Multiply Group Makes Bold Leap Into Europe With 1.3 Bln Euros Acquisition Of Spain's Tendam

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (Bernama) -- In a landmark European entry, Abu Dhabi's Multiply Group has acquired a 67.91 per cent majority stake in Tendam, Spain's second-largest apparel company, in a transaction valued at 5.6 billion UAE dirhams (1.3 billion euros) enterprise value. (1 Euro = RM4.95)
According to Multiply in a statement, the deal cements the group's position as a rising force in the global Retail & Apparel space and doubles its operational earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) post-consolidation.
Multiply now has a majority interest in Castellano Investments S.À R.L. (the owner of Tendam Brands S.A.U. and other subsidiaries), with Llano Holdings S.À R.L. and Arcadian Investments S.À R.L., the corporate investment vehicles for CVC Funds and PAI Partners, remaining as minority shareholders.
Multiply Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director, Samia Bouazza called the deal a "strategic entry" into a high-performing sector, noting the platform's potential to scale globally through technology, brand agility, and Multiply's expertise in value creation.
Meanwhile, Tendam Chairman and CEO, Jaume Miquel echoed the optimism, hailing the start of a 'new era' that will unlock greater brand potential and profitability through digital innovation.
The investment positions Tendam as the cornerstone of Multiply Group's new Retail & Apparel vertical, giving the group a strategic springboard for international expansion, especially across Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East.
Multiply aims to embed artificial intelligence (AI) across Tendam's operations—from supply chain to customer experience—while exploring targeted mergers and acquisitions (M&A) to grow its brand universe.
Tendam, an omnichannel retail powerhouse with over 1,800 outlets and digital reach across more than 80 markets, brings a diverse fashion portfolio including Women'secret, Springfield, Cortefiel, and Pedro del Hierro. Its market footprint spans Spain, Portugal, France, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Latin America.
The transaction saw advice from top firms including Greenhill, Hogan Lovells, and KPMG for Multiply; Uria Menendez for Castellano; and Ramón Hermosilla Abogados and Latham & Watkins LLP for Tendam.

The action, which is being supported by HOTREC and more than 30 national hotel associations, will be heard by a Dutch court and coordinated by the Hotel Claims Alliance. TOKYO: Nissan Motor has begun negotiations with the union representing staff at its European regional office about changes that will include job losses, according to a company document and internal emails. The struggling Japanese automaker, which has embarked on a major restructuring, confirmed it has entered consultations with staff representatives at Nissan Automotive Europe, its regional office in Montigny-le-Bretonneux, France, which has around 560 staff. The office, which also oversees Nissan's operations for Africa, the Middle East, India and Oceania, is set to undergo major changes, according to a person with knowledge of the issue who declined to be identified. Management and the union agreed to discuss voluntary redundancies before any forced layoffs, the document seen by Reuters showed. Talks are expected to conclude by October 20, with full details to be shared with staff in November, the document and the emails said. "We are working diligently and respectfully with all parties to ensure that this process is conducted with care, transparency and in full compliance with legal requirements," Massimiliano Messina, Nissan's vice chairperson for the region, said in a July 31 email. Messina also said in the email that no decisions had yet been made. After taking the helm in April, CEO Ivan Espinosa announced a sweeping restructuring that includes cutting about 15 per cent of Nissan's workforce, slashing global production capacity by nearly 30 per cent to 2.5 million vehicles and the number of its manufacturing sites to 10 from 17. BP has made its largest oil and gas discovery in 25 years offshore Brazil, it said on Monday, in a potential big boost for the British company following its strategic shift away from renewable energy to refocus on fossil fuels. BP is seeking to bolster oil and gas in its portfolio to regain investor confidence and revive underperforming shares. It said it planned to create a major new output hub at the Bumerangue discovery in Brazil, which a BP spokesperson said was probably the company's biggest since Shah Deniz in 1999, a gas and condensate field in the Azeri part of the Caspian Sea. Shah Deniz, with around 1 trillion cubic metres of gas and 2 billion barrels of condensate initially in place, produced 28 billion standard cubic metres of gas last year, according to BP. It gave no reserve estimate for the Brazilian block. "Brazil is an important country for BP, and our ambition is to explore the potential of establishing a material and advantaged production hub in the country," said Gordon Birrell, BP's production and operations chief. BP shares gained 1.3 per cent by 1107 GMT, outperforming a broader index of European energy companies which was up 0.1 per cent. This find may well see BP's upstream portfolio longevity extending well into the 2030s/40s, and it is this that has been the biggest issue and concern," Bernstein analyst Irene Himona said in a note. "Although we cannot extrapolate as it is too early, and each well and each reservoir is different, we believe the data ... provides support that the potential scale for this 100 per cent BP discovery could be a game changer." BP, which forecast its oil and gas production at 2.3 million to 2.5 million barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2030, said this was its tenth discovery this year, following findings in Trinidad, Egypt, Brazil and others. Production in 2024 was 2.4 million barrels of oil equivalent. BP expects production to be lower in 2025. BP had secured the Bumerangue block in the Santos basin amid pre-salt rocks in deep water offshore Brazil in December 2022 with what it said were "very good commercial terms". Early results indicate elevated levels of carbon dioxide in the Brazilian block, BP said, adding that further analysis would give more insight into its potential amid a bigger drilling programme in Brazil. Fellow London-listed rival Shell this year made a final investment decision for another project in the Santos Basin. BP is set to report its second-quarter results on Tuesday.
