Filippo Inzaghi appointed Palermo head coach, four days after Pisa exit

New York Times17-06-2025
Filippo Inzaghi has been appointed head coach of Serie B side Palermo, four days after leaving newly-promoted Pisa.
The iconic former striker guided Pisa back to Serie A for the first time in 34 years last season but left to take on the role at Palermo, who recorded an eighth-place finish in Serie B, the second tier of Italian football.

Palermo will be the ninth managerial role for Inzaghi — the older brother of Simone, who joined Al Hilal from Inter Milan this summer — with AC Milan, Venezia and Bologna among his former clubs.
Pisa's promotion was the second time Inzaghi has led a side back to the Serie A after his Benevento side went up as champions of Serie B in 2019-20.

The 51-year-old, who has never spent more than two seasons as head coach at the same club, has been tasked with returning Palermo to Italian football's top flight for the first time since 2017.
Inzaghi scored over 300 goals across his playing career, which was synonymous with Juventus and Milan where he won two Champions League titles.
There have been widespread coaching changes in Serie A this summer, with Christian Chivu leaving Parma to become Inter's head coach, while Maurizio Sarri has returned to Lazio to replace Marco Baroni, who has in turn joined Torino.
Gian Piero Gasperini joined Roma after ending his nine-year stint at Atalanta, who in turn appointed Ivan Juric, while Raffaele Palladino has left Fiorentina.
