Bhiwandi: Four days after BJP leader Praful Tangadi (45) and his cousin Tejas Tangadi (22) were brutally murdered in Bhiwandi, Bhiwandi Taluka police arrested two accused — Vicky Mhatre and Kalpesh Vaiti — on Friday.
They were produced before court and remanded to police custody till Aug 22.
The incident occurred on August 11 when the victims, engaged in the construction business, were returning home after closing their office. Outside the premises, four to five masked men attacked them with swords and sharp weapons, leaving both critically injured. A relative rushed them to hospital, but doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Praful, Thane Rural vice president of BJP Yuva Morcha and head of JDT Enterprises, was a prominent local figure. Police suspect a long-standing dispute between him and Mhatre, who was also accused of assaulting him two years ago. The victims' family alleged police negligence in that earlier case emboldened the attackers.

"After the incident the tempo's tyre was on Shaikh's body. Khan has been booked for death due to negligence and for rash and negligent driving. He was served notice and was later let go. Shaikh was declared dead before admission in the hospital," said a police officer of the Wadala police station.
