Tesla Reportedly Halts Cybertruck Deliveries Amid Concerns of Flying Body Panels
Would-be Tesla Cybertruck owners are now reporting that some trucks scheduled for delivery are being held back for additional inspection. The issue comes after over a month of reports from existing owners that their trucks have had issues with loose bodywork, including at least one owner who has footage of a panel flying off of his truck at speed.
Most owners waiting on the delay have not reported any specific reason for the wait, but one user on a Cybertruck owner forum has shared a screenshot from a conversation with a service advisor that suggests "the cantrail concern" is the problem being inspected. This is the trim piece that follows along the side of the Cybertruck's roofline, starting at the edge of the truck's A-pillar and continuing to the edge of the bed. It is also the piece of bodywork most frequently mentioned in reports of loose bodywork, including in what are now four different official NHTSA complaints.
Reid Tomasko, the owner who shared footage of his truck shedding this particular piece of bodywork at speed, told Road & Track in February that he had seen the issue on "five to seven" different trucks encountered at his wrapping business. This includes his own truck and another truck in his shop when he filmed a YouTube video that dug into the problem. Tomasko has since claimed in another video that Tesla told him the problem was "glue delamination."
It's worth noting that Tesla has not yet announced a recall, stop sale, or any other sort of formal delay over the issue. Road & Track has reached out to Tesla for comment, and we will update this story in the event that the brand responds.

Elon Musk Claims Trump's Name Is On The Epstein List, Taco Trump Threatens To End Phony Stark's Government Contracts
Source: The Washington Post / Getty / Elon Musk / Donald Trump It should come as no surprise that the bromance between these two ego maniacs would have come to a fiery end. We knew this day would come, but no one had Musk and Trump beefing with each other so soon on their bingo cards. The alleged ketamine abuser couldn't keep his disdain for Trump's 'one big beautiful bill,' calling it a 'disgusting abomination.' 'I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it anymore,' Musk began. 'This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.' Trump was uncharacteristically quiet following Musk's initial comments about his legislative centerpiece of his second presidency, the 'one big beautiful bill.' That all changed when Trump finally 'clapped back' at Musk while taking questions during his meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Trump said he was 'very surprised' and 'disappointed' by his former financier's comments about his stupid bill, claiming the Tesla chief saw the bill and understood its inner workings better than anybody, while suggesting that Musk was mad because of the removal of subsidies and mandates for electric vehicles. Elon Musk Had Time For Donald Trump Musk responded in real time via his 'former platform,' X, formerly Twitter, with a flurry of posts on X accusing Trump of 'ingratitude' and 'Without me, Trump would have lost the election,' while refuting the orange menace's claims. 'Keep the EV/solar incentive cuts in the bill, even though no oil & gas subsidies are touched (very unfair!!), but ditch the MOUNTAIN of DISGUSTING PORK in the bill,' Musk wrote. Oh, and he wasn't done. Musk then hit the president with a low blow, writing, 'Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!' Donald Trump Claps Back Trump finally fired back on his platform, Truth Social, by threatening to cut Musk's government contracts. 'The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn't do it.' Felon 47 wrote. Musk replied by threatening to decommission SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft, which could be detrimental to the International Space Station and NASA, as it is described as 'the only spacecraft currently flying that is capable of returning significant amounts of cargo to Earth' and can seat seven passengers. Musk also agreed with a post stating that Trump should be impeached and replaced by JD Vance. Oh, this is getting spicy. While all of this was going on, CNN reports that Tesla stocks took a hit and Musk's net worth shrank. Per CNN : Tesla shares plummeted 15% this afternoon as Elon Musk's battle with President Donald Trump intensified. Trump threatened in a social media post to target Musk's business empire. 'The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts,' Trump wrote on Truth Social. The Tesla selloff has wiped off more than $150 billion off the market value of Telsa, which started the day worth nearly $1.1 trillion. It has also erased a chunk off the net worth of Musk, the world's richest person. Social media has pulled up all the seats, grabbed some popcorn and are currently watching Musk go at with Trump and his supporters, you can see those reactions in the gallery below. Musk Vs. Trump: Tesla Suffers Record $152B One-Day Crash As CEO Warns Tariffs 'Will Cause A Recession' (UPDATED)
