In the post, Anas al-Sharif urged Gazans not to be silenced and called on them to be bridges toward the liberation of the country and its people
Al Jazeera reporter Anas al-Sharif, who was among five journalists killed in an Israeli strike near Gaza City's Al-Shifa Hospital, left a final message, calling on people not to forget Gaza.
Hours after his death, a lengthy message — described as his 'last will and testament", appeared on his social media account, reportedly posted by a friend after his death was confirmed.
'This is my last will and testament, my final message. If these words of mine reach you, know that Israel has succeeded in killing me and silencing my voice. Peace, mercy, and blessings of God be upon you. God knows that I have exerted all my effort and strength to be a support and voice for my people, ever since I opened my eyes to life in the alleys and neighborhoods of Jabalia refugee camp," the post read.
Anas Al-Sharif (@AnasAlSharif0) August 10, 2025
The 28-year-old journalist expressed a wish to return to his family in occupied Ashkelon (al-Majdal), but wrote that 'God's will was supreme and his judgement was final." He reflected on the repeated losses he had endured and vowed he had 'never hesitated to convey the truth as it is, without falsification or distortion."
In the post, al-Sharif urged Gazans not to be silenced and called on them to 'be bridges toward the liberation of the country and its people, so that the sun of dignity and freedom may shine upon our usurped homeland."
He also appealed for care for his wife, children, and mother, writing, 'If I die, I die steadfast in my principles… Do not forget Gaza. And do not forget me in your righteous prayers for forgiveness and acceptance."
Alongside al-Sharif, Al Jazeera said correspondent Mohammed Qreiqeh and cameramen Ibrahim Zaher, Moamen Aliwa, and Mohammed Noufal were killed in the same strike. The announcement was delivered live on air by a visibly emotional anchor.
Following the attack, the Israeli military acknowledged targeting the group, describing al-Sharif as a 'Hamas terrorist" and claiming he 'served as the head of a terrorist cell in Hamas" and was involved in rocket attacks.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said intelligence and documents from Gaza proved his affiliation.
The Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate condemned the killings, calling them a 'bloody crime" and an act of assassination.

Woman held in Delhi for smuggling 12.55 kg cannabis from West Bengal via train

New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) A 38-year-old woman was arrested in Delhi for allegedly transporting more than 12 kilogram of cannabis concealed in trolley bag from West Bengal via train, police said on Monday. According to police, she was supplying the contraband as part of an interstate drug supply network. The accused, Archana Manna, from Kolkata, was arrested at Ashram Flyover while travelling in an autorickshaw with her daughter and two grandchildren, they said. Preliminary investigation revealed that Manna, moved to Delhi in 2014 and has been working as a domestic help. Her husband died two decades ago. She was allegedly lured into drug trafficking by acquaintances in Govind Puri, who offered her Rs 10,000 for each delivery. Police said she was trained by the network in using encrypted apps and deleting call logs to avoid detection. Videos found on her phone showed her discussing the quality of ganja during purchase, they added. They said that 12.55 kilogram of ganja, packed in 12 polythene packets and concealed in a trolley bag, was seized from her possession. The contraband was confirmed to be ganja by a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team at the spot, they said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Harsh Indora said the operation followed specific intelligence received on June 16 about a woman transporting cannabis from Odisha and West Bengal to Delhi by train. Police were deployed at Kashmere Gate railway station to monitor the suspect. The accused managed to slip out of the station amid the rush but was later traced to an autorickshaw heading towards Govind Puri. She was intercepted at Ashram Flyover and the narcotics were seized after due legal procedures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act. The accused has been booked under the NDPS Act and further investigation into the supply chain, believed to operate across Odisha, West Bengal, and Delhi, is continuing.
