The Unique Identification Authority of India UIDAI ) has begun sharing non-personal, anonymised data from the Aadhaar dashboard on the open government data platform, data.gov.in, an official release said on Monday. The move aims to promote transparency, research, and data-driven policy-making The datasets, released by Chief Data Officer (CDO) and Deputy Director General of UIDAI, include aggregated insights on Aadhaar enrolment, updates, and authentication patterns, categorised by geography, age-group and other relevant parameters, the release said, announcing that UIDAI has started sharing non-personal Aadhaar dashboard data in the interest of transparency and research."By making these non-personal and anonymised datasets accessible, UIDAI aims to support academic research, innovation in digital services, and collaborative developments," the release added.According to the Aadhaar-issuing body, the initiative opens new avenues for evidence-based policy-making and technological innovation, furthering UIDAI's commitment to transparency, public good, and secure data governance."It also aligns with the broader government vision of fostering evidence-based policy making and maximising the value of open data for the public good," it said adding that the move is expected to spur digital inclusion and governance efficiency.

The revamped portal, accessible at streamlines applications for UPSC's 14 annual exams, such as the Civil Services Examination, Combined Defence Services Examination, and National Defence Academy Examination, through a four-step process - account creation, universal registration, a standardised application form, and exam-specific submissions. As on June 4, roughly 2.65 lakh accounts were registered, with 1.13 lakh users completing universal registration, 1.05 lakh of whom opted for Aadhaar verification. Approximately 60,000 candidates submitted the common application form, while 55,000 applications remained under review. UPSC chairman Ajay Kumar reportedly said they have removed repetitive data entry, enabling candidates to reuse their details across exams for a seamless and efficient experience. Marking a historic shift, the UPSC had adopted Aadhaar authentication for the first time on August 28, 2024 to implement the voluntary Aadhaar verification using Yes/No or e-KYC methods during registration and exams. In the Puja Khedkar case, the former IAS probationer allegedly submitted 12 forged documents to bypass attempt limits for the 2022 Civil Services Examination. The UPSC nullified her candidature, filed a criminal case, and the DoPT dismissed her from service. Ms Khedkar, denying the charges, is contesting the decisions in court. To further tighten security, the UPSC issued a tender for public sector companies, with a deadline of July 30, 2025 to deploy advanced verification systems. The chosen company will enter a three-year contract, receiving candidate details - name, roll number, and photo - seven days prior to exams for Aadhaar-based fingerprint and facial recognition authentication. Exam centers will be equipped with fingerprint scanners and facial recognition devices, using data from online Aadhaar registrations. The contracted company is prohibited from entering exam venues for verification. Exam rooms will also feature AI-powered CCTV cameras, with a minimum of one camera per 24 candidates, programmed to detect suspicious activities like unauthorised movement, prolonged invigilator loitering, disorganised setups, or activity one hour before or after exams. Real-time alerts will flag irregularities, with penalties imposed for disabled cameras or failed verifications. All exam data must be transferred to the UPSC post-exam, with strict protocols ensuring candidate data remains confidential and provisions for accessibility for disabled candidates. Haryana: Affordable housing e-draw portal to be linked with Aadhaar to tackle irregularities
GURUGRAM : Govt's online portal for drawing of lots in affordable housing schemes will directly cross-check and verify applicant details with information in the Aadhaar card to make the process more transparent and eliminate chances of duplication or manipulation. Officials of the department of town and country planning (DTCP) said on Friday that the updated portal – called TCP Haryana – will fetch applicant details such as name, address and mobile number from the Aadhaar card. This will prevent manual data entry errors and manipulation while ensuring that only eligible candidates are considered for allotments. The move comes in response to irregularities uncovered in the 2023 housing draw of Aster Avenue 36 in Sector 36, Sohna. During the draw of lots for 702 flats at the society, those with addresses given as 'Sohna City' were considered eligible for the scheme, limiting the pool to 2,200 entries out of 51,000 applicants. This was blamed on a technical error. Cross-checking with Aadhaar would do away with chances of such errors, officials said. The Aster Avenue draw was cancelled after an internal probe, and a fresh draw was conducted. But 26 applicants were found to have been repeated in both the shortlists, raising more concerns about fairness and the integrity of the system. "Going forward, the Aadhaar-linked system will automatically populate the applicant's details and verify if they have previously been allotted flats under any affordable housing scheme. If found ineligible, their application will be auto-rejected by the system," said Renuka Singh, senior town planner, DTCP. "All past applicant data from earlier schemes is now being integrated into this upgraded software," Singh said. Additionally, the system will prevent any duplicate entries and ensure that no one can bypass eligibility rules. The new mechanism is expected to significantly reduce the administrative burden and potential biases associated with manual data handling. The Aster Avenue 36 matter is currently pending before the Punjab and Haryana high court, and the next hearing is scheduled for July 9. Applicants who were declared successful in the original draw have yet to receive refunds, while allotment letters for 702 flats drawn in the second round remain on hold because of ongoing legal proceedings.

Sources confirm that all preparations for the operation have been finalised, with municipal enforcement teams and police machinery put on high alert to evict the vendors across various phases and sectors. What started as a few hundreds has exploded over the years. A survey conducted by the civic body earlier recorded around 1,000 vendors, but officials say the actual count is more than double the number, severely affecting the commercial landscape. 'These vendors have formed unions and call themselves shopkeepers, alleging that anyone who objects is silenced through collective intimidation. Even councillors admit that some shopkeepers are renting out space in front of their shops to these vendors, complicating the problem.' Residents and traders argue that most vendors are not even from Mohali but commute daily from Chandigarh and Punjab, and do not pay any local taxes. 'Our own legal businesses pay taxes to run day-to-day operations while these vendors sell underpriced counterfeit goods,' a Phase 3B2 shopowner disclosed. Reeling from pressure, a public meeting was held under the chairmanship of Joint Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh to demand swift action. 'The Mayor and MC Commissioner are also collecting Aadhaar and Voter IDs of illegal vendors,' said an official. The civic body has already identified more than 1,000 illegal vendors through a special survey. Officials confirmed that a strict deadline has been set after which all unauthorised vendors will soon be removed.
