The Chase's biggest ever prize pots – but how many nail-biting questions could you get right?

The Sun12-07-2025
THE CHASE has the potential to see contestants win some serious big money prizes.... if you can beat those pesky chasers, that is.
With quizmasters trying to stop hopefuls in their tracks, it takes some serious skill in order to come out on top on the ITV gameshow.
But there have been times when people have managed it, taking home some incredible life-changing amounts – whether for themselves or for charity.
Here are some of the biggest wins ever on the show, and how they managed to do it.
But the question is - would you have known the answers? You'll find all the answers at the bottom of this article.
1. Celebrity Top Spot - £160,000
7
Appearing for Soccer Aid in 2018, Kirsty Gallacher and Rachel Riley unwittingly made The Chase history in the process.
The pair made it to the final chase against Shaun 'The Dark Destroyer' Wallace, and seemed on the backfoot with only 16 points for him to beat.
However, soon they found themselves clawing it back thanks to a combination of wrong answers from Wallace and correct pushbacks, giving them the upper hand.
In the dying seconds of the game, Shaun was asked: "Which ex formula one driver is a multiple Paralympic champion?"
The Chaser didn't know, and then Rachel gave the incorrect answer as David Weir.
In the end, Shaun only made it 11 spaces – and the pair took home the biggest prize packet ever given out in the show's history. It's still not been beaten.
2. Tense Final Chase - £100,000
7
Duo Karen and Ian were the last two contestants standing at the final chase when they appeared on the show in 2024 – and it proved to be a nailbiter.
Throughout the final chase, Paul 'The Sinnerman' Sinha was extremely close behind them, with pushbacks meaning he came incredibly near beating them.
However, one last second slip-up (literally, with one second remaining) gave them the upper hand, and between them they took home a massive £100,000 prize between them.
Paul slipped up on this question: "Lesley Manville played the widow Cathy in what BBC sitcom?"
3. Besting The Beast - £120,000
7
Bryan, Laura and Julia made it through to the final chase together in 2023, going up against Mark 'The Beast' Labbett.
But from the get go they made sure he had to work to stop them, racking up an impressive score of 23 points that Labbett had to beat.
In the final few seconds he was asked: "What island group appears on the signpost of Land's End?"
While he got it right, in the end, he could only achieve 17 with pushbacks also coming in handy, and the trio walked home with £120,000 – or £40,000 each.
4. Biggest Solo Win Ever - £75,000
7
In 2021, Darragh 'The Menace' Ennis was beaten by 20-year-old student Eden Nash in the final chase.
Darragh was asked: "'When I give my heart' is a line from what Nat King Cole hit?"
The Chaser answered correctly but time was not on his side.
The win meant Eden took home £75,000 – the single highest win on a daytime gameshow ever for a solo player.
As Bradley Walsh congratulated him, Eden joked: "That's alright, innit!" with Darragh saying it was "brilliantly played".
Eden said he was just going to "look at it in his bank account" rather than do anything with it.

5. Biggest Head-to-Head Win - £201,000
Strictly star and YouTuber Joe Sugg made show history in 2023 when he managed to bag a staggering £201,000 for the prize pot.
In his head-to-head round against Paul Sinha, Joe took a massive gamble by going for the higher prize.
It all came down to a one question shoot out which was: "Which of a hedgehog's senses is very poor?"
The options were sight, hearing, smell.
Joe managed to get the answer right, with Bradley hugging Joe at his impressive feat.
But in a devastating blow, he later lost it in the final chase when Paul ultimately caught up to the team's score of 18 after a minor mistake.
When asked who starred in Stepbrothers, Joe and his celebrity team-mates answered Will Ferrell - but mispronounced his name as Will Farrell, which Bradley could not accept.
The team were instead awarded £1,000 each for their chosen charities.
7
6. Biggest group take down - £116,000
It's rare that all four contestants make it to the final chase, so Jenny 'The Vixen' Ryan had her work cut out from her at the start.
In this celebrity special, Tony Maudsley, Bryony Page, Kerry Godilman and Alexander Armstrong all made it through to the last round, with £116,000 in their prize pot for charity.
Racking up an impressive 23 points for The Vixen to beat, Jenny gave it her all but found herself suffering pushbacks when she got questions wrong.
In the final moments, she was asked: "What was the full name of the first Duke of Wellington?"
The Vixen knew her history, but it wasn't enough to catch the players.
Maybe it was the Christmas spirit, but the team managed to take home the win – and more importantly £116,000 (29,000 each) for good causes, mainly children's charities.
Rather than be annoyed, Jenny looked tearfully proud at the group for their achievement.
The Chase is available on ITVX.

