Three people face charges in connection to a murder in Las Vegas, New Mexico

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Three people are facing charges after police say they worked together to kill a man and burn his body in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Jose Eversole, Samantha Montoya and Luciano Meza are facing charges in connection to the murder in May. State workforce initiative gives thousands of New Mexicans a path to high-wage careers According to the arrest affidavits, New Mexico State Police responded to reports of a burned vehicle in rural San Miguel County on June 10. At the scene, officers discovered human remains in the trunk and on the ground nearby. Investigators determined the car belonged to Hayden Alter, who had been reported missing on May 21. NMSP says Alter's family told them he was living in a rehab center in Albuquerque and had taken a trip to Las Vegas on May 16, but had stopped contacting family a few days later. A witness told investigators he had been picked up by Eversole, Montoya and Alter around midnight on the night of May 19. The witness said they went to hang out at the home of Meza. When they arrived, the witness said Meza accused Alter of being a cop, then punched him before a shot rang out. The witness said they didn't see the shooting, but did see Eversole pointing a gun at Alter, who had been shot in the head. The witness told police they saw Eversole and Montoya move Alter's body into his own car, before driving away. The next day, Eversole told the witness he had burned everything and no one would find the body. The witness also claimed Meza threatened them with a gun and said not to talk about what happened. Eversole is facing charges including murder and arson. Montoya faces charges for conspiracy and tampering with evidence. Meza is facing charges for intimidation of a witness. Police watchdog clears Windsor police officers in arrest that left man with fractured ribs

The agency that performs investigations of Ontario police actions has cleared Windsor police officers of criminal wrongdoing in an arrest that sent a 54-year-old man to hospital. The case dates back to April 23, according to a news release from the Special Investigations Unit. Windsor Police Service officers were helping sheriffs evict a man from a building in the area of Walker Road and Seminole Street because the tenant had reacted with hostility to the sheriffs' earlier presence and refused to vacate the premises, the SIU said. The officers entered the unit and arrested the tenant after a struggle. He was taken to hospital and diagnosed with multiple right-sided rib fractures. SIU Director Joseph Martino assessed the evidence in the case and found no reasonable grounds to believe that any officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the man's arrest and injuries.

Chicago cop allegedly involved Wicker Park bar fight sought video of attack before investigators

Already under investigation for the on-duty shooting of his partner Krystal Rivera, Chicago Police Officer Carlos Baker may have misrepresented himself and violated department policy in the aftermath of a bar fight in Wicker Park last weekend. Baker is being investigated by the Chicago Office of Police Accountability after police were called to DSTRKT Bar and Grill on North Milwaukee Ave. around 11 p.m. Sunday where a 29-year-old woman, also an off-duty police officer, alleged she was attacked by multiple people including fellow officer Baker. While reporting on the initial incident, CBS News Chicago learned from an employee at a neighboring business that Baker called their shop, identified himself as a police officer investigating the bar fight — in which he is actually listed as a suspect — and asked for access to the surveillance cameras. The employee showed CBS News Chicago the business' caller ID, which showed a name matching Baker's mother and a time stamp, 3:01 p.m. Wednesday, as news was breaking about the bar fight. When a CBS News Chicago reporter called the number and left a voicemail, she promptly received a call back by a man who identified himself as Carlos Baker. He asked if "our restaurant" cameras are working and if they had video of the Sunday night incident. When told he was speaking to a reporter, Baker hung up. Baker has ben on administrative leave from CPD since June, when police said he accidentally fatally shot Rivera during a foot chase during a tactical operation. Baker was never charged criminally for Rivera's death, but was placed on paid administrative leave per department protocol. Chicago police say Baker is now on medical leave but has not been stripped of his police powers. He still has his badge and service weapon, but any officer on medical or administrative leave cannot participate in police investigations. CBS News Chicago Investigators have found at least 10 complaints filed against Baker since he was hired in 2021, which include a variety of allegations ranging from excessive force to improper stops and unprofessional behavior.
