Sharing the moment on X (formerly Twitter), a resident wrote about hailing an auto 'the old way' after a long time. To their surprise, the driver stopped without hesitation, agreed to the destination instantly, turned on the fare meter without any argument, and drove without speaking on his phone.
'Am I really in Bengaluru, in 2025!?' the commuter wrote, summing up the rarity of the incident in a city where auto rides often come with fare disputes and refusals.

How did X users react?
X users were quick to respond, many relating to the experience — and some suggesting a tip as a gesture of appreciation.
"Tip him! I do that just to encourage good behaviour,' one user suggested.
Another speculated, 'Must be someone from the older generation.'
Some pointed out that such experiences, while rare, aren't entirely extinct. 'There are many like this. I try this once in a while and it works out. Some still use feature phones and prefer cash payments,' wrote a user.
Others praised auto drivers in coastal Karnataka, saying, 'The best auto drivers are in Mangalore. No refusals, always by meter, no arguments, no detours, just less UPI usage.'
This post has surfaced amid growing dissatisfaction with auto services in Bengaluru, especially after the government's controversial bike taxi ban. Since then, many commuters have taken to social media to express frustration over auto drivers rejecting app-based rides unless paid extra or tipped.

Based on the papers on record, the total compensation was calculated. Of the total compensation of ₹65.94 lakh calculated, 25% was deducted for contributory negligence, resulting in a net award of ₹49.46 lakh. The amount is to be paid with 9% annual interest, with a portion directed to be placed in fixed deposits for three years for the parents. The tribunal directed the truck owner and its insurer to jointly pay the compensation. The bus owner and its insurer were not held liable. Mohali: Action against heavy vehicles on Airport Rd during prohibited hrs
Mohali: After a week-long awareness drive, traffic police are set to enforce the ban on multi-axle vehicles plying on Airport Road during peak hours, from the coming week. Despite the restriction orders issued last month, heavy vehicles have still been spotted on Airport Road during peak hours, particularly those from other states. (HT File) As part of this, those plying heavy vehicles on the Airport Road from 8 am to 11 am and 5 pm to 8 pm will be booked under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, and other applicable laws. Deputy superintendent of police (DSP, traffic) Karnail Singh said boards and signage have been installed far from the city to alert drivers, especially those coming from outside Punjab, of the rule. 'We had recommended this so that truck drivers can avoid entering the prohibited stretch during restricted hours. Those found violating the rule will face strict action, and the action will start in the coming week,' he said. Superintendent of police (SP, traffic) Navneet Mahal stressed that the leniency so far was deliberate. 'We first wanted to create awareness before taking action. Regular meetings are being conducted to ensure smoother traffic, and the outcome will be visible soon,' he said. The 200-ft wide Airport Road, which runs for 18 km from Gopal Sweets near Sunny Enclave, Kharar, to Chhat light points in Zirakpur, is the primary link from Zirakpur to New Chandigarh via Mohali, Aerocity and IT City. It also serves as a major transit point for vehicles from Punjab and Haryana heading towards Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport. Due to its strategic location, the road witnesses heavy truck movement from Delhi, Haryana, Ambala, Baddi and Nalagarh, making it one of the busiest stretches in the region. Transport department seizes 18 vehicles, including bike taxis, for Motor Vehicles Act violations in Coimbatore
Acting on complaints from cab operators and autorickshaw drivers, the Coimbatore Transport Department conducted a special inspection on Saturday under the orders of N. Azhagarasu, Joint Transport Commissioner, Coimbatore zone. The operation was led by A.C. Viswanathan, Regional Transport Officer (Coimbatore Central), with motor vehicle inspectors from all regional transport offices in the city. Six private light motor vehicles were seized for being used as rental cars, and 12 two-wheelers were seized for operating through the Rapido app for hire, in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. A total fine of ₹1,80,000 was imposed. An official from the Transport Department said the fine for each vehicle was ₹10,000 and that violators could pay the fine and retrieve their vehicles. 'If there is a second-time violation, we are planning to initiate action on the registration certificate or move the matter to court,' the official said. The official added that such checks would continue in the coming weeks, as using non-transport vehicles for rental purposes is illegal and amounts to violation of permit conditions. 'Transport vehicles have to undergo an annual fitness certificate (FC) check and have higher insurance premiums, whereas non-transport vehicles require an FC only once in 15 years and have lower insurance costs,' the official said.
