Police watchdog clears Windsor police officers in arrest that left man with fractured ribs
The case dates back to April 23, according to a news release from the Special Investigations Unit.
Windsor Police Service officers were helping sheriffs evict a man from a building in the area of Walker Road and Seminole Street because the tenant had reacted with hostility to the sheriffs' earlier presence and refused to vacate the premises, the SIU said.
The officers entered the unit and arrested the tenant after a struggle.
He was taken to hospital and diagnosed with multiple right-sided rib fractures.
SIU Director Joseph Martino assessed the evidence in the case and found no reasonable grounds to believe that any officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the man's arrest and injuries.

Mali's military rulers arrest 2 generals, a suspected French agent and others in alleged coup plot
BAMAKO, Mali — Mali's military rulers said Thursday they have arrested a group of military personnel and civilians, including two Malian generals and a suspected French agent, accused of attempting to destabilize the country . The announcement followed rumors in recent days of arrests of Malian army officers and was made by Mali's security minister, Gen. Daoud Aly Mohammedine on the evening news on the local media. It comes amid an ongoing crackdown on dissent by Mali's military following the country's pro-democracy rally in May , the first since soldiers seized power nearly four years ago. The military provided no details about the alleged coup plot or the French national implicated in it. Mali, along with neighboring Burkina Faso and Niger, has long battled an insurgency by armed militants, including some allied with al-Qaida and the Islamic State group. Following two military coups, the ruling junta expelled French troops and instead turned to Russia for security assistance. But the security situation remains precarious, and attacks from extremist groups linked with al-Qaida intensified in recent months. In June, military leader Gen. Assimi Goita, was granted an additional five years in power , despite the junta's earlier promises of a return to civilian rule by March 2024. The move followed the military's dissolution of political parties in May.

Three people face charges in connection to a murder in Las Vegas, New Mexico
NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Three people are facing charges after police say they worked together to kill a man and burn his body in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Jose Eversole, Samantha Montoya and Luciano Meza are facing charges in connection to the murder in May. State workforce initiative gives thousands of New Mexicans a path to high-wage careers According to the arrest affidavits, New Mexico State Police responded to reports of a burned vehicle in rural San Miguel County on June 10. At the scene, officers discovered human remains in the trunk and on the ground nearby. Investigators determined the car belonged to Hayden Alter, who had been reported missing on May 21. NMSP says Alter's family told them he was living in a rehab center in Albuquerque and had taken a trip to Las Vegas on May 16, but had stopped contacting family a few days later. A witness told investigators he had been picked up by Eversole, Montoya and Alter around midnight on the night of May 19. The witness said they went to hang out at the home of Meza. When they arrived, the witness said Meza accused Alter of being a cop, then punched him before a shot rang out. The witness said they didn't see the shooting, but did see Eversole pointing a gun at Alter, who had been shot in the head. The witness told police they saw Eversole and Montoya move Alter's body into his own car, before driving away. The next day, Eversole told the witness he had burned everything and no one would find the body. The witness also claimed Meza threatened them with a gun and said not to talk about what happened. Eversole is facing charges including murder and arson. Montoya faces charges for conspiracy and tampering with evidence. Meza is facing charges for intimidation of a witness. Mother charged after child tests positive for cocaine in Albuquerque
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Another mother is facing child abuse charges after police said her eight-year-old tested positive for cocaine. Mercedes Barfoot made her first appearance in court on Tuesday. Albuquerque mother facing charges after child overdosed will stay in jail A criminal complaint stated that the boy and two other siblings had been under New Mexico Children, Youth, and Family Department care during the past two years after all three children tested posted for drugs. The state had recently placed the eight-year-old on a trial home visit with his mother. The criminal complaint showed that the CYFD worker conducted several scheduled and surprise visits to the home and removed him after the worker found drug paraphernalia. The boy told CYFD he didn't want to be alive anymore, so they took him to the hospital, where police said he tested positive for cocaine. CYFD sent this statement: CYFD is glad that MG is safe due to the diligent efforts of the CYFD worker in this case. The timeline outlined in the criminal complaint shows that the CYFD worker conducted several visits, both scheduled and unscheduled, to check on the safety of MG. These steps resulted in the CYFD intervention and removal of MG to ensure the child's safety. Substance misuse and addiction continue to be a major problem in New Mexico and CYFD will continue our steadfast work to protect and support the children and youth who are vulnerable.
