hymns, and offered floral tributes as a mark of reverence.
