Wilko Johnson — such a guitar hero, he's getting a train named after him

H ow many rock stars have had trains named after them? An engine bearing the name of Pete Waterman — of Stock, Aitken, Waterman fame and more a producer than a rock star — was unveiled at Crewe station last year. But apart from him the answer is none. Until now.
On Monday morning the Wilko Express will be unveiled by the train operating company c2c in honour of Wilko Johnson, one of the founders of the 1970s band Dr Feelgood. It will run from Southend, where Wilko lived, to Fenchurch Street and pass through places where he spent and misspent his youth and played some of his most memorable gigs, including Westcliff, Leigh-on-Sea and Basildon. The train's commemorative plate, echoing one of his most loved songs, will bear the words: 'Wilko Johnson: 1947-2022. He did it right.' He certainly did.

Peter Andre teases upcoming song from his new album and sings about wanting a 'girl from the island' - months after Jafaican movie scandal

Peter Andre has shared a glimpse of his upcoming song from his new album, in which he sings about wanting a 'girl from the island'. Earlier this year, the singer, 52, faced backlash for his role in the 'profoundly disrespectful' Jafaican movie which sees him sporting dreadlocks and adopting a Jamaican accent. However, Peter brushed aside the controversy as he ploughed on with his music career, giving fans a taste of his new summer tune. In a clip shared to his Instagram on Monday, a shirtless Peter can be seen miming along to the rhythmic song. The video sees the father-of-five in a tropical location, with scenes cutting to different spots as Peter sings different parts of the song. Lyrics for the catchy song include: 'Said I wanna girl, wanna girl, wanna girl from the island. We pull another drink and move till the sun's up', though it's not specified in the clip which island he is referring to. Captioning his post, the Mysterious Girl hitmaker penned: 'If summer was a song, this would be it. Heatwave incoming… new album dropping soon.' Fans were quick to take to the comments to gush about Peter's new tune, with many loving what they heard. While Peter's son Junior, 20, commented: 'Yes dad', adding plenty of fire emojs. Back in May, Peter defended his decision to star in 'profoundly disrespectful' movie Jafaican, as he recalled the racial abuse he experienced as a child growing up in Australia. The singer was born in London to Greek-Cypriot parents before emigrating Down Under aged six. And after receiving backlash over his new Jafaican film trailer, which saw him wear dreadlocks and adopt a Jamaican accent, Peter opened up on what it felt like to be at the centre of racial abuse. Peter said he was once tied to a fence by blue-eyed, blonde-haired schoolkids throwing stones at his head because of his darker skin tone. He told The Sun: 'I remember the bullying and the racism we suffered as kids in Australia and how tough that was. Captioning his post, the Mysterious Girl hitmaker penned: 'If summer was a song, this would be it. Heatwave incoming… new album dropping soon' 'But it gave me a deep understanding of what's truly offensive and what's not. If someone dressed up with a curly wig and a big nose, doing a Greek accent, I'd probably laugh – it depends on the intention. 'But if someone said "I hate you Greeks" or made hateful comments about our skin, that's where the line is. That's racism.' Peter stars as Gary Buckle in the crime-comedy, a con artist pretending to be a Jamaican gangster. Gary, also known as Gazza, must master Jamaican culture in 21 days in order to execute a fraud in London and Jamaica and earn the £35,000 (AUD $72,321) he needs to pay for his grandmother's care. Ahead of the film's release, the trailer showed Peter wearing dreadlocks and putting on a Jamaican accent - something which fans called 'profoundly disrespectful '. The trailer made fans question: 'Did I wake up in 1998?!' The singer was born in London to Greek-Cypriot parents (pictured) before emigrating Down Under aged six The controversial trailer for Jafaican saw the Australian star donning a dreadlock wig before putting on a Jamaican accent, and fans did not react well to the project 'Peter Andre starring as the lead character of a film called JAFAICAN where he's pretending to be a Jamaican and wearing a dreadlock wig is not something I was expecting to see in the year of our Lord 2025 but here we are...' another said. 'There's a movie coming out with Peter Andre in a dreadlock wig pretending to be Jamaican. Is this really what we're doing in 2025?' one more chimed in. 'Why on earth has YouTube just recommended me a trailer for a film starring Peter Andre about a man posing as a fake Jamaican? Did I wake up in 1998?' Responding to the backlash over his new role, Peter insisted the film is about 'storying telling and paying homage, not mockery'. Adding he 'understands some people can genuinely feel offended', he admitted it was never the movie's intention. 'We did our research, we worked with Jamaican talent, and we wanted to tell a story with heart', he added.

Everything we know about Taylor Swift's new album

It's not that Antonoff's work with Swift has been unsuccessful: far from it. Two of the Swift albums he produced (Folklore and Midnights) won the Grammy for Album of the Year, and are considered some of her best. But after The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD), which many fans considered to be laboured, pretentious and dragged-out, it became apparent that Swift's music needed a burst of fresh energy. And Martin, the man who helped to give us eternal bangers such as We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, Blank Space and ...Ready for It? (as well as countless chart-toppers from Britney, Katy Perry and The Weeknd), could be just the ticket. After two albums of weepy ballads and romantic takedowns (on TTPD and Midnights), here's hoping for a record filled with optimistic, cheerful pop anthems. Swift's happy and in love, after all! What are the songs? Take this with a pinch of salt, but a leaked tracklist has emerged (apparently taken from the vinyl's inside sleeve) containing 12 songs. The song titles are as follows: The Fate of Ophelia Elizabeth Taylor Opalite Father Figure Oldest Daughter Ruin the Friendship Actually Romantic Wi$h Li$t Wood Cancelled! Honey The Life of a Showgirl (featuring Sabrina Carpenter) Will there be a tour? Who knows – but probably. Given the mammoth success of the Eras tour – billions in ticket sales, infinite media coverage – which spanned 149 shows around the world, and clocked in at a gruelling three-hour run time, Swift will have a tough time matching its success. She probably won't try to: not in terms of grand scale, anyway. I predict Swift will return to her pre-Eras tour model of performing mostly songs from her most recent album, with a few fan-favourite oldies (aka Love Story and Blank Space) thrown in for good measure. If The Life of a Showgirl is released this year, a world tour presumably won't be on the cards until at least 2027. This would leave Swift free to headline the Super Bowl half-time show – for the first time – in 2026, or America's leading festival, Coachella. Who knows: in 2027, then, she could even finally headline Glastonbury, after the pandemic scuppered what was supposed to be her triumphant debut on Worthy Farm back in 2020.
