José Ramírez has 3 hits to help Guardians rally past Marlins, move closer to AL wild-card spot
The Guardians trailed 3-0 in the first and 4-3 in the fourth, but rallied for their 23rd win in 32 games and moved within one-half game of the idle New York Yankees for the final American League wild-card spot.
Arias' sacrifice fly in a two-run fifth against Edward Cabrera (6-6) put Cleveland ahead for good at 5-4. David Fry and Brayan Rocchio both singled in runs in the seventh, when the Guardians scored four times off Valente Bellozo.
Tanner Bibee (9-9) extended his winning streak to five by working 5 2/3 innings and giving up four runs (two earned). Cade Smith entered with the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth and retired Liam Hicks for his sixth save.
Augustin Ramírez had an RBI single in the first when Miami took a 3-0 lead. The other runs came in when Guardians catcher Austin Hedges dropped a throw at the plate, allowing Kyle Stowers and Ramírez to score.
Marlins rookie Jakob Marsee, who had a team record-tying seven RBIs Tuesday, went 0 for 4. Cabrera gave up five runs in 5 1/3 innings.

Ramírez moved past Kenny Lofton into third in franchise history with 977 runs. The seven-time All-Star has spent his entire 13-year career with Cleveland.

And let me just say a side note, how many injuries are we going to deal with with the quarterback position in Browns' game? I mean, come on. But he's dealing with an oblique injury that left him out of practice and will likely leave him out of the Browns preseason game on Saturday against the Eagles. So we will see Dylan Gabriel, the Cleveland Browns' 3rd round pick, get the nod on Saturday. So this adds an even, you know, bigger, you know, a wrinkle, I guess is the right word, but adds another little layer into this Cleveland Browns quarterback situation because Shadoor Sanders went out and bawled. He dazzled against the Carolina Panthers in their first preseason game last Friday. What if Dylan Gabriel goes out there and does the exact same thing, quarterback controversy, even though that's a term that I, I absolutely hate, but that's gonna make this preseason that much more interesting. How do the Cleveland Browns decide to move forward? What if Dylan Gabriel struggles? What if it is clear what we see from Dylan Gabriel on Saturday that Shadoor Sanders should get the edge in that quarterback room? It's gonna be juicy, but no matter what happens, it's gonna make headlines and fits. I am here for that in the month of August. Yeah, no, look, you're right. One of our leads, I'll bet you by Tuesday of next week is what the depth chart look like for the Cleveland Browns at the quarterback position. It's just what all eyes are gonna be on. I root for success for everybody, so just like I wanted Shadoor to be great. I want Dylan Gabriel to be great too. And then all of a sudden Browns fans can try and figure out if they have. Two future starting quarterbacks. I will just remind everybody, as I have repeatedly, we keep saying the entire, not you, but the general population keeps saying that the entire quarterback room is hurt for the Browns. A new report reveals one Cleveland Browns rookie has been stealing the show this summer. But it is not much-hyped quarterback Shedeur Sanders. There has been a huge amount of attention on the Browns' QB situation this summer. Because the team created an awkward situation by drafting not one, but two signal callers in April's draft. And added them to a QB room that already included Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Deshaun Watson. Yet, with no clear frontrunner, there has been a lot of focus on lighting road talent Shedeur Sanders. And his potential to force his way into the starting role with his performance. However, according to Sportskeeda's Tony Pauline, a completely different rookie has amazed coaches and likely locked up a Week 1 starting role. 'In conversations with sources and several players on the Browns roster, Carson Schwesinger has been the talk of camp this summer. Despite the media's seemingly never-ending focus on quarterback Shedeur Sanders.' The second round pick reportedly arrived at training camp with a humble and ego-free attitude, as well as a football IQ and work ethic that 'impressed coaches.' Furthermore, the linebacker only needed less than two weeks to learn the Cleveland Browns' defensive playbook front and back. The number of plays and the complexity of codes in NFL playbooks can take a long time for rookies to learn. However, it clearly was a breeze for the UCLA product. But he showcased his smarts in the pre-draft process, says Pauline. 'According to those who administered the [AIQ and S2 tests], Schwesinger's scores were comparable to those of Luke Kuechley, the former first-round pick of the Carolina Panthers who went on to become a five-time All-Pro as well as NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2019.'
