Reports: AL East leading Blue Jays make early move for Orioles pitcher

Yahoo6 days ago
The AL East leading Blue Jays made an early move ahead of Thursday's trade deadline.
Toronto acquired hard-throwing reliever Seranthony Dominguez from the Orioles, per multiple reports. To land Dominguez, the Blue Jays sent 23-year-old right-hander Juaron Watts-Brown to Baltimore, the 10th ranked prospect in their system per MLB Pipeline.
In 43 appearances for the Orioles this season, the 30-year-old Dominguez posted a 3.24 ERA with a 1.344 WHIP. His two-year, $7.5 million contract expires at season's end, so he's a rental for the Blue Jays.
Dominguez won't have to travel far — just across the ballpark — as the Blue Jays are currently in Baltimore for a Tuesday night game.
As for the Red Sox, they entered the evening in third place in the AL East, trailing Toronto by six games.

Roman Anthony's Sister Goes Viral Amid Massive Contract Extension

Roman Anthony's Sister Goes Viral Amid Massive Contract Extension originally appeared on The Spun. Boston Red Sox rookie Roman Anthony and his family have 130 million reasons to celebrate this week. Anthony, who was named the top prospect in baseball last September, has already emerged as a legitimate playmaker for Boston, owning a .276 batting average with two homers and 19 RBI. On Wednesday, the Red Sox rewarded Anthony with an eight-year, $130 million contract extension. They announced the signing before their game against the Kansas City Royals. "I couldn't think of a better city to play in [for] the next eight to nine years of my life," Anthony said. "And I'm super excited. I want to thank all the fans who show up every day and continue to support us regardless of the outcome. It's really just a special place to play and a special place to show up every single day. I couldn't be more excited for this and couldn't be more thankful for everyone in this room and everyone who's helped me get here today."Anthony's sister, Lia, shared an Instagram post about his contract extension along with a short but sweet message. "So beyond proud of you," Lia wrote on her Instagram Story. Anthony's sister has become quite popular in the MLB world. She bursted onto the scene during her brother's second career game as a member of the Red Sox. After Anthony recorded the first hit of his MLB career, the TV cameras were fixated on his sister. Unsurprisingly, it didn't take long for fans to discover her Instagram account. As of now, Anthony's sister has around 37,200 followers. Back in June, the rookie outfielder said his family has been with him "every step" during his journey to the MLB. We doubt he minds sharing the spotlight with his sister. Besides, Anthony praised his Red Sox teammates immediately after signing his contract extension Wednesday. "It's super exciting when you talk about how young we are and the mix that we have of the great veteran guys that we have," Anthony said, via "So there's a lot to be excited about … and knowing that in this process was a big reason as to why I wanted to stay here and be with those guys and grow with those guys." The Red Sox will return to action Friday night against the San Diego Padres. We'll see if Anthony continues his great rookie season. Nick Robertson, Maple Leafs Avoid Arbitration With $1.825M One-Year Contract Agreement

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Nick Robertson have reportedly reached a settlement ahead of their arbitration case that was scheduled for Sunday. According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, both sides agreed to a contract with a $1.825 million average annual value. The Leafs confirmed it is a one-yeal deal. When a player elects for salary arbitration, the team can choose whether it would be a one or two-year deal, except in the case when the second year eats into the eligibility of unrestricted fee agency. Toronto could have opted for two years in Robertson's case. According to it's a one-year deal, which reduced the available cap space on Toronto's books to $1,107,222 based on a roster of 24 players. Robertson was the last of the 11 player-elected salary arbitration cases in the NHL to be settled, thereby avoiding a hearing. On Friday, Friedman reported that the Leafs submitted comparables with an ask of $2.25 million while the team came in with $1.2 million. Had the case not been settled ahead of the hearing, an arbitrator would have had the final say on Robertson's compensation for the 2025-26 season. 'He's Gone Through Some Stuff Here': Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving Excited to Have Nick Robertson Back A new coach and a clean slate await Nick Robertson who reports to Maple Leafs training camp next week. Robertson established career highs in goals (15) and games (69) last season but was limited to just three of Toronto's 13 playoff games due to lineup decisions. With star forward Mitch Marner departing the Leafs for the Vegas Golden Knights this summer, players like Robertson will be counted on to fill the void Marner leaves behind on a by-committee basis. Drafted by the Leafs in the second round (53rd overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft, Robertson has 32 goals and 24 assists in 156 career games spread over five seasons. (Top image credit: Dan Hamilton-Imagn Images) Maple Leafs Risk Major Mistake If Nick Robertson Isn't Signed Or Traded Before Arbitration It should come as no surprise that Nick Robertson's pending player-elected arbitration case is the last of all cases this offseason to reach a conclusion. After all, Robertson's tenure with the Toronto Maple Leafs has undeniably been complicated. Drafted by the Maple Leafs in the second round (53rd overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft, his six years in Toronto have been filled with more downs than ups.
