Perth Royal Show 2025: The countdown is on for another year of fun-filled adventure at Claremont Showgrounds

West Australian20 hours ago
The opening of sideshow alley might still be weeks away, but the countdown is officially on — there are just 44 days until the Perth Royal Show returns to Claremont Showground.
Excitement is building for the highly anticipated annual event, with a taste of what to expect on display inside Centenary Pavilion on Wednesday.
Camboon Primary School students got to get amongst the action.
Ten-year-old Astrid Snook said she cannot wait to come back to the showground with her mum when it officially opens to eat sweet food and pat the farm animals.
'I'm definitely excited for more bananas dipped in chocolate and the animals,' she said.
Astrid told The West she has gone to the Royal Show almost every year and won't be stopping anytime soon.
'I am going to keep going until I'm an old grandma and bring my kids because it's the best and really amazing,' she said.
Five-year-old Jacob Perry was showing off one of his eight pet cows to the city kids who, unlike him, don't see farm animals every day.
But for Jacob, the animals aren't the exciting part.
'I love going on the rides,' he said.
'Rollercoasters and the swing chairs are my favourite.'
The executive officer of the Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia, Robyn Sermon, revealed the upcoming show will feature new attractions, including exclusive rides and after-dark activities.
'To make this not an everyday event, we have locked in some amazing new attractions this year and more value, more variety,' Ms Sermon said.
'For the first time ever, in Perth, we will be welcoming the flying force. They are a Canadian based high diving team that will dive from a platform 25 meters above the arena into a three-meter deep pool.
'They will be doing that three times a day. It will be even more exciting at night, when we literally light them up.
'We will turn the arena into a 360 degree sky theatre, this (will be) the most innovative fireworks we've ever had, and we'll be wrapping the audience in colour, sound and light.
'We're launching a new late-night precinct, called Late Night Woodies, featuring fun, country-inspired music and entertainment, which will start after the fireworks every night.
'We are debuting a brand new ride, the 24-meter Luna Ritz, which has arrived from Europe and will debut in Australia for the first time at this year's Royal Show.'
It has been made possible thanks to a $2.8 million funding boost from the government and an additional $950,000 from Lotterywest.
Agricultural minister Jackie Jarvis said sh is proud to see the Royal Show's agricultural precinct continue to grow in popularity.
'We know side show alley is popular, we know the show bags are popular, but I could not be prouder that this show continues to go from strength to strength in supporting agriculture,' she said.
'Everything that's linked to agriculture and everything that is great about agriculture in Western Australia, you'll see here at the Perth Royal Show.'
Ms Jarvis hopes to match last years record breaking attendance number of more than 430,000 showgoers
A $600,000 program to support affiliated agricultural shows around the state was also announced on Wednesday in a government first.

Rosie O'Donnell shocks with new slimmed-down figure as she champions weight loss drug Mounjaro - after fleeing Trump's US for Ireland

