Huawei Watch 5 and Watch Fit 4 unveiled in Berlin alongside new earbuds & tablet
Huawei has taken the wraps off its new range of wearables including a flagship smartwatch available in two sizes and eight colours to suit every stylish need.
The pioneering Chinese tech firm also announced a new fitness wearable, new earphones and a cutting-edge tablet to take on Apple iPad Pro just like last year's MatePad Pro which we tested and found had the best display tech on any tablet you can buy.
The new wearables join the company's Watch D2 which late last year became the world's first certified wrist-based ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) device.
Huawei's summer 2025 wearables follow the company's long standing tradition of being compatible with both iOS and Android devices and deliver at least week-long battery life and are among the most powerful health and fitness trackers you can buy. You can make or take phone calls on them and keep in touch with your smartphone notifications as much or as little as you like.
Here's everything you need to know about the four products Huawei launched for summer 2025…
The latest flagship Huawei wearable comes in two sizes, 42mm and 46mm, and eight colours including two new hues, purple and sand gold. The stylish smartwatch comes with aerospace-grade titanium, a premium stainless steel casing, spherical sapphire glass, with the promise of exceptional corrosion and wear resistance. Previous Huawei watches I tested have all been super durable.
Tech on board Watch 5 includes the firm's TruSense System which integrates a new multi-sensing set-up that enables users to perform health monitoring effortlessly with fingertip measurements that the company said results in more accurate and comprehensive health insights. Gesture controls on the wearable have been enhanced too.
Huawei's main fitness wearable Watch Fit 4 comes in two options, one covering essential needs, with a Pro model adding offline contour maps, checkpoint navigation and a professional trail running mode.
The series also introduces water sports tracking and a new air pressure sensor that the company said boosts outdoor sports data measurement accuracy.
The Pro model also introduces high-end materials such as sapphire glass and aviation-grade aluminium casings with titanium alloy bezels. Featuring an ultra-thin and comfortable build, the Watch Fit 4 Pro is just 9.3mm thin.
It supports advanced sports modes such as diving to a depth of up to 40 metres and pro-level golfing.
Like all Huawei wearables, the new devices ensure you suffer no daily recharging anxiety as they all come with incredible stamina. This means they are perfect for travel, long training sessions or weekend getaways.
The company's new open-fit earbuds Freebuds 6 are equipped with a dual-driver audio system, delivering strong, punchy bass, sweet trebles and support for high-resolution formats. Huawei said features like Stable and Clear Calls mean users will get fuss-free communication.
One of the biggest selling points of the new earphones is the sleek, ergonomic droplet design that the firm said is a perfect balance between comfort and style.
Hot on the heels of last year's incredible tablet is another 12.2in tablet boasting the supreme Tandem OLED PaperMatte Display to boost screen brightness while enhancing anti-glare and anti-reflection capabilities.
The included Huawei Glide Keyboard delivers a PC-standard typing and carrying experience, and comes with a handy charging compartment that can store the stylus.
Huawei Watch 5 is available now from the Huawei Store, with prices starting from €499.99 for both the 42mm and 46mm models.
Huawei Watch Fit 4 costs €169.99 and Watch Fit 4 Pro costs €279.99. Both are available now from the Huawei Store.
FreeBuds 6 are available to order from today from the Huawei Store.
Pricing and availability for the new MatePad Pro 12.2in 2025 will be confirmed separately.

OnePlus Pad 3 1st impressions: can an Android tablet finally replace my laptop?
On-fire tech brand OnePlus has launched OnePlus Pad 3, a flagship tablet fusing supercharged hardware with clever software and AI features. It comes hot on the heels of the OnePlus Pad 2 which I said was 'ideal for streaming TV shows, watching movies, reading e-books and magazines and browsing websites'. It was one of a number of tablets we reviewed last year that hoped to challenge the dominance of Apple iPad in the market. Huawei matched Apple in terms of hardware on its MatePad Pro 12.2. We said the Paper Matte Edition had a superior display to every other tablet including Apple's flagship iPad Pro in our review. However, hardware is only half the story on tablets and apart from the excellent free GoPaint app that rivals the iPad-only Procreate app, Huawei's MatePad Pro fell way short of what iPad offers in software. That's because of the range of iPad optimised apps which makes it easy for Apple. We also reviewed the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+ which is a similar size to OnePlus Pad 3 but costs almost double the price. It was probably the most complete Android tablet I've tested yet but did not offer enough compelling features to challenge Apple's flagship iPad Pro. The OnePlus Pad 2 was probably closest to the mid-range iPad Air series. It was "a device with zippy performance, a bright and colourful display, powerful speakers and outstanding battery life. And it was powered by last year's high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip along with a decent 12GB of RAM". Now along comes the OnePlus Pad 3 and I've decided to test it for an upcoming full review by ditching my Windows laptop for a couple of weeks to see if the Android tablet can replace the notebook for both work and play. In the meantime, here are my first impressions… The OnePlus Pad 3 sure looks the part. Measuring less than 6mm thin, the device has a metal unibody design to ensure it is super strong and bend resistant. It weighs just 675g so it's light enough to take everywhere with you. My review unit is a hue that the company calls Storm Blue. The tablet's large, pin-sharp, 13.2in LCD display comes with 3.4k resolution, 12-bit colour depth and pixel density of 315 PPI (pixels per inch). It's perfect for displaying everything from the latest blockbuster movie to your latest work presentation. And its unique 7:5 aspect ratio means multitasking is an absolute breeze. Eight symmetrically placed speakers - four woofers and four tweeters - add to the immersive media consumption experience. Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite, the most powerful mobile system-on-a-chip on the market, coupled with up to 16GB that should be all the power you need for high-end productivity or intensive gaming. The model I'm testing only has 12GB of RAM but I haven't noticed any lag or stutter - it is breezing through everything I throw at it. Battery life is rated at up to 17 hours which is almost double some rival tablets. Overall, the new OnePlus Pad 3 combines a premium hardware and software experience at an iPad Air price point. I'm looking forward to testing the machine out fully in the coming days and weeks. I'm using it with the firm's latest Smart Keyboard. It seamlessly connects to the tablet using the built-in pogo pins and no Bluetooth connection is needed. The accompanying stand can be adjusted to a range of angles, just like a laptop. OnePlus Pad 3 is on sale at for €599 (12GB/256GB) and €699 (16GB/512GB). The Stylo accessory is €99, the Smart Keyboard is €169 and the folio case is €59. The 13in Apple iPad Air, for comparison, costs from €979 from