Benzinga and Yahoo Finance LLC may earn commission or revenue on some items through the links below. Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) stock traded down 14.3% to $284.70 on Thursday, the company's second-biggest percentage loss in more than a year and the biggest market cap loss in company history. The decline was caused by an escalated feud between CEO Elon Musk and President Donald Trump. What Happened: Tesla's market cap fell by a company record $152 billion, taking the company out of the $1 trillion market capitalization club. This move comes after Musk publicly criticized Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill." Comments made by Trump in a press interview and by Musk and Trump on social media accounts escalated the battle, with people picking sides in a war of words between two of the world's most influential voices. Trending: Start investing with eToro's CopyTrader — . Musk has been vocal about the projected increase in the national debt from the new spending bill. "Congress is spending America into bankruptcy!" the Tesla CEO tweeted. Trump posted a series of messages on his Truth Social account speaking out against Musk. "I don't mind Elon turning against me, but he should have done so months ago. This is one of the Greatest Bills ever presented to Congress," Trump posted. The president said the bill will put the country "on a path of greatness." Another post had Trump saying that he asked Musk to leave the White House as he was "wearing thin." The president said he removed Musk's EV mandate, which "forced everyone to buy electric cars that nobody else wanted." "And he just went CRAZY!" Trump also suggested that terminating government subsidies and contracts with Musk would be one way to save money. Musk said the president's comments on the EV mandate are "an obvious lie" in a tweet. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO also suggested that he will decommission the Dragon spacecraft in response to Trump's threat on subsidies. The Dragon spacecraft was recently used to bring two stranded astronauts home from the International Space Station. Musk also asked if it was time to create a new political party in America that represents the "80% in the middle." With over 1.1 million votes in, 82% had voted yes, suggesting a third-party option to the Democratic and Republican parties. Escalating the feud further, Musk tweeted that the "really big bomb" is that Trump is in the Epstein files, a reference to the list of people associated with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. "This is an unfortunate episode from Elon, who is unhappy with the One Big Beautiful Bill because it does not include the policies he wanted. The President is focused on passing this historic piece of legislation and making our country great again, " said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt when asked by Benzinga for comment. Musk also suggested that Trump's tariffs "will cause a recession in the second half" of Stock Falls: Shares of the electric vehicle company suffered their second-largest fall year-to-date on Thursday, narrowly beaten by a 15.4% drop on March 10. That March 10 drop was the largest percentage loss for Tesla shares in five years. The drop came as Musk's role in the White House expanded, and he said he planned to stay involved for another year. The stock had dropped in several sessions around that time amid tariff fears and concerns that Musk's political activism was damaging the Tesla brand. While this marks Tesla's largest market cap drop, it is also shy of the largest percentage drop in 2025 and all time. The largest single-day percentage drop for Tesla stock was on Sept. 8, 2020, when it fell 21.1% after not being selected as a member of the S&P 500 Index. The stock would later be added to the index. Tesla stock fell 19.3% on Jan. 13, 2012 after two key departures were announced, as reported by CNN. The good news for Tesla stock could be its history of rebounds after big drops. After shares fell 15.4% on March 10, 2025, the stock rose 3.8% the following day. After the record 21.1% drop on September 8, 2020, Tesla stock rose 10.9% the next day. Tesla stock has traded between $167.42 and $488.54 over the last year, and it is now down 24.9% year-to-date in 2025. The head of Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot program leaves the company
Milan Kovac, who leads Tesla's Optimus humanoid robotics program, is leaving the automaker. In a post on X, Milan talked about how he joined Tesla as an engineer for the core Autopilot team in 2016 and how he started leading the Optimus group in 2022. He explained that he's leaving his position, because he's "been far away from home for too long and will need to spend more time with family abroad." Kovac stressed that it was the only reason he's leaving and that his support for Elon Musk and the Tesla team was "ironclad," perhaps insinuating that his decision had nothing to do with Musk's politics or recent fallout with the president. Tesla first announced that it was working on a humanoid robot in 2021, though it wasn't able to debut an actual prototype until a year a later in 2022. Musk said back then Optimus will be able to move at 5 mph and carry loads up to 45 pounds. He also said that he expects it to sell for $20,000 each when built at volume and claimed that the machines can give the company a $25 trillion market cap. Since then, Tesla has demonstrated Optimus' ability to handle an egg, cook meals, fold the laundry and throw the trash. The robot doesn't have a solid release date yet. Musk said back in April that the robot's production had been affected by China's export restrictions of rare earth magnets, so it's most likely not going to be anytime soon. Bloomberg , which reported Kovac's departure first, said he's leaving the company immediately. Ashok Elluswamy, who's leading the company's Autopilot group, is taking over his responsibilities.