Rosie O'Donnell has shocked with her new slimmed-down figure - after crediting controversial weight loss drug Mounjaro for the astonishing result. The 63-year-old, who has been embroiled in a long-running public feud with US President Donald Trump, has dramatically dropped down to a size 12. O'Donnell looks unrecognisable after the dramatic shift, which resulted in a face slimming effect. In a photo posted to Instagram on Wednesday, O'Donnell showed off her transformation in a slimming figure-hugging all-black athleisure outfit. The makeup-free snap showed the barefoot talk show host in a changing room on a shopping spree for new clothes ahead of a trip to Australia. O'Donnell will make her way Down Under in the coming weeks to perform her one-woman show, Common Knowledge, at Sydney's Opera House in October, where she will reflect on her recent move from the US to Ireland. Taking to the caption of her latest post, she praised Mounjaro for its "life-saving" effect on her overall confidence and ability to help shed weight. "Ok, so went shopping to buy a comfy lounge wear outfit for my 22-hour flight to Australia," O'Donnell wrote. "I was undecided as I can't see myself in this new, smaller body. "I am shocked, I'm a 12 - Mounjaro is a lifesaver." Mounjaro is an obesity medication that was initially used for treating type 2 diabetes until it gained popularity for its weight loss effects. The drug is in demand among Hollywood's elites as an alternative to conventional weight loss methods, which may not guarantee a lower number on the scale for people suffering underlying health conditions. O'Donnell's celebrity friends flocked to the comments to praise her trimmed-down figure, with actor Brad Garrett writing, "You look great". Meanwhile, Canadian singer Jann Arden said she was "super impressed" by the media personality's efforts, adding, "You look wonderful." "Snatched for the God," chimed actor Billy Porter. Another person said they were so glad O'Donnell was feeling healthier and happier after getting the help she needed to make a change. "You look fantastic. My mouth dropped. Gorgeous, but you always were," one more person said. "I love it! Very cute and looks comfortable! Excellent choice! Have a safe flight. You look fantastic," another fan said. O'Donnell was prescribed Mounjaro in January 2023 and said she immediately shed about 4kgs before dropping from an XL to a size 12. She took to TikTok in March to boast about her "shocking" new size. "I am on Mounjaro for my diabetes, and one of the side effects is you lose weight," O'Donnell said in a video. "But (the weight loss) is also because I had a chef for over two years in Los Angeles, and I don't have a chef now. "It's me cooking for (my son) Clay and me." It comes after O'Donnell moved from the US to her father's home country of Ireland with Clay in January after Trump's presidential re-election. At the time, she said she was "heartbroken" by the state of US politics amid her long-standing feud with the 78-year-old Republican. O'Donnell and Trump's long-standing disagreement dates back to 2006 when she publicly blasted him for holding a press conference to reinstate Miss USA Tara Conner, who had violated pageant guidelines. In response, Trump called O'Donnell 'a woman out of control', and the pair have since continued to wage a war of words on X, where he has said O'Donnell was "very vicious to him" and she "deserves" his disapproval.

Jeremy Piven: Entourage star labels Perth ‘meth capital of Australia' following recent visit

Best known for his work as no-filter Hollywood agent Ari Gold in HBO's Entourage, TV star Jeremy Piven has proven he hasn't quite shaken the character after labelling Perth the 'meth capital of Australia'. Attending the premiere of his latest film Primitive War in Sydney on Monday night, Piven was pushed to name his 'favourite place' Down Under after an extended period touring his stand-up show. But the comic's initial remarks were far from complimentary, at least towards the west coast. 'In the middle of my tour, we headed over to Perth, which is the meth capital of Australia... I don't know if you know that,' he told DailyMail. 'And so in the spirit of Donald Trump, I want to rename Perth, 'Merth'.' The 60-year-old performed at Mt Lawley's Astor Theatre on August 6, following an East Coast jaunt that featured stops in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, and later Adelaide. However, after laughing off the comments, the star changed his tune and dropped his favourite local hang out. 'The reality is, I went to a cigar bar called The Social Club there and it was one of the best cigar lounges I've ever been to in my life,' he revealed. The two-time Emmy winner may have been referring to Cigar Social, a private, members-only cigar lounge in West Perth. PerthNow reached out to Cigar Social, with the venue choosing not to confirm nor deny Piven's attendance. Speaking more broadly about his stand-up tour, the actor reflected on the warm reception he'd received across the nation. 'Every stop that I had, whether it was the Enmore Theatre here in Sydney or going to Melbourne and playing Hamer Hall, they were some of the best times I've ever had in my life,' he said. 'Sold out houses... It was just incredible. I loved it.' The actor stars alongside Australia's Ryan Kwanten and Canadian Tricia Helfer in Primitive War, a horror film set amid the Vietnam War that was filmed in the Gold Coast's jungle. It follows Piven's other Aussie production Numbered Lives, a thriller shot in South Australia last year that was released nationally earlier this month.