Social media giant TikTok wins ‘stay' on order banning data transfers to China
Mr Justice Mark Sanfey said the stay would be in place until early October when the court will hear an application by TikTok seeking a longer stay until the court hears the full challenge to the DPC decision which included a €530m fine on TikTok. The judge, who heads the Commercial Court, also granted TikTok an application to have the case admitted to the fast track commercial list. The court heard there was no objection to entry from the DPC. The judge was told TikTok are claiming they face billions in losses if the decision stands and if they did not get a stay until the full case is heard. He said the justice of case required he would grant a stay until October. The court could not hear an application for the stay in July, as TikTok wanted, because the DPC needed time to prepare its case to oppose the stay. Earlier, Declan McGrath SC, for TikTok, said his client estimates losses post the suspension will run into billions with losses already running at €109m. He was very much pressing the case for an interim stay on the suspension decision. Counsel said the DPC decision is that data transfers from countries in the European Economic Area (EEA) – which includes all the EU along with Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway – to China must cease. The data is not in China and is stored outside, but Chinese engineers can access it. The DPC order requires that this remote access is to cease and that the processing of the data must be brought into compliance which addresses potential issues around storing of data. The date on which this "corrective order" takes place is six months from 28 days after the order is made, which is the period within which an appeal must be brought. That means there must be compliance by November 29, counsel said. TikTok is also required to show by July that it has taken steps towards compliance, how it is to be implemented and how it will be communicated to service users within the EEA, he said. This was also why there was an urgency to the stay application. The cost of this to TikTok will include having to relocate engineers and hire new ones in the EEA and other irreversible steps which represent damages that cannot be recouped, he said. It also impacts on taxation and other matters, including loss of goodwill. Kelley Smith SC, for the DPC, said she was not in a position to agree to any of Mr McGrath's application. She said her side needed time to prepare given the volume of paperwork in the case. Mr Justice Sanfey approved directions for the progress of the stay application in October and said the case could also be mentioned before a vacation sitting of the Commercial Court in September.

Contactless payments up, ATM transactions down
Analysis of Bank of Ireland customer behaviour during the first three months of this year shows that contactless payments rose while ATM usage was down compared to the same period in last year. eCommerce contactless transactions including digital wallets, Apple Pay and Google Pay, increased by 3%, with contactless 'tap and go' payments rising 1% compared to the first quarter of 2024. Over 3 million eCommerce and 'tap and go' contactless payments took place on 28 February, making it the busiest day during the first quarter. While contactless payment levels increased, the number of ATM transactions fell 11% compared with Q1 last year, partly driven by the busy Easter period not falling in the first quarter this year. The research found that biometric logins to the mobile banking app continue to grow in popularity, up 41% for Q1 compared to the same three months in 2024. It said that 12 million biometric logins were recorded in total during January, February, and March 2025, whilst logins via the traditional '3 of 6' PIN method fell by 10%. On Thursday, 27 March over 1.5 million digital banking logins were recorded across Bank of Ireland's iOS and Android mobile apps, the busiest day in Q1. Digital logins to the Mobile app increased by 1% for Q1 2025 from Q1 2024, despite Easter coming later this year - the busiest day in Q1 2024 was during Easter holidays on Holy Thursday. "While cash remains popular with many, it's clear that customers are embracing seamless and secure ways to manage their finances, with a shift towards digital-first banking behaviours," said BOI Chief Operating Officer Ciarán Coyle. "The continued growth in digital banking usage highlights the evolving preferences of many of our customers, who are increasingly choosing the speed, convenience, and security of our mobile banking and payment services."