Love Island producers brought back the baby challenge to ‘stop couple from winning', claim fans

FANS of Love Island think that producers brought back the baby challenge to prevent a certain couple from winning the series. The Love Island final is in touching distance, and fans are convinced the iconic baby challenge made a comeback to ensure one couple does not win by any means. 4 4 Fans think that show bosses do not want one of the couple's to win the £50K cash prize and title of 2025 Love Island winners. That couple is Jamie Rhodes and Yasmin Pettet. The couple, who got together after Casa Amor, recently went exclusive after meeting each other's friends and family. But despite their strong bond, there seems to be a rift of sorts between the pair. When the baby challenge kicked off in Thursday's episode, it was clear that Jamie and Yasmin wanted different things in life. Yas was less than impressed and told her partner that she's not maternal and has no interest in becoming a mother. Despite seeing kids in his future, Jamie assured Yas it wasn't a deal breaker for him. Jamie told Yas he was surrounded by children in his family, and "probably would" want to have children of his own one day. Yas then said she'd rather her friends have kids that she spends time with so she can "give them back". She confessed: "I've never had the desire to have a family." Love Island fans 'work out' why Dejon turned on Meg as villa's strongest couple hit the rocks days before final "It's not a complete deal breaker, but it's definitely up there," Jamie responded. This conversation then sparked fears for the couple, with one eagle-eyed fan thinking the challenge was brought back to purposely ensure the pair do not win this summer 's series. A fan on X shared their theory, writing: "Hear me out: the producers brought back the baby challenge for like 10 minutes just to prompt a conversation between yas and jamie wanting different things because they don't want them to win." "Yes 100% agree with this," said one person. LOVE ISLAND 2025 - ALL the dumped stars so far LOVE Island 2025 is in its penultimate week. Here are all the dumped Islanders so far ... "And I still voted for them because I'm not a sucker," declared a third. While the original poster replied: "Producers think they're so sneaky but we see through it!" Meanwhile, others predicted the pair will not last long. "Oh dear - Yas & Jamie might fall out over wanting kids," said one person. "I love them. But Yas and Jamie won't last. They just want different futures. Jamie would be an amazing dad," said a second. While a third wrote: "That's the end of Yas & Jamie…he fully got the ick Kids is always a deal breaker for someone who really wants kids, especially when you then try to tell man about your cat instead." 4

Steven Knight: Birmingham City show ‘would've been a tragedy' before US takeover

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has said his new series which follows Birmingham City, the football team he supports, 'would've been a tragedy' if it had been made before the club's US takeover. Prime Video's Built In Birmingham: Brady And The Blues, which Knight is executive producer on, will follow the football club as they are taken over by former NFL quarterback Tom Brady and US businessman Tom Wagner. Advertisement Knight told the PA news agency: 'For most of my supporting Blues career, there's been not a lot to make a film about to be honest. The series will follow Tom Wagner and Tom Brady's takeover of the football club. Photo: Nick Potts/PA. 'It would have been a tragedy or a comedy, or both, previous to this, and then when this thing happened, which most Blues fans still can't quite believe, that we're taken over by proper people with real money, and with ambition, then suddenly there was a story there. 'It's the story that Tom Brady, who would win, and win, and win, takes over a team that loses and draws, and (has) just a completely different culture and ethic. 'It was worth everything just to be there when Tom Brady and Tom Wagner entered a pub called The Roost, which is quite a rough Blues supporters' pub, just before a match and to see the two things come together in a really happy way.' Advertisement The series' first episode shows Brady and Wagner sacking then-manager John Eustace with the club in the Championship play-off places, replacing him with Wayne Rooney, who takes the team into the relegation zone, leading to some tense moments between the former Manchester United striker and Brady. Later in the episode, Rooney is sacked after the seven-time Super Bowl winner questions his work ethic, and the club's relegation to League One, the third tier of English football, is shown. Speaking about the show's tense moments, Knight said: 'Who wouldn't need to learn stuff? They're new to the country, new city. '(There's) fantastic moments in terms of entertainment, but I think Tom Brady would question anybody's work ethic. Advertisement 'It is so phenomenal, he just cannot bear to lose, it's just not an option, and so anyone who isn't doing absolutely everything they can, every hour of the day, to make success happen, is not pulling their weight. So, I did feel a bit for Wayne.' Despite his new series and the success of Disney+'s Welcome To Wrexham, which details the rise of the Welsh football club under celebrity owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Knight believes the 'scepticism' towards US owners in English football will remain. He added: 'This is football, no-one from another football team is going to go, 'oh, really well done, that's fantastic, really pleased', that isn't ever going to happen. 'We don't expect it to happen and I think the more shrill the backlash, the more proof there is that we're doing something right, because it's worthy of attention. Advertisement 'These are proper business people with real money who want to do this, have said what they're going to do, and they're doing it. 'I think we won't ever win the hearts and minds of other football teams' supporters when they've got their shirts on. 'But I think a documentary can, at least, when someone's at home with the family and they're back to being a normal human being and not a football supporter, they can see the story and understand, and probably reflect that we're all the same. 'We all want the same thing for our club. We're all unreasonable about our club. We all want us to win the Champions League. Otherwise, what's the point?' Advertisement When asked about the upcoming Peaky Blinders film, which is due to be released on Netflix, Knight said he could confirm it would be released 'soon'. He said: 'I can tell you it's fantastic, and that's not just my opinion, but that's also the Netflix opinion, it's really good. I mean, it's brilliant, and we're really proud of it, and it's tested really, really well, and we can't wait for people to see it.' The original BBC series follows Tommy Shelby and his Birmingham gang of the series' name, and has covered topics such as the rise of fascism, Irish republican politics and communist activities through the period following the First World War. The Built In Birmingham: Brady And The Blues series will launch worldwide on Prime Video on Friday.
