AWS outage? Spotify, Vimeo, Snapchat, and FuboTV all down in US
Spotify, Vimeo, Snapchat, FuboTV, UPS, Rocket League, Discord, Etsy, and Character AI are among the major services currently experiencing outages across the United States. While the exact cause has not been confirmed, data from DownDetector shows that Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and Cloudflare are all experiencing disruptions. Since many of the affected platforms rely on one or more of these cloud providers, the outages are likely connected.

At 3:09 p.m., Google provided an update on its status page: "Our engineers are continuing to mitigate the issue and we have confirmation that the issue is recovered in some locations. We do not have an ETA on full mitigation at this point."
According to DownDetector, reports of issues with Google Cloud spiked around 2:00 p.m.

Cloudflare, which provides infrastructure and hosting services for numerous websites and apps, reported Thursday afternoon: "We are seeing a number of services suffer intermittent failures. We are continuing to Investigate this and we will update this list as we assess the impact on a per-service level."
In a later update, the company added, "We are starting to see services recover. We still expect to see intermittent errors across the impacted services as systems handle retried and caches are filled."
DownDetector shows nearly 6,000 outage reports related to AWS, but Amazon has not yet issued an official statement on the cause or timeline for recovery.

From our initial analysis, the issue occurred due to an invalid automated quota update to our API management system which was distributed globally, causing external API requests to be rejected. To recover we bypassed the offending quota check, which allowed recovery in most regions within 2 hours. However, the quota policy database in us-central1 became overloaded, resulting in much longer recovery in that region. Several products had moderate residual impact (e.g. backlogs) for up to an hour after the primary issue was mitigated and a small number recovering after that. Google will complete a full Incident Report in the following days that will provide a detailed root cause. The company further added that it will take the following measures to prevent future recurrence: Prevent our API management platform from failing due to invalid or corrupt data. Alphabet's Google said on Thursday it had resolved a brief global service disruption on its platforms that affected multiple services such as music streamer Spotify and instant messaging provider Discord. "The issue with Google Chat, Google Meet, Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Cloud Search, Google Tasks, Google Voice has been resolved for all affected users," the company said. "We will publish an analysis of this incident once we have completed our internal investigation." The outage disrupted services on platforms such as Spotify, Snapchat and Discord that rely on the tech giant's cloud managed services and infrastructure. Google Cloud's dashboard said engineering teams were working to resolve a few services still seeing some residual impact. The outage began around 1:50 p.m. ET and there were 14,729 reports of Google Cloud being down in the U.S. around 2:32 p.m. ET, according to tracking website At the peak of the disruption, there were about 46,000 outage reports on Spotify and 10,992 on Discord in the U.S. As of 6:18 p.m. ET, Spotify showed a little over 1,000 reports, while Discord outages had come down to 200. Downdetector's numbers are based on user-submitted reports. The outage might have affected a larger number of users.

The disruptions led to a surge in error reports on Down Detector and other monitoring platforms, with over 11,000 reports from India and 10,000 from the United States.
