Yahoo29-04-2025

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is taking on a different form of fighting for his upcoming movie 'The Smashing Machine.'
The first trailer for the A24 film was released on Tuesday, with Johnson looking unrecognizable as former UFC champion Mark Kerr. The role is a more dramatic one for the WWE superstar turned actor. He reunites with his 'Jungle Cruise' co-star Emily Blunt, who plays Kerr's wife Dawn Staples.
In 2002, Kerr was the subject of an HBO documentary, 'The Smashing Machine: The Life and Times of Extreme Fighter Mark Kerr.' The doc followed Kerr's life within the sport and touched on his use of painkillers and narcotics as well as his relationship with Staples.
Kerr is a former collegiate wrestler, two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion and World Vale Tudo Champion.
Ben Safdie of 'Uncut Gems' and 'Good Time' is the film's director and writer.
Johnson posted the two-and-a-half-minute trailer to his YouTube page, and fans quickly weighed in on how this role differs from the many he's played in past films.
'FINALLY The Rock has come back…to not playing the same character & escaped the jungle, wrote one fan in the comment section.
'Finally a serious movie from The Rock. It looks and feels fantastic,' wrote another.
'Holy s–t, DJ actually looks like he put on an Oscar-worthy performance,' another weighed in.
'The Smashing Machine' is set to be released in theaters on Oct. 3.

Dakota Johnson Says Hollywood Is a ‘Mess': Decisions Are Made by ‘People Who Don't Watch Movies or Know Anything About Them' and Studios ‘Remake the Same Things'

Dakota Johnson continues to speak her mind on the failings of contemporary Hollywood. While appearing on 'Hot Ones' during her 'Materialists' press tour, she was asked by host Sean Evans why 'Hollywood is risk-averse.' 'I think it's hard when creative decisions are made by committee and it's hard when creative decisions are made by people who don't even really watch movies or know anything about them, and that tends to be what's occurring a lot,' Johnson answered bluntly. They want fresh, they want to feel new things, experience new things, see new things, so I don't know, I guess it's all just a bit of a mess right now, isn't it?' Johnson has been open in interviews over the past year about the nightmare experience of 'Madame Web,' her 2024 Sony comic book tentpole that flopped at the box office and with critics. Johnson headlined the film as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic who gains the ability to see the future after a near-death experience, but it earned a dismal $43 million at the domestic box office and an 11% on Rotten Tomatoes. She said on 'Hot Ones' that she 'tried' and 'failed' to be a superhero. 'It wasn't my fault,' Johnson told the Los Angeles Times earlier this month about the flop. 'There's this thing that happens now where a lot of creative decisions are made by committee. Or made by people who don't have a creative bone in their body. And it's really hard to make art that way. Or to make something entertaining that way.' Johnson added, 'I think unfortunately with 'Madame Web,' it started out as something and turned into something else. And I was just sort of along for the ride at that point. But that happens. Bigger budget movies fail all the time.' Speaking to Bustle last year, Johnson said Hollywood was also suffering because 'you cannot make art based on numbers and algorithms. My feeling has been for a long time that audiences are extremely smart, and executives have started to believe that they're not. Audiences will always be able to sniff out bullshit.' Tiffany Stratton had tragic surrender cobra after horrible first pitch

Tiffany Stratton had tragic surrender cobra after horrible first pitch WWE star Tiffany Stratton threw out a first pitch at a New York Mets game, and it was so painfully terrible. At this rate, we might need to update the list of the worst first pitches ever because it's the second throw in as much as a week that's been thrown everywhere but to the player waiting at home plate. First, former NFL lineman Taylor Lewan had his throw go wide left during a Cardinals game, invoking shades of 50 Cent's horrific throw from years past. Now, Stratton has entered the chat, and she might have let Lewan off the hook for his efforts. Stratton arrived at Citi Field, looking happy as a clam, and even showed off her Mets-themed wrestling belt. Pretty cool stuff, right? However, things went south quickly. As the WWE women's world champion stepped to the mound, she yelled her signature phrase, 'It's Tiffy Time,' before she launched the baseball. Sadly, she hurled that poor ball so far that it went over outfielder Jared Young's head and into the dirt. Realizing the error of her ways, Stratton immediately went full surrender cobra and moments later, put her hands on her head again in utter disbelief. Fortunately, Stratton might have taken the whole thing in stride. She made several posts to her social media accounts on Thursday celebrating her day, including a TikTok video and an Instagram post. 'Put me in, Mets,' she said. You'll nail it next time, Tiffany Stratton. You were just a bit — not really even close at all — outside.

'Euphoria' Star Eric Dane Broke Down Over His ALS Diagnosis Not Being 'The End' Of Him In A Heartbreaking New Interview Teaser

In April, Grey's Anatomy and Euphoria star Eric Dane announced that he's been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, saying in a statement to People: 'I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.' For context, Eric is 52 and shares two teenage daughters, Billie Beatrice and Georgia Geraldine, with his wife, Rebecca Gayheart. Rebecca filed for divorce from Eric in 2018, although in March — a month before his ALS diagnosis was made public — she requested to dismiss her petition. ALS, which is sometimes referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease or motor neurone disease, is a rare neurodegenerative illness that impacts nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing progressive paralysis of the muscles. The disease — for which there is currently no cure — causes people to gradually lose the ability to walk, speak, eat, and breathe independently, although it notably does not impact a person's thinking ability. The life expectancy after a person is diagnosed with ALS can vary between cases; however, according to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, most people with the disease are expected to live for three to five years after diagnosis. That said, everyone's experience with ALS is unique, and some people go on to live for decades. When announcing his diagnosis, Eric expressed gratitude that he's currently in a position to continue working, saying that he's 'looking forward to returning to the set of Euphoria,' which is currently shooting its long-awaited third season. Eddy Chen/HBO Eric stars in the Emmy-winning HBO series as Cal Jacobs, the father of Nate Jacobs, who is played by Jacob Elordi. It's not a dream.' Related: Here Are 10 Celebs Who've Publicly Admitted The Reasons Why They Regret Ending Their Marriages At one point in the 30-second teaser, Eric and Diane hold hands as he looks visibly emotional. 'I don't think this is the end of my story. I don't feel like this is the end of me,' he says. Good Morning America / ABC Towards the end of the clip, while presumably discussing the immediate aftermath of his diagnosis, Diane asks who the first person was that he called, prompting Eric to break down in tears. Good Morning America / ABC The GMA segment — which airs on Monday — marks Eric's first TV interview since his diagnosis. It comes after he spoke with Variety about the future of his career, saying he feels 'pretty capable' as far as acting is concerned. 'With real respect, I really don't want to talk about it. I made the announcement. That's what's going on with me; it's very personal to me,' he said when asked about his diagnosis. 'I am ready and willing to do just about anything, but I have limitations that I understand will preclude me from playing certain roles. I'm working on Euphoria. I finished Countdown. As far as that goes, I'm pretty capable.' You can watch the GMA teaser here, and this is where you can find his new interview with Variety, in which he also spills on shooting Euphoria Season 3.
