The rise of AI-generated music is reshaping the industry, with AI bands amassing millions of streams. As passive listening becomes the norm, human musicians face an uncertain future in a world where creativity is increasingly algorithm-driven. A rising tide of artificial intelligence (AI) bands is ushering in a new era where work will be scarcer for musicians, reported AFP. Whether it's Velvet Sundown's 1970s-style rock or country music projects 'Aventhis' and 'The Devil Inside,' bands whose members are pure AI creations are seeing more than a million plays on streaming giant Spotify. No major streaming service clearly labels tracks that come entirely from AI, except France's Deezer. Meanwhile, the producers of these songs tend to be unreachable. Artistes see the rise of AI music as a sign of how generic and formulaic genres have become. AI highlights the chasm between music people listen to 'passively' while doing other things and 'active' listening in which fans care about what artists convey, said producer and composer Yung Spielburg. At the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) held in Shanghai recently, more than 150 robots were showcased by China in what appears to be the country's largest and most advanced lineup to date. The robots could be seen serving craft beer, playing mahjong, stacking shelves, and boxing, AFP reported. Organizers said the forum involved more than 800 companies, showcasing over 3,000 products, with the most popular exhibits displaying human skills, even badly. At one booth, a robot played drums, half a beat out of time, to Queen's 'We Will Rock You', for instance. Microsoft announced a new experimental mode in its Microsoft Edge browser called Copilot Mode. Switched on (the user has to actively make the choice), 'you enable innovative AI features in Edge that enhance your browser,' said the company in a blog post, explaining the features you may experience: 'It doesn't just wait idly for you to click but anticipates what you might want to do next. It doesn't just give you endless tabs to sift through but works with you as a collaborator that makes sense of it all.'

Flaco Jimenez, accordion king who made Tejano global, dies at 86
Flaco Jimenez, the legendary accordionist from San Antonio whose soulful playing helped take conjunto and Tejano music to audiences around the world, died Thursday at 86. Known as much for his groundbreaking musical collaborations as for his quiet humility, Jimenez passed away peacefully at the home of his son, Arturo, surrounded by loved ones."Dad was in peace when he left. He started saying his goodbyes several days before," Arturo told The Associated Press. "He said he was proud of himself for what he had done and he just leaves memories for the public to enjoy. He said he was ready to go."advertisementWhile a cause of death has not yet been determined, Jimenez was hospitalised in January for a blood clot and was later diagnosed with vascular complications. Born Leonardo Jimenez in 1939, Flaco—Spanish for "skinny" — was the son of conjunto pioneer Santiago Jimenez. Raised in San Antonio, he inherited his father's musical instincts and honed his craft in local dance halls and saloons. His accordion style became a trademark sound of the American the South Texas music style blending Mexican folk and European polka influences, was in Jimenez's blood. According to the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin, the genre emerged over a century ago as Tejanos embraced the accordion traditions of German, Czech, and Polish immigrants. Jimenez, in turn, modernised and globalized the form.'He always wanted to try to incorporate accordion into all sorts of different genres... That was always a fascination of his, and he was able to,' Arturo Jimenez collaborations spanned musical borders—from Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones to Ry Cooder, Dr. John, and Linda Ronstadt. In the 1990s, he gained broader recognition as a founding member of the Texas Tornados, a Tejano supergroup with Doug Sahm, Augie Meyers, and Freddy Fender. Their hit 'Soy de San Luis' won a Grammy in later joined another Grammy-winning ensemble, Los Super Seven, in 1999. Across his career, Jimenez earned five Grammy Awards and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015. Speaking on a podcast hosted by former Russian player Elena Vesnina, Kudermetova revealed receiving a text from the 22-year-old, currently ranked ninth in the world, and how she responded to the Dane's approach. Kudermetova turns down Rune's approach in a witty manner 'Rune recently texted me. I told him, 'Boy, I'm probably too old for you. If you looked at my Instagram, you'd see I have a husband.' Both Rune and Kudermetova, meanwhile, are competing at the National Bank Open which is taking place at Canada's Toronto and Montreal for men and women respectively. Rune has advanced to the Round of 16 after defeating Frenchmen Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 and Alexander Muller 6-2, 6-4 in straight sets. Kudermetova, meanwhile, lost her third-round clash against world No 2 Coco Gauff of USA 6-4, 5-7, 2-6 after victories over Cristina Bucsa and Olga Danilovic. She is also competing in the women's doubles along with Mertens, the pair advancing to the next round after beating the Brazilian-German pair of Beatriz Haddad Maia and Laura Siegemund 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.
