DCA officials highlight shortage of manpower, resources
"The issue is not just about arrest powers but also the entire subsequent process and the resources required," said a senior official. "In these four cases, after successfully securing the arrests, we went beyond our usual responsibilities of raids and seizures to handle medical examinations, legal paperwork, courtroom arguments, and the jail handover."
Due to the unavailability of public prosecutors, who officials say typically focus on criminal laws rather than drug laws under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, the drug inspectors themselves had to present legal arguments in court.
Officials also pointed to a lack of police support, which raises serious safety concerns.

"There is no armed protection, no escort, no backup. What if the person being arrested turns violent during the operation? These offenders are not small-time players as many were in the business for 40 to 50 years with extensive networks. Local police usually refuse to assist, claiming that drug and cosmetic violations do not fall under their criminal jurisdiction," the official explained.

In addition to resource constraints, officials underscored inadequate infrastructure, such as the absence of lock-ups. "Where do we keep the accused we arrest before producing them for remand within 24 hours? Until they are presented before a magistrate, we are responsible for their care." Officials suggested that with better cooperation, more accused individuals could be arrested and sent in remand.

Child trafficking racket busted in Maharashtra's Shivajinagar; two women held, infant rescued, main accused on run
MUMBAI: A suspected child trafficking racket was busted in Shivajinagar after a housewife from Thane, working with police and a social activist, helped lay a trap that led to the arrest of two women attempting to sell a six-day-old baby boy for Rs 5.5 lakh. Mayuri Vannam, 29, a resident of Yeor Village in Thane West, approached the Shivajinagar Police Station with information about a newborn being sold in the area. She was accompanied by Dr Binu Varghese, a local activist who had first received the tip-off. According to the police, the initial information was that a man named Sameer was offering a newborn child for sale. Mayuri contacted him, and he confirmed that a woman would soon give birth and he planned to sell the baby for Rs 4 lakh. An advance of Rs 10,000 was paid to Sameer. Mayuri and Varghese then alerted Shivajinagar Police. Senior Inspector P N Shinde formed a team with officers from Chunabhatti Police Station and women constables to plan a decoy operation. Mayuri was told to stay in touch with Sameer, who later asked her to contact a woman named Nasreen (later identified as Nazima Aslam Sheikh) to complete the handover. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Do you have a mouse? One of them identified Mayuri through a missed call and handed over the infant, along with a hospital file showing the baby was born on 1 August 2025 at S N Hospital, Shivajinagar. The mother's name was listed as Sumaya Irfan Khan. When the women demanded Rs 5.5 lakh, Mayuri signalled the police team. Officers immediately moved in and detained both women. The suspects were identified as Nazima Aslam Sheikh alias Nasreen and Fatima Mehmud Ali Sheikh, both residents of Rafiknagar, Govandi. During questioning, Nazima confessed that she had received the baby from Sameer alias Nabeel Sheikh, and Rs 50,000 of the advance had already been paid. She said the money was to be split between Sameer, the baby's biological parents (Sumaya and Irfan Khan), and herself. She also admitted she had a previous child trafficking case against her at Govandi Police Station. Two mobile phones—a Samsung and an ACR model—were seized from her possession. The baby, just six days old, was taken into protective custody by a woman constable and later handed over to child welfare authorities. A panchnama was conducted at the scene, and formal charges are being processed. Police are currently trying to trace Sameer alias Nabeel Sheikh, who is on the run. Shivajinagar Police have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, for child trafficking, criminal conspiracy, and sale of minors. Further investigations are underway, including looking into the hospital's role and whether any birth records were tampered with.

Connecticut Sun vs Phoenix Mercury. Image via: Getty Images Throwing heinous objects onto the court at WNBA games has become a trend recently. However, the suspects didn't get far and were arrested for it. In a similar set of events, a second person had been arrested for throwing a d**do onto the courtside. The person, later revealed to be Kaden Lopez, 18, was arrested for this barbaric incident. What's even more surprising was when this person was interviewed. Although he had apologized for this inhumane behavior, however, he made sure to address the media with something that sparked heated debate among everyone out there. He referred to this incident as a 'stupid prank', which had created discontent among the audience and the people of the league. Kaden Lopez had been arrested for allegedly throwing a d**do at a WNBA Game This is not the first time that a s*x object has been thrown, aimed at the courtside at a WNBA game. Armed with hypersonic Zircon and nuclear KH102 missiles, Russia's Sukhoi Su-57 can hit targets thousands of kilometers away which other fighters can't even see
Russian hypersonic and nuclear armed missiles have a new launch platform and its the latest fifth generation stealth fighter in the world - the Sukhoi Su-57 Felon. Russian Aerospace Forces have deployed the 3N-22 Zircon (NATO reporting name SS-N-33), one of the fastest missiles in active service on the Felon jets in the war against Ukraine. These Russian stealth fighters also carry a modified variant of the 3,500-kilometer range KH 101/102 missiles, making Su-57 the only fighter in the world to have the capability to strike at such a massive distance. If the Russian claims are true, the war against Ukraine and western sanctions since late February 2022 have failed to dent Moscow's ability to design, develop and manufacture newer weapons. The highly maneuverable, agile and long-range Zircon, a missile primarily developed for the Russian Navy, has been modified for an air-to-surface role while the KH 101/102, too, have undergone a major redesign to arm the Su-57. The announcement signals Russian intent to fully operationalize the Su-57 and battle test it over the skies of Ukraine. See the tiger's reaction! Story To Hear Undo How Zircon missile makes Su-57 a dangerous fighter An Su-57 armed with 3N-22 Zircon gives Russian Aeroscape Forces an unprecedented striking ability unmatched by its adversaries including the United States of America and the NATO forces. In comparison, the US Navy operates the RIM-174 Standard Extended Range Active Missile (ERAM or SM-6). The SM-6 is primarily used against aerial targets but can be deployed in anti-ship missions and used to neutralize sea-skimming cruise missiles. Live Events The Zircon can be armed with nuclear weapons and is a scramjet powered hypersonic missile capable of flying at Mach 9 (over 6,000 miles per hour or 9,600 kmph) with a reported range of 1,000 kilometers. Russian media had reported in February 2023 about a new hypersonic missile being developed for the Su-57, which was at that time being panned by the western media for lacking true fifth generation and stealth capabilities. Also Read: Trump orders NASA to kill 2 satellites that can function for many more years - the reason will shock all While the Zircon is the latest addition to the Su-57 arsenal, the stealth fighter has been flying armed with conventional as well as nuclear tipped long-range KH101/102 cruise missiles. These missiles are the primary weapons of Russian strategic bombers like the Tupolev Tu-160 Blackjack, Tu-22M3/5 Backfire C, Tu-95MS16 Bear-H, and the Su-27IB fighter. Both the KH 101/102 missiles have been redesigned and redeveloped to fit the Su-57 but their target range remains 3500 kilograms. This gives the Russian stealth jet the longest strike range among comparable fighters. The KH 101/102 missiles on Su-57s carry a smaller ammunition package, have a compact airframe, and folding wings while the turbofan TRDD-50A turbojet engine has also been modified. Russia has also ramped up the production of the SU-57 to meet the demand of 76 fighters flying before 2028. United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), which makes the Su-57 at its Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Plant in the Russian Far East, delivered twice the number of stealth jets to the country's defence forces in 2024 as compared to 2023. The company had rolled out 12 Su-57s in 2023 and six a year earlier.
