Patti LuPone apologizes for remarks about Kecia Lewis, Audra Macdonald

May 31 (UPI) -- Patti LuPone has apologized for her recent remarks about her fellow Broadway stars Kecia Lewis and Audra Mcdonald after hundreds of members of the New York theater community attempted to get LuPone disinvited to the Tony Awards.
"For as long as I have worked in the theatre, I have spoken my mind and never apologized. That is changing today," LuPone said in an Instagram post Saturday.
"I am deeply sorry for the words I used during The New Yorker interview, particularly about Kecia Lewis, which were demeaning and disrespectful," she added, referring to comments that appeared at the end of a wide-ranging article published online May 26.
"I regret my flippant and emotional responses during this interview, which were inappropriate, and I am devastated that my behavior has offended others and has run counter to what we hold dear in this community. I hope to have a chance to speak to Audra [McDonald] and Kecia personally to offer my sincere apologies."
Variety said an open letter -- signed by about 500 people connected to the New York theater community -- made the rounds Friday, condemning LuPone's remarks and asking the organizers of the Tony Awards to ban her from Broadway's biggest night.

Cardi B's Boyfriend Seemingly Reacts to Offset's ‘PR' Comments
Cardi B's boyfriend, Stefon Diggs, seemingly gave a crafty response to Offset's latest remarks. The Grammy winner's ex-husband apparently took a dig at her latest online posts, officially announcing her relationship with the star NFL player. The photos captured a few intimate moments between the new couple as they enjoyed a perfect romantic getaway on a yacht. Reportedly, Offset threw a 'PR' shade at the pair through a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter). It also included a GIF of a person tossing a basketball with 'TODAY I PASS' written on it. However, the posts were immediately deleted. But it seemed the damage had been done as Diggs' Instagram Story appeared to be a response to the Migos rapper's comments. Stefon Diggs currently grabbed attention with his latest Instagram Story, which seemed to be a clap back to Offset's remarks. The latter's now-deleted comments on X (formerly Twitter) raised eyebrows among fans, who believed the ex-husband was taking a dig at Cardi B and her new boyfriend. The New England Patriots' wide receiver didn't react to Cardi B's official announcement about their relationship. However, he seemingly didn't hold back when her estranged spouse took a dig at their romance. In response to Offset's now-deleted post, Diggs seemingly posted a black-and-white photo of himself on his Instagram story. The picture showed him catching a football, which hyped fans' speculations, claiming the footballer caught Offset's 'pass.' Prior to this, Cardi B gained attention on social media when she slammed her ex-husband on X Spaces. The singer expressed her emotions online and directed her anger at Offset for asking for spousal support during their divorce proceedings.
