Bengaluru's public transport gets digital boost with ONDC integration for metro, bus ticketing
The tickets can be bought on popular apps, such as Rapido, Namma Yatri, Tummoc, RedBus, EaseMyTrip, Highway Delite, OneTicket, and Yatri City Travel Guide, among others. Till now, metro tickets could be booked online only through the Namma Metro mobile app, Paytm, and WhatsApp chatbot.
While launching the new services, Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge described the move as a 'significant leap toward inclusive and interoperable mobility solutions.'
'This initiative not only makes public transport more accessible but also promotes the use of digital platforms for daily commuting. Bengaluru is one of the fastest-growing cities in the world. To achieve our vision of 70 per cent public transport share by 2030, we need a combination of robust infrastructure, digital integration, and open data,' he added.
BMTC Managing Director Ramachandran R noted that the corporation is working towards adopting open-source data with real-time updates. 'On June 21, BMTC served over 46 lakh passengers in a single day. To manage this growing demand, we must embrace open, real-time data and develop commuter-friendly digital platforms,' he said.
He added, 'We are working on introducing both closed-loop and open-loop cards for our services. Plans are underway to roll out Smart Shakti Cards in the coming year, which will be compatible with RuPay, Mastercard, and Visa – allowing all major credit and debit cards to be used on our Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs).'
Ramachandran further stated, 'Additionally, we are looking to implement an Automatic Passenger Counting (APC) system integrated with an Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system. This is aimed at addressing the high operational costs and moving towards a conductor-less transit model within the city.'
M Maheshwar Rao, Managing Director, BMRCL, called the integration with ONDC a critical step for simplifying multimodal journeys. 'With auto and cab services already available on ONDC, the addition of metro ticketing creates a more unified travel ecosystem. Our aim is to ensure that commuters can book their entire trip – from doorstep to destination – seamlessly using a single app,' Rao said.
At the event, two mobility apps – Namma Yatri and Tummoc – also unveiled new features as part of the Enroute Challenge, an urban mobility innovation competition supported by Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI), WRI India, and Villgro. These apps now offer end-to-end trip planning across metro, bus, and auto-rickshaw services using open data provided by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC).
Through these apps, commuters can view live bus and metro schedules, receive trip recommendations, and book auto-rickshaws for first- and last-mile connectivity, all within a single interface. Both apps also provide real-time alerts and estimated trip costs.

Bengaluru Metro commuters in a muddle over two Yellow Line station names
BENGALURU: Just a day after the much-awaited Metro Yellow Line between RV Road and Bommasandra started operations on Monday, commuters are already calling for urgent corrections to station names, citing ticketing errors and travel delays. The confusion centres around two stations: Electronics City and Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara. The names, passengers said, do not match the common understanding or BMTC bus stop names. BMTC's 'Konappana Agrahara' stop corresponds to 'Electronics City' in the Metro, while BMTC's 'Electronics City' stop is called 'Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara' in the Metro. 'Day 2 Yellow line RV road to Infosys station was a breeze, 30 mins! However, there's a lot of confusion among 2 station names, Electronics city & Infosys foundation Konappana Agrahara station, ideally it should be swapped (sic),' commuter Shilpa Rao posted. Another passenger, Shailesh S Poojary, said the discrepancy not only confuses commuters but also causes 'identity loss' for well-known locations. 'BMTC stop Konappana Agrahara is named Electronic City in metro, and BMTC stop Electronic City is named Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara in metro. This creates confusion & identity loss (sic),' he posted on social media. While many hailed the 30-minute travel time from RV Road to Infosys station as a game-changer, passengers said the station name confusion dampens the experience. With more people expected to use the Yellow Line in the coming weeks, regular users are urging Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) to act swiftly. Yellow Line feeder services The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) on Tuesday rolled out feeder bus services to improve first- and last-mile connectivity for the newly launched Yellow Line. Inaugurated by Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, the service will run 96 daily trips with 12 buses covering six stations -- Hosur Road, Beretena Agrahara, Electronics City, Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara, Hebbagodi and Bommasandra. BMTC said the initiative will ease commuter travel in the tech corridor.

BMTC launches new metro feeder routes for Bengaluru's Yellow Line
The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has introduced new metro feeder services to enhance last-mile connectivity for passengers using the recently opened Yellow Line. The new services, operational from Tuesday, will connect six metro stations — Hosur Road, Beratena Agrahara, Electronics City, Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara, Hebbagodi, and Bommasandra — through four routes, operated by 12 buses making 96 trips daily. With Namma Metro's #YellowLine now operational, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy @RLR_BTM today launched extended metro feeder bus services to stations along the new corridor to boost first- and last-mile connectivity.@the_hindu@ — Darshan Devaiah B P (@DarshanDevaiahB) August 12, 2025 According to a release, the feeder routes include MF-22, MF-22A, MF-22B, and MF-22C, covering key areas such as Electronics City Wipro Gate, Kodathi Wipro, Bommasandra, and Konappana Agrahara. These services are expected to significantly benefit commuters travelling in and around the Electronics City corridor, one of Bengaluru's busiest tech hubs. 'BMTC, which operates an average of 44 lakh passenger trips daily through 6,217 buses, has been expanding its metro feeder network since October 2023. Services were first launched at K.R. Puram railway station and BTM Layout bus stand, and have since grown to 45 routes and 214 schedules, carrying over 1.2 lakh passengers daily,' Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said after the launch of the feeder services. In Electronics City area alone, BMTC runs 3,000 trips on 100 routes, catering to 14,000 passengers per day. 'The corporation has also introduced QR code-based information systems at metro bus stops and inside trains, enabling commuters to access feeder bus schedules, live tracking, and other travel details on their phones,' Mr. Reddy added. Commuters have also welcomed the new feeder services. Mukund K. from the Save Sarjapura Association said: 'The recent addition of MF-22 and MF-22A routes is a huge boost to connectivity between the Hosur Road (Yellow) metro line and sections of Sarjapur Road. While this is a good start, the number of buses must be gradually increased to improve adoption.' 'We have also conveyed to the Transport Minister that the Dommasandra area of Sarjapur is experiencing extremely high growth due to the presence of the largest school district, along with its connectivity to Whitefield via SH-35 and to Electronics City via SH-168. BMTC should create a metro feeder route connecting Bommasandra metro to Dommasandra,' Mr. Mukund added.
