Can Texas retain and train more teachers?
During the 2023-24 school year, more than half of new Texas teachers were uncertified. In this week's episode of the TribCast, Matthew and Eleanor ask what's going on there. Why are teachers leaving the field? Why is it so hard to find new ones through the traditional route? And what is the impact on students? Their guest is Ryan Franklin, a former Texas teacher and state education official who is now managing director of Philanthropy Advocates.

Boy killed in parade accident remembered at 2 Friday vigils: ‘He was a light'
NORTH CANTON, Ohio (WJW) – Hundreds of grieving neighbors, family members and friends gathered to remember 13-year-old Matthew Schultz at two vigils Friday night. The first event was a private rosary service held at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Green because Matthew was an altar server and loved his faith. 'That's the one thing that keeps us smiling through our tears, that Matthew lives forever. When God gives a gift, he gives it forever,' said Fr. David Durkee, becoming choked up. The second memorial and night of remembrance started later around 8 p.m. at Witwer Park in North Canton next to North Canton Middle School. I-TEAM: New development in unsolved Cleveland Metroparks double murder Hundreds came out in force and in costume. Some wore blue clothing, which was his favorite color. Others dressed up like characters from Star Wars, but they all carried lights. 'Light because he was a light,' said organizer Rachel Hoffman Murray. 'We've got the glow sticks and light sabers, flashlights and a chance to kind of shine in that darkness.' Matthew's death on Memorial Day has devastated the area after the teen fell from a trailer during the parade. Also in attendance at the vigil were members of the Ohio Garrison 501st Legion Star Wars Cosplayers who were at the parade that day. They said he was always full of joy, curiosity and laughter. 'Matthew was a huge Star Wars fan. Some of our members even got a chance to speak with him before the incident and he was very excited to see us,' said David Hise, Ohio Garrison 501st Commander. Graduating East Cleveland students fulfill a special pact from middle school The vigil was designed to help everyone honor Matthew's life and cope with the tragic loss. 'To recognize Matthew, recognize his family and just, you know, honor the time that we had with him,' said Hoffman-Murray. The community is also allying behind the family in other ways too, from upcoming restaurant fundraisers to selling specially designed t-shirts. 'My daughter knew Matthew. We couldn't believe it and we just wanted to do something to help,' said Ashley Humphrey. They said they want to be a force of heartfelt solidarity and tangible support for Matthew's family during this difficult time. 'I think that's part of the healing process, everyone coming together supporting one another,' said Hise. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. It Looks Like Taylor Swift Won't Be Releasing "Reputation (Taylor's Version)" — Here's Why
It's a great day for Taylor Swift fans — kinda? The Grammy-winning singer posted on Instagram today that — surprise! — she now owns all of her music again. If you recall, there was a whole to-do about Scooter Braun supposedly buying her masters, which meant that, essentially, Taylor's music didn't belong to her. That caused Taylor to re-record several of her albums, calling them "(Taylor's Version)." But now, it appears that it won't be necessary for Taylor to re-record any more of her discography. View this photo on Instagram "You belong with me," Taylor wrote in the caption of her Instagram post, which includes photos of her with all of her old albums spread out around her. She also dropped a letter on her website explaining what this all means, and that's the part that has fans conflicted. Related: Sophie Turner Opened Up About Her "Incredibly Sad" Split From Joe Jonas "All of the music I've ever made... now belongs... to me," she wrote. "And all my music videos. All the concert films. The album art and photography. The unreleased songs ... To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it." You can read the full letter on her website. Taylor then goes on to talk about the project that her fans have been eagerly awaiting for many months now: Reputation (Taylor's Version), or Rep TV for short. "I know. I know. What about Rep TV?" she wrote. "Full transparency: I haven't even re-recorded a quarter of it. The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life, and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it." Related: 28 Celebs Who Never Seem To Get Canceled Despite Some Pretty Awful Behavior This news shocked fans, many of whom have assumed that Rep TV was already recorded, and have been trying to guess for a while now when it will be released. While fans are thrilled that Taylor owns her music again, there's definitely an undercurrent of slight disappointment that the sleeper-favorite album won't get a re-release. Taylor did note in her letter that she has finished re-recording her debut self-titled album, which she hinted that she might release sometime in the near future. And concerning Rep TV, she also mentioned that, "There will be a time (if you're into the idea) for the vault tracks from that album to hatch." She even suggested that she may revisit her re-recording of Reputation and release it, so there's still hope. In any case, if you're a Swiftie, congratulations — you can now listen to those original albums on Spotify guilt-free, knowing that they're back in Tay-Tay's posession.
